We have been a Prince William County resident for over 40 years and my wife and I would love to thank everyone who worked on Saturday May 16, 2026 at the Prince William County Landfill & Compost Facility for an outstanding job with service and hard work. From the time we pulled into the parking lot there was someone to guide us with not only information but with a great attitude and taking the time to tell us where to go with a friendly attitude. We pulled up to the TV recycle center and again someone to guide us with a friendly attitude. We experienced fast and efficient service with the offloading of the very large 75" LCD TV. Thanking us and telling us to have a wonderful day. The place was the cleanest center we have ever seen. Please recognize these very dedicated employees for a job well done! I was a Store Manager for a fortune 50 company with over 300 employees. I wish we could have hired employees like yours. New ID rules and regulations are absurd and makes life really difficult for some residents of the county. Not all tax paying members of the county can utilize the dump they pay for unless your name & address is on certain "acceptable documentation." Unfortunately, the acceptable documentation is not always available for residents of PWC. If you call or email your concerns, you will get an admin person on the phone. If you want to share your concerns with upper management, good luck because they don't take calls from us. Cops are there quite a bit now because PWC residents are upset with these terrible new rules and regulations. Nothing really can be done unless our county leadership steps in. Hopefully people don't start dumping their trash on our beautiful roadsides and it ends up in the dump anyways... So according to new policy manual or visual checks are no longer allowed. Yet, landfill staff absolutely refuse to scan a drivers license with a PO Box or other address on it. Why? And they don't accept a drivers license with a PWC personal or property tax bill. Both refusals are in violation of their own policy. They also do not offer fools they erroneously believe live outside of the county the opportunity to pay the nominal $5 fee - instead they "escort" them off the premises. read more

I have been coming to this facility for as long as I can remember and have never had an experience as upsetting as I did on July 5th at 10:00 AM. I was denied entry and told I had "too much trash," even though there were multiple U-Haul trucks and other vehicles ahead of me clearly carrying significantly more than I had--yet they were all allowed in without question. When I politely asked for clarification about the rules and why I was being singled out, the staff member at the entrance became immediately defensive, dismissive, and hostile. Instead of providing an explanation, she threatened to call the police on me--simply because I was trying to understand the inconsistency. That level of aggression and lack of professionalism is completely unacceptable. I'm a long-time supporter of this site, but this experience has shaken my trust and respect for the way it's being managed. No one deserves to be intimidated or treated with disrespect for asking fair questions. I will be filing a formal claim, and I truly hope management takes this seriously and reevaluates how some of their employees interact with the public. Unless this is addressed appropriately, I will not be returning--and I will be advising others in the community to do the same. read more

Your trash is their treasure!!!! Located directly off Route 234 and a free service if you will for all PWC residents. You can bring household trash, metals and electronics that you need to dispose of. They also have a Donations Center where you can donate gently used items such as furniture that needs a new home. The trash dumpsters are lowered, lined up and labeled so you can easily back your vehicle into the space and empty our trash. When you back up, you are literally at the top of the dumpsters for easy dumping. One stop drop and dump. They eve have staff on had to direct the traffic and even give you a hand if needed. Make sure you have your id handy when you enter as the clerk at the booth tends to check them to ensure you are a PWC resident. If for some reason you need to get rid of a few things and you are in between trash pick ups or it is something that the trash company wont take, you can definitely bring it here! read more

I'd like to echo everyone else's great experience! I've had the same. I've dropped off old paint, ancient door stops (aka giant desk top computers), brush, broken shredders, trash, batteries, old oil, and gently used items for the re-use center - which is an enclosed area to protect the items from the weather so anyone in need can pick up anything they find!). This last visit was no different. I needed to drop off the now untouchable glass (purple bins only). There's a recycle bin near my house where I normally take my recyclables, but you aren't supposed to put glass in them and the one closest to my house fills up quickly on the weekends. I decided to take my cardboard with me to the landfill. As I was pulling piles of cardboard out to put in the big bin, the woman working the piece of equipment at the end came over and helped me empty all the cardboard out of my car. This isn't her job to help people empty their cars. It was very nice of her to do so. Everyone I've dealt with there has always been very kind and helpful. Obviously I have not met Ed. read more

The Prince William County Landfill is located off of Route 234 - about 10 miles or so from Manassas. It has a Manassas address - but it's not in Manassas proper. I had some paints, stains, lamp fuel, and electronics that I needed to dispose of. We were cleaning out my Mom's condo after she passed away. You shouldn't throw these items in with the regular trash. Every Wednesday and Saturday - this location accepts toxic/hazardous wastes and electronics. I followed the signs for hazardous and electronic waste. Pulled up to the first station - electronics, Signed my name and zip code (only residents of Prince William County can drop off their stuff here) and unloaded my electronics with the two gentleman working that station. Then pulled forward to the next station to unload my hazardous materials. Really well done! No fuss, no muss! read more

The landfill is one of the best operations out of the whole county, & IMHO it's the best use of tax payers money. The only complaint I have is they don't enforce your load must be covered law, & they just let people come in without even a warning about not covering your load. I do recall at one time Prince William County police use to enforce this law; As they were waiting for you at the entrance to the landfill to issue a warning or a ticket for not doing so. I live off route 619 close to Independent Hill, & the amount of trash being lost out of vehicles on there way to the landfill is ridiculous, & a eyesore. Again the landfill is one of the best operations in the county; Fives across the board, & a one for not enforcing your load must be covered law. read more

The best managed landfill I have ever used. You don't get enough credit. Great hours and efficient flow and staff are very helpful.

Using the Prince William County Landfill was a perfectly fine experience prior to the pandemic. Post pandemic, they changed the hours and are no longer open on Sundays. This has made Saturdays at the landfill a complete mad house. The car lines into the landfill are awful, with cars backing up at the traffic light blocking route 234 and it is a serious traffic hazard. When the weekend is the only time many people can visit the landfill, reducing that to Saturday only has had a seriously negative effect. read more

This place is great and is free for all prince william county residents! I have gone here countless times to dump trash or old appliances or brush or whatever! The only thing they ask is that you cover your truck bed when going there, so trash doesn't fly out. Its super easy to unload if you have a truck. The unloading area is raised up above the dumpsters, so all you have to do is back up to the dumpster of your choice, lower your truck gate, and push everything off the edge into the dumpster! Its a big plus living in prince william county! read more

To work with other people's trash the staff is AWESOME. Yes you got to have a valid county drivers/ID, Each county has their own or something like it. 5.5.5.5.5.5.5 across the board. I have always been greatful to have the PW County landfill. I have seen it grow and improve since the 1970s. It is easy to use with great facilities; however, I had a bad experience in customer service today at the landfill office. I own two properities in PW and another out of state, where I live. I rarely use the landfill but from time to time I do need to drop off material. As I don't have a VA tag or VA drivers license I have to take some record to indicate I own property in the county. Seems each time I go, may once every 2 years, the process changes and the landfill changes. So today, I had to go visit the landfill office because I did not have an adequate record with me. Upon entering the office, I was greeted by a guy wear a shirt with the name Ed on it. Immediately, he has rather rude and smart ass. I had hazardous waste but did not know they only take it on Weds and Saturdays. No big deal, but he was very smart ass about telling me it and telling me where the drop off was at. Apparently, Ed does deal much with the public who pays his salary. I still think the landfill is great as long as you don't have to deal with the office or Ed. read more
