There's never a dull moment with Leo & Lola, the bulldogs, especially in the woods. We survived a…read morenight of backpacking in the nearby Black River State Forest and were prepared to hike more when Leo, rooting around after sticks, suddenly was yelping and scratching at his eye. We hiked two miles back to the car with him squinting and his eye watering. No, I did not have to carry him and he eagerly scampered along the trail despite the eyeball issue. Whew! Thank goodness we had cell service at the car and lucked out finding the Northwood Vet Service. I called them at 11:40am on a Saturday and the friendly receptionist encouraged us to come in at noon and provided directions (and note, they closed at noon so they were being especially nice). The clinic was clean and staff were all equally friendly in person. Dr. Emily promptly saw us and was able to tell Leo had a bit of a scratch on his eye. She flushed it out and gave us an antibiotic ointment and we were good to go! The prices were quite reasonable as well: Office visit ($25), eye flush/stain ($10) and the ointment ($12.50). It was so appreciated how they didn't hesitate to stay late to accommodate us and how they were friendly and efficient upon our arrival. Leo's eye looks 100 times better today. All in all, a great experience!

I cannot believe how little Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital cares about animals…read more My 8-month-old Great Pyrenees puppy was seriously ill -- severe diarrhea, and his injured leg was completely non-weight-bearing. He was struggling to walk, and I was rushed and worried, doing my best to get him safely from his cage into the car. And let me be clear: it is not easy to lift and move an 80-pound injured puppy from a cage into a vehicle without causing more pain. That alone took time and care, but I still managed to get him there. When I arrived, I parked in the closest spot I saw in my panic, only to realize the entrance was down the hill. Even with all of that, I still walked in just two minutes past their "10-minute grace period." I understand having policies -- but where is the grace when it comes to a sick, injured puppy? Instead of compassion, Oakwood coldly turned him away. No flexibility. No care. Nothing. I then had to carry my 80-pound Great Pyrenees puppy back up the hill, in obvious pain, because they refused to let him see a veterinarian. What makes this even worse is that when we first set up this appointment, Oakwood specifically told us we wouldn't need to treat this as an urgent care or emergency visit unless it got worse. That assurance is the only reason we trusted them and went forward with the appointment. And when it mattered most, they abandoned us over a matter of two minutes. This is supposed to be an animal hospital. A true animal hospital would prioritize the health of animals over the clock. Oakwood has shown the opposite: their rules and image matter more than compassion, or the lives of the pets entrusted to them. If you love your animals, think twice before coming here. Oakwood Animal Hospital has proven to me -- painfully -- that they do not care about animals. And Oakwood -- please do not attempt to "reach out" to make this right. I have no interest in further communication with your clinic.

They were absolutely right. Because I'm a little complicated to schedule sometimes, we've actually seen all five vets at various times. Each has been kind, caring, thorough, professional and expert. They won't let me diagnose her and request meds on the phone, which would be easier sometimes, but it's not about what's easy. It's about what's best for Tiki, and they hold to that standard always. When she tore her CCL, they carefully explained three care options. They did not push me to choose one over the others. They would have given the best treatment for any option I chose. I chose surgery, and her care was wonderful. There's a specialist who comes in from out of town to do this procedure for several veterinary practices in the area, and Westgate provided the before and after care. The whole staff was very patient when I would call with my many "worried Mom" questions afterward. I recommend them without reservation.

We will be forever grateful that an in-home euthanasia option was actually available here in our…read morerural area. Our Howie would have been so anxious and uncomfortable in his final moments if he had to go into the vet.
