It pains me to leave this review since I have been going for years but today was the final straw. Let me start by saying Lisa is amazing. If you go there ask for her. This soon is family owned. The husband can be a nice, funny guy but more often he is nasty and not at all nice. I have been there many times and just ignored him as he is talking shit about other customers. This time I got a huge attitude because i cancelled a prior appointment. I was told " I can't accept appointments people are not going to keep". Excuse me but lately since they went to these new hours whenever I call they tell me when I can come in. Not the other way around. Last i checked i was the paying customer. About 1.5 years ago they closed on Sundays, which leaves only one day a week for the customers who work to get their nails done. I've been going to this salon for a few years, and Hannah has done an amazing job at designs and medium length acrylic tips if anyone was to go here. Well, I'm giving this two stars because (1) the prices are ridiculous and (2) they are almost always late. They definitely overcharge for manicures and do not go by the prices listed on the wall. They also don't explain to you why the price has changed so drastically. I usually make later appointments in the day, and almost always I am forced to wait up to half an hour later than scheduled. That could be due to overbooking or time slots being too short, but either way I can't keep dealing with it. The last interaction I had with this salon is when I came in about 10 minutes late and the owner told me my appointment with Hannah was taken over by a walk in customer, and I would need to get my nails done by one of the other rude, standoffish nail techs. Had a walk-in at Pro Nails in Mahwah on a super busy Saturday afternoon and got serviced and spoke to immediately. Dora did my acrylic full set with UV gel which isn't what I originally came in for but I got after she continued to tell me that's what would look best on my nails. It wasn't a problem but I wish I would've stood my ground and asked about the difference between UV gel and regular gel. I have been coming here for a long time and I have given this place several chances because they do the UV gel nails so well, but I think this was my last time coming. They are very pushy and will try to convince you to do UV gel every time because it's the most expensive and it's very annoying to have to sit there and request something other than UV gel several times before they do it. And if you are doing anything other than UV gel nails they put very little effort into the service. I wanted to remove my UV gel nails today and do regular gel. After they finally understood that I wouldn't be convinced to do UV gel again, they started taking off my UV gel nails to do regular gel. The girl I had did my nails so quickly and carelessly, she ended up ripping a piece of skin off my pinky and when she was actually doing my nails I had to tell her several times to fix them so they could look like the way I wanted them to and I still didn't get what I asked for. And to top it off I was charged $40 for a gel manicure, which is ridiculous because even post COVID I haven't seen any place charge this much for a gel manicure (not to mention the prices on their board still say a gel manicure is $20). I went here for my first set of acrylic tips. I was so disappointed. The nail tech used the drill on my nails which completely ruined them. They were so lumpy and misshapen too. They looked completely ridiculous. She also cut my fingers multiple times and made me bleed. Also she did not touch my cuticles until the very end, so there was a big gap between the acrylic nails and my cuticle bed. The manicure sucked. They did not do anything that I liked. I also called ahead of time to ask the price. They told me $35 on the phone and then charged me $45. I asked why they told me $35 and she told me that's for just tips without color. I have been going to Pro Nails for 14 years and I have always loved the way my nails, pedicures and waxing have come out! I have had wonderful experiences with every technician and never had any issues! You can definitely walk in but if you are planning to go during a busy time call ahead to see how long the wait would be or make an appt. I have back issues as well had surgeries and they always go above and beyond to make sure I'm comfortable and accommodate me and check to make sure I'm ok throughout my appointment. The owners truly care about your health and nails and will tell you the truth about what's best for you and your nails. They have truly cared so much about their customers that I don't think they've raised prices in years which is unheard of at other salons. They have added an amazing nail art technician Dylan that is a truly talented artist that you will be blown away by the art he can put on such a tiny nail! First and last time going to this salon. I clearly stated which gel colors I would like for my manicure. I point them out and repeat what colors. The woman doing my nails begins using the wrong colors. While I understand this was accidental (since there were two different gel books circulating), she treated me very rudely and shook her head at me many times. Then, the owner