Terrible insurance company that does not care about the individual. I have had Priority Health for over 25 years. For the past 10 year I have been paying as an individual for a policy with a $7400 deductible and almost nothing covered. Today was the final straw. I had scheduled a surgery with an in network provider and find out what my costs would be since it will all be going to deductible. I was informed that while the physician is in network, the places he performs the surgery are not, and therefore there will be no writeoffs for the cost. While I believe this should be illegal apparently the government and insurance companies work together. I have canceled my surgery and want to warn others about this pathetic situation. read more

Hope you never have to call them about anything as it takes forever to get to a person and all that person does is collect your info then say "You reached the wrong team and I will transfer you" after about 4-5 people they often just hang up on you. When you sign up it lists all this great coverage then they spin tails left and right as to why I have to pay an extra $4000 a month for my prescription. I've had a terrible experience with Priority Health regarding ambulance coverage. I was recently charged $2,584.11 for a two-minute ambulance ride from Cornwell Urgent Care to U of M Emergency. I explicitly stated that I could transport the patient myself, but they refused, and now I'm being told that ambulance rides aren't covered under "No Surprises" billing protections. Repeatedly deny medically necessary claim, despite multiple doctors indicating the treatment is the treatment of choice. My mother continues to suffer, for years, after years of appeals by specialists trying to make treatment possible. November 29, 2025 To Whom It May Concern- Since August 2021 our family, most notably my mother, have been dealing with a nightmare in the realm of medical care. The Timeline: My mother began experiencing dizziness and vertigo type symptoms several weeks prior to the August 2021 noted start date. After a runaround seeing different doctors, symptoms were narrowed down to being neurologic rather than inner ear, etc. My mother began seeing a neuro-ophthalmologist (Santos) Oct 5th, 2021. She had an appointment with an audiologist for testing who confirmed that the symptoms were neurologic, namely cerebellar, in origin. Several diagnostic tests were performed, and my mother was found to have very high GAD65 autoantibodies. The origin of these was unknown, and a PET scan was recommended in case this was paraneoplastic. This was denied by insurance, so a contrast CT was performed to look for any tumors that would suggest a cause. No tumors were found. Assuming an autoimmune issue and trying to address symptomatically, corticosteroids, mycophenolate, and plasmapheresis were started. This did lead to some temporary improvement by January 2022. March of 2022 the side effects of the corticosteroids were excessive and the medication had to be tapered and discontinued. New signs of leg cramping were noted. With the decrease in the prednisone, side effects of the mycophenolate increased and this also had to be weaned. By June of 2022, the severe vertigo and frequent vomiting had returned. My mother was referred to the Mayo Clinic, who did not take her insurance, so then was sent to Cleveland Clinic. In November of 2022 she saw Dr Amy Kunchock, an expert in GAD65 diseases and Stiff Person Syndrome. Additional testing including MRI and lumbar puncture were requested, and the condition was confirmed in a virtual appointment Jan 6th 2023 with the Cleveland Clinic. Treatment with IVIG was recommended at this time. We attempted to get this treatment approved, only to be denied. From March 2023 through October 2023 multiple appeals, a review by Maximus (work for Medicare to review denials), a request for hearing with an attorney adjudicator, and subsequent upheld denial by DHHS Judge James Satterwhite transpired. October 17, 2023 Dr Santos sent an additional plea to Priority Health requesting further consideration for IVIG. At that time, it was suggested the cause of denial was that the diagnosis was listed as a GAD antibody disorder, and not specifically Stiff Persons Syndrome. My mother's presentation was also different from the typical SPS patient as her signs began with neurologic symptoms. The request fell on deaf ears. In January of 2024, Dr Santos dug deeper trying to figure out why treatment continued to be denied. At this time, it was found that the insurance required trial treatment with Valium three times daily, and a visit to a movement specialist for additional evaluation. My mother was started on diazepam and had an EEG performed due to unusual new symptoms of a flushing sensation that was found to be seizure-like activity. She also saw the movement neurologist Dr Melanie Taylor on January 22, 2024. At that visit, she was officially diagnosed with SPS. Valium was not helping and was weaned. Dr Taylor put in IVIG treatment request, and moved forward with getting pre-approval. The diazepam trial had failed, the movement specialist had been seen, and we had the official SPS diagnosis. We were fairly confident that all requirements had been met and that we could anticipate IVIG treatment approval. We were wrong. May 20, 2024 the Priority Health treatment denial was upheld by Maximus. For the next several months, we continued weekly plasmapheresis (as we had been since it started in 2021) and managed nausea and dizziness flares as they developed. By May of 2025 (this year) seizure activity had increased. Vision disturbances also were increasing. Since Priority Health seemed determined to never approve the recommended treatments, Dr Santos ordered surgery to address cataracts, then plastic surgery to lift hooded eyelids to try to improve vision and decrease symptoms however possible. IVIG treatment was again submitted for pre-approval. September 15th of this year we got another upholding of denial from Priority Health. Dr Taylor has requested an appeal, and September 16th we got notice that Maximus is reviewing the file again. Priority Health is defending their denial by referencing the Wisconsin Physicians Service Government Health Administrators LCD L34771, Chapter 15, section 50.4.2 of the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual, copied and pasted below. My experience with the Priority Health OTC benefit has been overwhelmingly negative. The