I love renting from these guys, they have a great selection of equipment...basically anything you could need! They take time to walk you through any important details or usage for the equipment. It's been a few years since I've used their services but recently needed to rent studio lighting for a photoshoot. I forgot how the window for the return period worked and accidentally returned their equipment later than expected. Realizing my mistake I tried to offer to pay for an extra rental day but they refused stating they didn't explicitly mention it during pickup and let it slide. I use to live in Boulder but moved to Denver a few years ago. Went in with a friend to check-in out the equipment he needed for a wedding. This was his first wedding he's ever done so he had a ton of questions and wanted to try out everything. The guy working there was very willing to let us try everything and helped explain pros and cons of each. He knew the prices of everything and when we had a question he did not know he made sure to look it up. The prices my friend said for renting were cheaper than the online rental places he was looking at. I rented a Sigma 18-35mm lens for my Nikon that was to be used for a large family reunion event in Pueblo, CO. After the two hour drive from Boulder to Pueblo, I discovered that I had been mistakenly given a Sigma 18-35mm for a Canon. Immediately, I called Pro Photo to inform them of the mixup, and without hesitation, Eric offered to hand-deliver the correct lens to me that night. I've rented lenses before from other vendors while traveling, and usually the service is a bit surley, the prices are outrageous, and they require a huge deposit. If I had that type of money sitting around I'd buy instead of rent! One of my friends told me about Pro Photo Rental and not only are they local to me, but they have competitive prices! I think PPR is one of the most valuable photographic resources in the metro area-- the founder Jared is a great guy, always willing to listen to the problem you're trying to solve or type of situation you're looking to capture and takes the time offer great suggestions whether or not it results in a rental, even if it is just a tip about the camera you're using. Pro Photo Rental is also supportive of the local community and sponsors photo walks/safaris from time to time and let people try out their equipment for free for the whole day! Recently out of the blue I had a chance to take a day off and I was able to secure a lens from them with very little notice and even had to keep changing my pick-up times and it was still a very painless process. I've never needed to have a lens shipped to me, but from what I understand they offer free shipping and all of the lenses are shipped in a Pelican style hard case. I have rented from them a couple of times so far and already have several other reservations this year. Can't wait to shoot with some more L series rental glass! Besides having ridiculously low rates and friendly customer service (I was on a first name basis my second time in the store -- a nice touch and a lost quality with most businesses!), Pro Photo is, most importantly for me, flexible. To make a long story short, I work in news and often receive short notice for out-of-town gigs. My shoot was on, then off, then back on again. PPR applied a 2-day credit when I returned the lens early, and I was able to use said credit the next day when I showed back up for the same lens. My experience reserving was great, I rented a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM with no problems. The lens was in great quality; normal wear but glass was perfect. The people at the business where polite, considerate, and knowledgeable when I picked it up. I encountered a problem when dropping off the lens. First my responsibility: I should have asked before I rented, how/when I would be released from the contract (responsibility) before I rented, I did not. I would not have rented if I would have asked up front. When I dropped off the lens they were hesitant to give me a document saying that I returned the lens and that it was in good working order. In short, they wanted me to leave the lens with them while I was still legally responsible for it. If something happened to the lens when it wasn't in my possession it would be on me. They said when they had time they would review the lens and send a confirmation at their leisure. That is not good business in my opinion. I did receive a confirmation email that I had returned the lens and it was in good working order about 30-60 minutes after drop off. I would not recommend this place until they change this policy and would suggest renting from Camren (http://www.camren.com/) which checks the equipment while I am there. read more

