This is the studio you need to try asap. The owner, Angela has fantastic energy and enthusiasm…read more I've sampled all the studios locally and while I can't say anything bad about any of the others, this has become my favorite spot in town and elsewhere. Angela has spent time in India and her practice shows it. She uses both the Sanskrit and English names for the poses which I've grown to enjoy. She has awesome musical choices too which I put a high value on. I've also taken classes with Sal, who has a different style than Angela for sure. I've never left his class without laughing. He has a way of not letting you take yoga too seriously. He also has a love of 80's music which I couldn't take from anyone else, but it's great paired with him. I've taken Jess's Yin class too which is super for a relaxed vibe. I encourage everyone to give PYS a shot and perhaps expand your practice in a way that you might not expect.

As serious practitioners and life long yogis we wanted a training and a community that understood the deeper values inherent in the yoga practice while maintaining a down-to-earth and approachable attitude. Angela embodies that perfectly. She has also attracted a community that embraces the authenticity and knowledge promoting a safe space of deep growth. Her fellow teachers are of the highest echelon while maintaining a humility and inclusivity that are paramount in developing deeper growth with the students. The ease and proficiency with which Angela and her fellows executed this online training was remarkable. I highly recommend any training or perhaps the online yoga classes with Prana Yoga Shala. It will be your new home no matter where in the world you are.

Gemma's vinyasa classes are hard, including her "gentle vinyasa" class. You will sweat buckets, and that's no exaggeration. Maybe there are a handful of people who don't break a sweat in her extremely popular classes, but I'm not one of them. Some things to keep in mind: 1. Show up 5-10 minutes early to get your spot, it will fill up. 2. The class might start a few minutes late, end 10-20 minutes later than scheduled--important if you're feeding a meter. 3. Check your ego & anxiety at the door. There will be people more fit than you, at 1/3 or 2x your age--we are each going for the same reasons: mental & physical health. Do your modifications, take a breather, it's all cool, no judgement. If someone does judge you, it's their problem, not yours, so who cares? 4. Take your time. I'm no weakling & have taken well over a thousand yoga classes during the past 3 years, in addition to my other fitness routines, and these classes are still hard. 5. Drink plenty of water 6. Enjoy the happy glow that can last at least another full day Bonus: my husband is happy that I'm enjoying yoga again, instead of feeling grumpy due to issues at another studio. There's no sink, so bring a spray bottle & wash cloth to mop up yourself afterwards. Single classes are $12, a 20 pass is $200, unlimited is $95; prices cheaper if you're a student. Entrance on Tulane.

Check out the website and you can find out the latest gatherings. The only time I have come here was for the Gong Bath with Marco Dolce. A friend of a friend highly recommended Marco and his Gong Bath. I have never tried anything like this before but for a $25 fee I figured it was worth the shot. I had been feeling very stressed out with work and life so I was hoping this would help calm my anxious nerves. I contacted Michelle (the owner - super friendly and kind) and reserved my spot. I was told to bring a warm blanket and pillow and to wear socks. When I arrived I set up my space alongside the other participants. Some women brought huge quilts and numerous pillows, they were obviously no Gong Bath rookies and looking for a calming night. After the class was set up Marco explained that he would be playing the Gong and other instruments for about an hour. We were instructed to lay on our backs facing the back of the room in order to gain the most benefits. He played the instruments and I was waiting to be taken into a deeply meditative state... unfortunately that never happened for me. I noticed most participants were sleeping but I don't think sleeping equals meditating. I honestly do not think I would do this again. I do not believe there is a huge difference from listening to a gong live or on a cd. For me, it had the same effect. Even though I did not really gain anything out of my Gong Bath I would be willing to try other group meditations and drum circles with Michelle.

I got a groupon (or maybe living social) deal and hauled my butt out to Bensalem for this. Don't be scared by the strip-mall store front - the inside space is very nice. And did I mention how kind and gentle the women is who does the treatments? I got oiled up by what seemed like a gallon of oils, then massaged and 'whumped' a little bit with an herb-filled bag. I use the word 'whumped' because its hard to describe the sensation of being gently beaten with what looks like a giant tea bag! - look at the website to see what I mean. The whole thing finishing off with a relax in your own private steam bath in the room. Then you get tea and snacks. It was worth what I paid for it ($99) but might be a bit overpriced at the 'original' price, which I think was closer to $199. In any case worth a trip - I did feel pretty blissful the next couple of days and my skin was positiively glowing.

I researched the local places and it seemed like Anew had the best prices. A lot of the other yoga places have 1 free unlimited month but they require you to then purchase a certain amount of months of membership. How that's considered a free 1 month trial is beyond me! Fortunately, Anew is not like that! I was able to get 1 month of unlimited yoga for an extremely affordable price with no strings attached. I was especially excited about trying the yoga at Anew because they had SUCH an extensive variety of classes. I could do a Honey Flow class with my mom who is more on the beginner side of things, I got do a heated flow asana when I really wanted to get in a sweaty workout, and I even got to try aerial yoga for the first time. Every class I took was accommodating and welcoming. Each instructor gave options to turn up the poses into more difficult ones or ways to turn them down if it wasn't working in your body. I was extraordinarily impressed with the kindness of not only each and every instructor, but also the warmth that radiated from fellow yogis taking the classes. If you're looking for a variety, friendly people, good prices, and a welcoming environment, then Anew is the perfect place for you!