asked in a kind if sarcastic tone if "those are the right colors, sweetie". Nail service is great, but I didn't appreciate being treated rudely and as if I was throwing a fit. Could not be more upset about my last experience after being a customer for 2 years. Used to absolutely LOVE this place and despite one of my go to nail techs moving out of town I still used to frequent Pro Nails regularly. After moving out of state for school I came back to Pro Nails for the first time in June. That last experience completely ruined my love for this place. I came in asking for an acrylic set and was paired with a nail tech who I'd never met before which isn't unusual there. My experience was horrendous. Crooked shape, thick and uneven coats of polish, every single person who saw my nails thought they were cheap press ons. I literally ripped them off because I couldn't stand looking at them anymore. Not only did the nails look atrocious but I developed painful infections in my cuticles as well as periungal WARTS which I have never had in my entire life. I was absolutely disgusted by the lack of care and attention to detail which at one point was the norm for Pro Nails. I was also able to understand my nail technician speak about me in Spanish to her coworkers commenting on my physical appearance and face. Was on the verge of tears when I walked out of this place. This is by far the least hygienic nail salon that I have been to. My technician used rusty and clearly unclean equipment on my nails that did not come out of a sealed bag. She was too lazy to wait for my gel polish to soak off, and started filing the tops of my nails to get the polish off quicker. My natural nails are now extremely weak and completely scratched as a result. My technician was also extremely rude and applied my polish in a rush, leaving my nails lumpy and covered in air bubbles. Before I continue this review, I must note that I am commenting ONLY on service and waxing. I've used this "salon" a few times a year for eyebrow waxing walk-ins, simply because they're cheap ($7) and it beats paying $20 at my regular salon & having to schedule an appt. Every time I go in, the place REEKS of chemicals. Since I don't get my nails done, I'm not sure what this smell is, but I'm assuming it must be from nail products. They have incredibly poor ventilation (and all the technicians are wearing masks, which tells you something about the fumes). I never make an appt, and they usually take me in fairly quickly (under 10 minutes). Perhaps it was my fault, but I stopped in today around 1:40. I realize I went in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. When I walked in, the smell was so bitter & chemical. I stood at the (unattended) desk until someone yelled out "Can I help you?" I had no idea who, since nobody was actually looking at me. I told her I wanted to get my eyebrows waxed. No response. I stood there for another 10 seconds, then sat down to wait. And wait. And...wait...25 minutes went by, and I was still waiting, and the fumes were disgusting. Mind you, 2 women came in, who must have been regulars, because they were greeted by the man up front who was also doing nails. I finally got up and walked out. I couldn't stand to breathe in the fumes any longer or be ignored until they were ready for me. I'd rather spend more money elsewhere and be able to breathe & have the employees provide good customer service. I may not spend a lot, but I was also considering having my nails done today. I usually get my nails done by Sonny as I feel he does the best work. He pays attention to every detail to make sure my nails look perfect, which they always do with him. I just left and got my nails done by the woman with glasses who seems to run the place. She did a terrible job. She was focused so much on everything else going on in the salon (annoying and rude), and was very obviously rushing to do my nails. They came out very uneven, thick and almost every nail is a different length. I usually get a coffin shape and they started off looking good but she used way too much gel and didn't bother to shape them evenly. If I could give this place no stars I would. If you want a cheap crappy uneven set at a dirty salon then this is your place. I've been coming here for over a year on and off because the fill ins are cheap and there was one girl who did a good job there but she left. Today I was told that I needed to take all of my nails off and get a new set when only 3 needed to be fixed. I've been getting acrylics done for 10 years and I know when a nail needs to be replaced. Today I was refused service because I would not do a new full set for $65. My usual fill is $35 and new set should be $50 but they really just want to squeeze money out of you. ALSO don't bother making an appointment because EVERY time I go no matter how much I'm advance an appointment is made they make you wait for 30 min at least. I don't even know if they actually have an appointment book that they write in. The owner is a jerk, told me to shut up and listen once when he was going on a rant of a story while fixing my nails. This was the worst manicure pedicure I've ever gotten. They were so incredibly rude to me and my mom and half assed both the manicure and the pedicure.