debit card provided for OTC purchases does not work at Walgreens -- not once, but twice. After the first card failed, I requested a replacement, and the replacement card also failed at the register. Trying to get help from Customer Service was even worse. It was nearly impossible to reach a representative: * First attempt: I was 4th in line and still on hold for 21 minutes before I had to hang up. * Second attempt later that same day: I was 86th in line. * Third attempt after 6pm: I was 25th in line. During the wait, the same four recorded messages loop endlessly. After ten minutes of listening to them, I developed a migraine. This is not just inconvenient -- it's unacceptable. Priority Health claims to provide high‑quality service, but this experience tells a different story. If you want to offer an OTC benefit, you need to staff your customer service department adequately and ensure your cards actually work. Medicare reimbursement. In my Advantage plan I'm eligible for around $300 in annual reimbursement for gym dues. So far, due to resistance from Priority, it's taken around 30 hours of my time to obtain around $200 in reimbursements. This should be a cut and dried process, since the dues are the same amount monthly. But it seems like Priority is doing everything in their power, to make this a very difficult process. Their website rarely works as it should and trying to check claims information results in a message, saying their servers are down and their heads are in the clouds. Wow, so true. If you're knowledgeable and ready to fight about nearly every claim, by all means, priority health is for you! We are insured through my husband's work or we would have left years ago. Bills not being processed for nearly a year, claims being processed as out of network even though the provider was in network and my biggest gripe is the delay between claim submission and processing so it's nearly impossible to calculate when you hit your deductible. Sneaky verbiage in our plan details (for example, fam ded of $4k but not to exceed $3500 per person.. STILL doesn't mean your family ded is met even when one person hits that $3500 as the other $500 was assigned to the rest of my family) that even the reps couldn't explain! I had to escalate the issue three times and finally got a call back from a manager who wasn't the friendliest and still wasn't understanding my point. A few of the representatives have been kind and helpful not at all knowledgeable. See the problem? I got a Priority Health Plan through the Healthcare.gov Marketplace. IT WAS THE BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY!! DON'T SIGN UP WITH THEM!! It cost me $637 per month. Like so many others have said. NO ONE WILL TAKE THIS INSURANCE. Their website has inaccurate information as to who will take the insurance, so don't rely on that. I unfortunately did when I signed up, and then I had to call Priority. They told me that I would need a "referral" for someone that was supposedly in network from the start. I asked them how to get a referral, and they told me they do not give referrals. When I started the insurance, they automatically assigned me a Primary care physician several miles, and two cities away, in Hamtramck (a dangerous area-especially for a woman). I called them and asked them to help me find another primary care physician--because I couldn't find one on their site. The rep was having a hard time trying to find someone in my city willing to accept a new patient, and finally put me on hold, and then just hung up the line. I called again and another rep was again, not able to find a possible primary care physician, and hung up the line. I was astounded. Please note that this insurance will not cover you if there is a vehicle involved--even if you are not driving a car, but walking and are hit by a car. YOU have to pursue the driver of the car to get payment. Priority said they will not turn you away at the hospital, but you will be stuck with the bill and will have to pursue the driver of the car. I had 2 generic common cheap scripts, and again THIS INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER THEM. I paid for all scripts out of pocket. I paid for all doctor visits myself. I am a healthcare provider, and I have completely dropped off forms of priority health. They are extremely difficult to get newer drugs for their patients, have exceedingly high thresholds to pay for newer drugs. They also have ridiculous outside agencies, controlling their accessibility to testing and imaging using made up policies or guidelines, which, if researched in many cases do not even exist at an academic level. This has got to be the worst insurance company that I have ever dealt with in my entire life. It is a complete nightmare. I kept asking for a supervisor or a manager and all I got was a runaround, with different phone numbers that I had already tried. Then they made a three-way call, and the representative, I don't know from which country, connected me to another agent and then said, "Okay, I've put you through, have a nice day, I'll let you talk." After the representative from Priority Health hung up, the associate on the phone explained to me that she does not handle transportation. She had already informed the agent at Priority Health that transportation was not within her remit, but because Priority Health did not want to connect me to a supervisor or a manager, that's how it was left. This is not the way to treat people, especially those covered under your Priority Health plans. I would caution anyone looking for insurance not to choose Priority Health. They are uncaring, to say the least. Even the agent that was mistakenly connected to me couldn't believe that she had been left on the call, as she made it clear that she doesn't handle transportation, only gas cards. Priority Health needs to evaluate their staff and perhaps implement intensive customer service training. If they cannot improve their service, they should not be in business. I am not sure why so many complaints regarding Priority Health. First, I have been using my Credit Card to pay my Premium and any other bills for several years without any problem. watch out for surgical denials. The advantage plan denied a surgery for my husband after he had the exact procedure in a different area in 2022. They are recommending a more expensive surgery with a much longer recovery time. We are currently in an appeal process with Medicare.
