Lake Mercer in Mercer County Park

It's a beautiful park, but they really need to work on blazing their trails better. It's very easily to get off the proper trail which can be disconcerting especially when you are alone. .

Pretty huge and clean park, tons of space and things to do there and explore, along with numerous trails. We went during covid19, the first day the state opened up parks again and everyone had to practice social distancing, which is cool with me, lol. There was a lot of park car traffic due to it being the first day people were allowed back there, but the park police did a great job directing and controlling traffic. Me and my woman wanted to have a picnic because the weather was so nice and this was the best park to have it at on such a beautiful day.

This is a nice expansive, spacious park that provides for multiple activities including waking/hiking (dogs permitted), biking, baseball, softball, etc. where the park lacks is with signage identifying where to go within the facility for various activities. You have to just drive around and explore.

Our team makes the trip to Mercer County Park in mid-September for the annual GWN Dragon Boat Festival. Teams from all over the northeast and as far as Chicago and Indianapolis come to compete. 200m, 500m & 2000m length races go on for the whole day. The lake is normally used for all manner of boating sports and even saw a bass fishing boat early in the morning. There's no swimming, of course. The race course is set up for racing sculls launched from the boathouse on the north side of the lake, where Princeton University keeps their boats. The dragon boat festival is usually set up on the south shore, near the official U.S. Olympic Training Site finishing tower. Many vendors (food and goods) show up for the festival as well as other sponsors. The park itself is one of the cleanest and very well maintained. Other facilities include an indoor/outdoor tennis center, baseball/softball diamonds, basketball courts and soccer fields. There is even a skating center for the winter months. If I lived in this area, I would be here all the time!

    Great walking and jogging paths.

I love this park!! It's a beautiful, picturesque Park with many activities and festivities going on all year round. On any given visit you are sure to find... - Walkers, bikers, and runners on the Paved Trails; - Hikers on the dirt trails (moderately flat) through the Wooded Areas of the park; - People peddling around Lake Mercer by renting a Peddle boat; - Kids running around the Playground; - Dogs of all sizes playing and barking in the Dog Park; - Sports teams playing softball or baseball in the many fields; - Tennis players out on the courts; - Dragon boat teams competing in various events; - Kayakers and canoers stroking away; - A wedding or other special event taking place in the Boat House; - Families barbecuing at one of the two Picnic Areas (East and West); - Ice skaters spinning around the indoor ice skating rink; - A Plethora of Festivals and Fairs (too numerous and diverse to list!) Mercer County Park is awesome! Did I tell you I love this park?!?

Great spot for a run in the fall. If I lived closer, I'd be there all of the time for a run or to relax.

Wear light, waterproof hikers if you venture into the Rogers Refuge after a rain. The woods are filled with numerous varieties of trees and shrubs that provide a haven for a wide variety of birds, so bring your field guide! The trails are popular, but you'll encounter fewer humans the closer you get to the Delaware Canal. Parking is also limited, but you can park at the Rogers Refuge entrance, rather than the Battlefield Park lot. That said, here are a couple of notes: Beware of poison ivy if you step off of the actual trail, as it is everywhere. Also, during Autumn and early Winter, be sure to prep your shoes/pants for ticks, as they may be found in the leaf litter that blankets the trails. This is a good idea anytime and anywhere you hike. It's not a huge area, but the trail markings may as well be nonexistent. If you're unfamiliar with the trails, bring a map of the refuge and the institute grounds. They're both easily found and/or printed here: https://rogersrefuge.org/guides/

If you're lucky, you'll see frogs and deer! If you're not, it's still fun to id trees and any mushrooms you stumble upon. There's a fun swinging bridge by the river's edge trail. I recommend: old sneakers or hiking shoes (for the mud), bug spray (mosquitoes), and a map (you can find one online or just use your phone). Note: I have never found a tick on me and I visit at least once a week, weather permitting! But you should still check for them.

Intro to Rock Climbing with Valley to Summit on September 18, 2022…read more This was my second trip to Chickies Rock with VTS and it was wonderful! There were only 5 of us, so plenty of time to climb. Our Guide, Bob, was so patient, engaged and informative. I learned a lot of great things that I had not known before about clothing, ropes and technique. Bob was so patient with me and was there with his " green pointer" to help me over the tough spots. You should know that I am 74 years old and tho I have climbed indoors for a few years, my stamina was not that of the youngsters who were there! Nonetheless, it was a great time! I highly recommend Valley to Summit, this being my 3 rd trip with them. They Rock!

He asked a few questions, then determined that it should be OK for me to go on the hike. Shortly before the hike we received an email from Dave saying that because of the warm weather the trip would not have as much ice as it normally does. He offered to reschedule or refund our money if we wanted, but also said we could go if we wanted. We wanted. When I got there Dave and the guides were fantastic. Very personable. They were helpful but without being intrusive. One of them carried one of my forearm canes in his backpack in case I needed it. (This was to have one hand free for the ice axe.) The hike was great. At the end of the hike I asked one of the guides if he thought I could do the repelling they offer... he conferred with the owner and the lead repeller guide, and they agreed that I would be allowed to do that in the Spring. I highly recommend Valley to Summit for a great time. I look forward to a full day ice hike in February.
