I chose A&A because they have a reputation of working with self-publishers who aren't professional formatters or pre-press experts. They always answer the phone, are very responsive, and you can even drive there and meet in person if necessary. My manuscript was complex--lots of photos, footnotes, and Chinese characters. A test run years earlier with another printer had shown photos printing darker than in my PDF, so I adjusted them before sending to A&A. The first galley proof still had some underexposed photos (and a couple of new ones), but A&A let me replace those pages at a reasonable fee. They incorporated the changes and sent printed replacement pages that looked great. They don't offer book design or editing services, but they were very accommodating with last-minute text changes I caught (some requiring individual page replacements). The final result is a product I feel confident offering for sale. There are very few small printers left who truly care about quality. Most are no better than Amazon's print-on-demand, which wasn't acceptable to me. Jess in pre-press and the A&A crew really take pride in their work, and the end product shows it. For anyone seeking a quality self-published book, I strongly recommend A&A in Tampa.
