In walks Dr Burk , he asked me what was going on and I proceeded to tell him about the migraine and high blood pressure that I was and is still now experiencing.. I have a history of pseudo tumor cerebri , it causes spinal headaches and migraines .. anyway , all Dr Burk could tell me in the rudest way is how many times that I had been there last month . And that is not what the er is for .. I already battle depression about my health and he just made everything worse by telling me that and so rudely ... Brookwood My…read moreexperience with Brookwood Hospital ER was incredibly disappointing and concerning. My disabled dad was a patient there, and the way they handled his discharge was nothing short of negligent. Firstly, they allowed my disabled dad to discharge himself without notifying me, his son, despite my contact information being on the forms. He nearly fell while waiting to be seen by the staff, and the only positive aspect of the visit was the morning staff and one nurse who proactively got him a wheelchair. When I left to take my friend, who helped me carry my dad to the ER, I assumed they would notify me of any issues or information. However, when I returned, they initially thought he was still in his room, but he was not. They called a nurse to see where he had gone, and they informed me that he had walked on his own to the lobby. I expressed my shock and concern, as my dad cannot drive and uses two canes to walk without any injuries. Despite my distress, the staff was shockingly apathetic and unhelpful. They did not offer to call for a search, page him through the hospital, or show any urgency. Desperate to find my dad, I went to the lobby and called out his name, fearing he had fallen and was unable to call for help. It was only after I screamed to the nurses that they finally called security and the police. But instead of assisting me in locating my elderly, potentially injured, and early-onset dementia-suffering father, they focused on me. The only person who was truly helpful was security guard Jim, who initiated a search for my dad. It was only then that a woman from another part of the hospital found him and brought him to the lobby. When the police arrived, their attitude was far from supportive. Instead of trying to de-escalate the situation, they goaded me and seemed more interested in provoking a response from me, with one officer even threatening to put handcuffs on me. The entire experience at Brookwood Hospital ER was marked by a complete lack of communication, empathy, and responsibility for the well-being of patients and their families. It was a deeply unsettling and unprofessional encounter that left me with serious concerns about their patient care and safety protocols. To make matters worse, it was later alleged that my dad had three cracked ribs. However, we decided to seek a second opinion and headed to another hospital for a proper diagnosis, given the inadequate care and communication we experienced at Brookwood Hospital ER. The entire ordeal left us deeply dissatisfied and concerned about the quality of care and professionalism at this facility. UPDATE: I forgot to mention that my father and I share the same name. I signed him in and never gave permission to have him released. So when they say he signed himself out. He was improperly dismissed.

The Kirklin Clinic (5/5) has always pulled through for me. They are the main reason I moved back to…read moreBham in the first place since my physician was here. The quality of care I have received has been more consistent than it has not. There have been one or two individuals I haven't cared for, but I took the proper channels to address them. Parking is a pain like any other medical facility so be sure to account for that when deciding your arrival time. Be aware of EVERYONE walking in the garage. Someone will pop around a vehicle in a blind spot quickly. They have coffee that you can purchase at the cart or Starbucks if you just really need it. Sneaky Pete's and Wall Street Deli are easily accessible if you don't bring your own food, snacks, drinks and of course there are other options you can walk or drive to if able (sending someone else is ideal if you're here for treatments instead of a regular appt). Bathrooms are clean/checked often, facility is clean, most staff is pleasant/helpful. I find it easy to navigate by following the signage. Add some additional time for elevator wait times in case they are busier than normal. This is a high traffic building in general. My main complaint (0/5) is with the changes in the 5th floor infusion clinic (I can't speak for other areas). The individual that took them over at the end of last year has made several changes. One of the main ones I find an issue with is claiming there is no budget for snacks or drinks for the patients anymore. It used to be customary to offer a snack and drinks upon receiving your treatments to help with nausea, mask the horrible taste you have while receiving treatments, provide something for your time there, etc. I bring my own anyway, but there are several individuals who simply forget, don't focus on it because or pain or discomfort, or cannot afford to do so. There were 6 complaints I heard in the pod I was in for my most recent treatments over this change. I loveeeee the nurses here and even they aren't pleased delivering the news each time. UAB makes entirely too much money to claim $.05 cheez its, peanut butter crackers, chips, etc are out of budget. They offered that and more plus ginger-ale, juice, other sodas or water for years! The little things tell you if a facility cares about/values you as a patient. If you think people don't notice - they do. Even from something the higher ups feel is so small.
