Owner didn't even try to hear our problem. We mentioned our AC and he shut us down, said freon was too expensive, and he didn't work on ACs. Maybe take that off of the list of "services offered". Didn't even answer phone or call back. Wasn't open for his listed ours. read more

I have been going to Prior Service for decades, I remember when the owner Bill was a kid working in the same building, then Richard's Service. I would go in for an oil change and Bill would go over my vehicle like it was his own first car. He would check everything. Make recomendations, tell me what needed attention right away and what I should keep an eye on. Never tried to upsell me, always knew what the best replacment part was and would tell me why. The service is fantastic, always reasonable and if there is something that he doesn't do, he will recommend the place to take it and get it done right. I just saw a 1 star review from someone who is mad because he doesn't do a specific service. Thats like complaining about an Italian Resturant cause they don't make Big Mac's. I can highly recomend Prior Service here because I highly recomend him to all my friends and family. I will also say this. If you own a Jeep and you don't know Bill, your not a real Jeeper! I litteraly bought my first Jeep because of Bill and never looked back! read more

I have to say that I am shocked that Prior Service doesn't yet appear in Yelp. Well, here I am to tell everyone that if you are looking for a good, honest, friendly and knowledgable mechanic, then you need to go and see Bill at Prior. When I moved into my new apartment on Charles St., I happened to notice that the shop was across the road and though to myself, "hmmm... I wonder if those guys are good." My co-worker at the time, who also lives in the neighborhood, was telling me if I needed a great mechanic, to take my car to Prior. I've been living here for about 6 months I've had no problems with my car... up until last Friday when I was in my car getting ready to leave for work and it wouldn't start. It took a few times, but it finally turned over and off I went. Long story short, I ended up breaking down at the intersection of the Rt. 146 Lincoln Mall Exit and Rt. 116. When I called Roadside Assistance, I told them I wanted my car towed to Prior. I figured, why not give him a shot because it's also convenient. I called and spoke with Bill, explained my situation and he said it was no problem to have my car towed there. We, and by we I mean me, the tow truck driver and my car, showed up at Prior about 45 minutes later. Bill came out to greet me and introduced himself. He popped the hood of my car while I was there to take a quick peek and told me he'd call me when it was all set which would be ASAP. Bill called a few hours later and told me what was wrong (really bad battery!) and explained things he looked at and fixed, etc. and also how much I owed, which was extremely reasonable. When I walked over to pick my car up, he showed and explained to me everything he did and what I should consider fixing. Never once did I feel like I was being scammed or abused because I'm a woman and I was new at his shop. He treated me fairly and respectfully and I, of course, made it a point to thank him for taking the time to explain everything to me. I now have a new favorite mechanic! read more

I love my '99 Cherokee. But I don't love the thought of getting ripped off when I need work done. Bill is the answer to all my Jeep issues - the kind of mechanic you hear about but almost never encounter. Honest, fair, capable, fast. It's like he's from a bygone era, and in some ways he is (he worked for the previous owner and eventually bought the place for himself). He just did a job for me that would have been twice as much if I'd taken the problem to a dealer. Fixed it in a few hours despite being busy, showed me the broken part and explained why it failed. The engine in my 2002 Wrangler (my pride and joy) gave out last month and was completely dead. I had AAA tow it to Prior Auto Service to see what they could do. Bill replaced the engine along with replacing the clutch and installing new brakes. After about a week, I picked her up and she runs like a brand new Jeep. Since then, I've been using her around school and 2 two hour trips to Connecticut and back - no problems. Bill is super accommodating, helpful, and knows what he's doing for a great price. If you're looking for honest and good mechanics, then this is the place you should go. I was told by mechanics at a corporate chain that I needed my calipers replaced in the front and back of my Outback without even looking at my car (I went to get an oil change which they didn't even do...). They were ready to give me a price and everything. Well, they were wrong. This place actually took the time to check everything and found that I just needed new brakes. They gave me a list of other things that I should get fixed but did not pressure me to get it done. In fact, they told me the things on the list that could wait and what was worth doing. Not to mention the price was great as well. I totally trust these guys and would go there for all my car needs. Best mechanics I've ever been to in New England. read more

I had read several reviews online regarding the expertise and customer service of Prior Service in Providence, RI. I had been looking for a good, independent mechanic for my '04 Jeep Wrangler as I was tired of getting screwed by the service departments of the big dealerships. Some mechanics I contacted either waited a week or so to call me back, or never called at all. Bill, the owner and chief mechanic at Prior Service, not only called me promptly, but he was extremely courteous, respectful, and professional. I made an appointment to have him fix my driver's side door lock and to install two new Quadratec side steps. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the service I received. The job was done right and quickly so I got my much-needed vehicle back for use. And I was amazed at how reasonable the price was. I highly recommend Prior Service, especially for Jeep Wrangler owners. Bill knows Jeeps like no one else. They are clearly his passion and it shows in his excellent work. HUGE thumbs up! read more
