The Westbank Beacon

The Westbank Beacon

(2 reviews)

The Westbank Beacon is a monthly newspaper focusing on all things Westbank…read more For years I had seen the Beacon on display at many different Gretna businesses. I would pass it up in favor of the Gambit so I never really knew what it was about. More recently an acquaintance of mine was contacted about writing articles for the paper and I was intrigued. I headed to Da Wabbit and picked up a copy. Being the fan of local politics that I am, I was pleasantly surprised to see many of the Westbank politicians had written articles. The articles didn't necessarily focus on political issues which made them even better. It was nice to read the viewpoint of the authors when they weren't actually running for office. It seems that the Beacon is trying to attract a wider audience with their more recent issues. The most recent issue had a great article on saving money by shopping sales and specialty stores in addition to a restaurant review from New Orleans. if you happen to be on the Westbank and see a copy, I encourage you pick one up. My only complaint is that the Beacon's website does not appear to get updated. I like holding an actual paper as much as the next guy, but I also enjoy reading articles on the web. Note: It does appear that you can subscribe for free if you rarely get to the WB.
