As we had 5 people we were able to have a private event and we could choose what we wanted to cook from his options. We chose the pasta and ravioli making class. I wasn't sure what to expect, and thought maybe we'd be watching the Chef cook and maybe we'd be following along but nope, he had us dive right in and follow the recipes he provided using ingredients he had at the ready. Since there were 5 of us, we worked in groups of two each working on different recipes and all along Chef was right there watching us and helping us and giving us pointers (3 of us were pretty seasoned cooks and knew a lot about cooking but we still learned a lot!!) Chef was very patient even when mistakes were made or something didn't turn out right he told us how to fix it. In 3 hours we made homemade focaccia bread, fettuccine, fresh basil angel hair pasta as well as sausage and cheese stuffed ravioli along with 3 types of sauces- Alfredo, marinara, and vodka. And then while we were eating this delicious food he began to show us how to prepare our dessert of bananas foster allowing the birthday girl to do the honors of igniting the rum by just the tip of the pan. Wow! What an amazing fun evening! The kitchen was huge, well appointed and clean and Chef was amazing to work with every step of the way from the planning to the execution. He offers date night menus for couples as well as many other menus. I highly recommend an evening cooking with Chef Chris. This was definitely one of the highlights of our birthday weekend/family get together.

Chefs Monica and Nicole are such friendly, special people with incredible talent. Every Thursday, they open dinner service with a rotating, seasonal menu supporting local vendors. Tonight we got house salads, chicken-bacon-meatloaf sandwich with homemade fries, and parmesan crusted cod with asparagus and angel hair pasta. The sandwich was amazing and packed with flavor from the aioli and salsa. The fries have the perfect addition of cracked pepper. The cod was so yummy with the crispy crust. And the peanut butter pie (also homemade) was delicious. If you're looking for an intimate, woman owned, hidden gem then try Above and Beyond. You won't be dissatisfied or leave hungry! They cater too!

Their cafe sells sandwiches (e.g., club and caprese), salads (e.g., Greek and antipasto), and sides (e.g., spinach artichoke and grape leaves). Their catering menu appears to be much larger and includes many appetizers, party trays, and party pans and cuisines such as Italian, taco, poke, and fine dining. So far, I have bought several foods from Above & Beyond. Here are my reviews for the foods: "Not Your Mom's Eggplant Parmesan" - 4 stars - This entree contained eggplant, parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, and marinara sauce. "Mac n Cheese" - 4 stars - This macaroni contained cheddar and parmesan cheeses and was topped with breadcrumbs. I expected more cheese, but I enjoyed the flavors. "Traditional Hummus" - 3.5 stars - This hummus contained chickpeas, tahini, garlic, paprika, lemon, and oil. It had a nicely creamy texture. "Stuffed Cabbage" - 3 stars - This stuffed cabbage contained less meat and more rice than what I like. "Pierogi Lasagna" - 5 stars - This entree consisted of lasagna noodles, potato, cheese, onion, butter, salt, and pepper. I really enjoyed this entree, and I would order it again in the future. "Beef Lasagna" - 4.5 stars - This lasagna contained noodles, ground beef, marinara, ricotta, and mozzarella. I liked the flavors. According to Above & Beyond's website, they also offer cooking classes for adults and children.

In their own words, this team strives "to provide locals, expats and newcomer Burgh fans alike with unique, functional and decorative ceramics." I personally own a few things from this shop, and I also keep it in mind as a local shopping option whenever a holiday or birthday is coming up. The items produced and sold here are all fantastic. From Steeler Nation and "nebby" mugs to pierogi magnets, the things that you think of when you think of the Steel City are very likely recognized in ceramic form at Pittsburgh Pottery. Regarding the specific items they sell, I'm particularly fond of their "Worsh" soap dispenser design, which is possibly the perfect combination of practical and Pittsburgh-centric design. The mug collection here is also great, with a variety of sizes as well as a variety of patterns (some of which also come with variations in their color schemes). Bonus points: since the business moved into a bigger storefront in Carnegie in the last couple of years, browsing through their fabulous creations is even more enjoyable. The extra space to walk and admire the store makes for a very relaxing visit, and the large front windows help to illuminate the shop and highlight the gorgeous ceramics. Plus, the new storefront even includes a "sale nook" - a little side room with items that, while still beautiful, have some sort of imperfection that has earned them a discount price. So there you have it, readers: yinz better stop in here soon if you love Pittsburgh! Alternatively, if you're holding off on visiting storefronts for the time being, you can browse their website and find the perfect Steel City trinket there. However you choose to shop, the ceramics made here are all high-quality, eye-catching creations, and you won't be disappointed.
