When you are diagnosed with breast cancer all the doctors ask if you have any questions, and you have so many it's hard to put them into words one at a time. I didn't know anything about reconstruction in general or PRMA or DIEP Flap reconstruction. My husband began reading about it online and telling me about it. It was so much information I wasn't ready to think about it all, but as the weeks passed his words began to sink in: I could wake up from a complete bilateral mastectomy, and still have breasts. It didn't seem possible. Gradually I began to read about it myself. I decided it was the only thing that made sense for me because I wanted something that, when it was over, it would really be over- not something I would have to think about throughout the rest of my life with the likelihood of more procedures in the future. I had the surgery 5 weeks ago. Dr. Chrysopoulo and Denise walked me through the whole process beforehand with very complete information: verbally and in writing. Everything they said was true. So far everything has happened like they said it would. When I have had questions I've emailed Denise and she responds quickly. The pain involved was managed so well that it's not even the thing I think about when I recall the surgery and weeks following. I still have to have the second surgery, but I don't feel afraid anymore. They are excellent at what they do and the way they do it. I would have done negative stars if it were allowed. My wife is dealing with breast cancer which will require a bilateral mastectomy necessitating a reconstructive breast surgeon. We are doing our chemo treatment in San Antonio and the surgeon that was going to perform the mastectomy recommended us to PRMA, since they pretty much have a monopoly on the breast reconstruction in San Antonio. We have had Humana For years and never had a problem. I called to setup an appointment with PRMA to be told they take all insurance INCLUDING MEDICAID, EXCEPT HUMANA. I asked the lady what it would be if we did private pay and she responded "between $40,000 & $500,000, can you handle that?" So I asked for a referral for a surgeon in SA and she told me there weren't any, so I asked about outside SA, she gave me the name of someone in Fort Worth. We have decided to have the mastectomy and reconstruction in Austin, we have found several highly qualified breast reconstruction specialists that are caring and helpful and actually act like they are interested in the patient. The long and short of it, I wouldnt use PRMA if they were going to do this for free. Their name should be PRIMA DONNA. Ladies, if you need reconstruction, go to Austin and be treated like a human. read more

I had a double mastectomy in November 2023. My doctor and the entire staff were amazing, and I truly appreciate the care and compassion I received throughout my treatment. However, I have been struggling with the results of my breast reconstruction. I have always felt that my reconstructed breasts are much larger than I am comfortable with. At first, after everything I had gone through, I did not want to undergo another surgery, even though my doctor mentioned that a breast reduction was an option when I told him during a follow-up visit that I was unhappy with their size. As time has passed, my feelings have only become stronger. My confidence has gone from a 10 to a 0. I often feel uncomfortable and dissatisfied with my body because of the size of my breasts. In addition, I continue to deal with sciatic and nerve pain on a daily basis, which has made recovery even more challenging. I am grateful for the excellent medical care I received, but I wanted to be honest about how I have been feeling. I would like to discuss whether a breast reduction or revision surgery would be an appropriate option for me at this point, as I believe it would significantly improve both my physical comfort and my confidence. read more

I'll was diagnosed with breast cancer March 3, 2014 and had a bilateral mastectomy on March 31st. After healing I did chemotherapy, luckily with no radiation, and finished that September 3. In October I saw a local plastic surgeon that informed me of my options for reconstruction. After a lot of research i decided to do the DIEP flap. As no one in my state does that procedure, I did more research. A lot more! I decided PRMA was the place for me! Dr. Pisano and his staff are the best. Because i live out of state, I chose the 2 day turn-around to save a trip, and also because I knew, (after reading everything on their web page and talking to them on the phone and through emails) that I didn't need the face to face consult I originally thought I needed! I saw Dr. Pisano on Monday, April 20, 2015 and had DIEP flap reconstruction on April 22. I went back to San Antonio in September for phase 2. Without a doubt, there cannot be any physicians anywhere that are more skilled, compassionate, or devoted than the ones at PRMA. I will do phase 3 locally, probably in December. I couldn't be happier with the results of my reconstruction and will be eternally grateful to Dr. Pisano and the entire staff at PRMA. read more

I was introduced to PRMA via the written recommendations of other women who had been patients there. The testimonies of these other women were SO positive and SO enthusiastic that I had a hard time believing a surgeons' practice could really be that good. But honestly, from the moment I called their office, through the surgery, to my post-surgery follow-up appointment, PRMA was absolutely amazing to work with. Dr Arishita did DIEP Flap reconstruction of my left breast in 2015. 17 years previously I had a lumpectomy and radiation but the cancer returned. Dr Arishita was the only plastic surgeon I consulted who was willing to do the reconstruction with radiated skin involved. There were no complications and I got a new breast that looks and feels just like my other non cancerous breast. With this procedure, there is no longer a need to fear mastectomy so much. I am so glad that I found PRMA. Dr. Chrysopoulo is a wonderful and caring surgeon. I had a bilateral mastectomy in March of 2015 with silicone implants placed in June 2015. I was very unhappy with my results. My breast were cold heavy and I felt like I had a large rubber band around my chest all the time. I knew right away that I wanted the implants out. I researched for a few months, I wanted to find a plastic surgeon with experience and great reviews. Dr Chrysopoulo and his nurse Denise met all my expectations. 2013 Diep Flap reconstruction. An amazing team of surgeons and they work very well together to perform incredible results. And then you are attended in their office by a friendly and caring medical staff that also keeps you connected afterwards...it's a sad feeling when your visits are over and you feel out in the cold (most common with Breast Cancer patients). I just returned to California after having a double mastectomy and immediate reconstruction surgery using the DIEP flap procedure. I am extremely pleased with the results. I had the surgery in San Antonio, Texas at the Methodist Hospital at the end of January 2017 with Dr. Peter Ledoux and his team performing the surgery. I live in south Texas and drove 5 hours to use Dr Arishita at PRMA. He is simply the best. He preformed a double reconstruction on me, after finding cancer in each breast 2 years in a row. I only can say I look and feel fantastic. Dr Arishita did a fantastic job. He was very kind and caring.