Dropped my Nikon camera for sensor cleaning. It was ready within the day and it only cost me $40 (+tax). Great service and friendly, eager to answer my questions. I can't recommend PPR enough. I rented a Canon 16-35mm 2.8 iii for a week and it was immaculate. It came in a hard case and performed like a brand new lens, not like I've experienced from other businesses where lenses get passed around between so many ambiguous photographers. The rate structure seems to be designed to save you money if you rent for a prolonged period of time. We also rented a GoPro Hero 5 Black, and this is the part of the story where PPR shines in my opinion. While I did get the liability protection on the big lens, I didn't bother with it for the GoPro. Why? I don't know it didn't register with me for some reason. It came with a housing and floating handle, plus the understanding that it was waterproof to deeper than I can personally swim. We opened the case only once to put the microSD card in and went about our trip. Unfortunately the GoPro wound up with water damage pretty early on, after a single use there was an unknown amount of ocean water that had leaked into the camera. I didn't even know until I pulled the camera out again a couple of days later and it would no longer turn on. I pretty much expected that I had purchased a GoPro at that point. When I returned the lens and GoPro I explained what happened and spoke with Jared. He was really understanding and told me that he'd take a look at the camera to see what could be done. It turned out that the gasket around the battery in the GoPro had been compromised, but rather than pass the buck from everyone who had rented it previously, Jared gave us a call and explained the damage, but also cut us some slack and explain how they will start checking that part of the camera for future rentals. I never write reviews but this place was such a pleasant experience that this is my first review. A friend and I planned a last minute road trip heading out to Denver, CO. While we were there we wanted to take some pictures. We called a few places, ended up choosing Pro Photo although it was a bit out of our way. The prices were much better than local areas near Denver, and once we walked in the staff was very open, friendly, and asked what kind of photos we were wanting to take. We wanted something for landscapes and portraits, so they hooked us up with all the gear we needed, showed us how everything worked, down to the tripod, and quoted us a very reasonable price for the weekend. The service of friendliness and politeness epitomized our entire experience while in Denver. It was a memorable trip. read more

In short if you are an amateur photographer looking for the right equipment to rent, look somewhere else. This is not the place. I am a small business man who likes to support other local small business. While this company is not local it is still in Colorado so I thought I would give it a try. I called them and explained that I am an amateur using a Nikon D-5000 and I was going into the mountains for a week. I explained that I was looking into getting an 80-400 lens with the second generation vibration control. I was informed that that the lens I wanted was not available but that the older, comparable version was and it works "Just Fine". (This was clue #1) It was also explained that if I rent the lens for 14 days instead of the 7 that I needed it for, it would be less expensive. (This was clue #2) Everything sounded good so I went online and placed my order when I was told they don't take orders over the phone. (This was clue #3) A few weeks later the lens was waiting for me when I got home. As the instructions directed, I tested the lens to ensure everything was working properly. After a frustrating 30 minutes I came to the conclusion that the autofocus was not working I called the first thing the next morning and explained my issue and was told I would be called back when they had some information for me. (This was clue #4) Three hours later I received a call informing me that the autofocus on that lens does not work with my camera. I explained that I need the autofocus due to shrapnel injuries I have received to my eyes. I was told that I could use the lens on manual focus or if I did not want to use the lens I could return it and pay for the four days the lens had been out.(2 days shipping each way I guess) Since I had to pay for 4 of the 7 days I was going to be shooting, I choose to try the lens. That was a mistake; 80 to 90 present of the shots taken with the lens are not usable. The only saving grace was that I had with me my less powerful lens and those shots came out great. As a small business owner I guess I expect more from a small business such as how can we make this right or we are sorry the lens doesn't work, send it back to us and there is no charge since you can't use it. Instead this company gave me the "You're out" attitude I received. Even when I returned the lens personally to the shop and explained what had occurred, there was no attempt to make this right other than "Sorry". $150.00 plus out the window. As I said, rent your camera equipment elsewhere, friends tell me LensRentals.com are great to work with. I'll try them next time. TI Colorado Springs CO read more

The lens and metabones adapter were both available through them, and I was able to capture some stunning photos of wildlife on our road trip! The initial rental went well until we returned the equipment. We received a call stating the battery we returned was the incorrect battery. My wife, who is the photographer, drove there with another battery she thought might be there battery, Prophoto called again later stating this was also the incorrect battery having a 2010 manufactures date, but had there sticker on it. My wife made second trip there and took a third battery, only to be accused of swapping the sticker, which she did not do. They kept the third battery, and said this was there battery with the sticker removed. I think there was a battery swap, but it happened before we rented the equipment and ProRental did not catch it. To accuse my wife and is completely unacceptable behavior and we will no longer use ProPhoto for anything in the future. I can not express the displeasure I have toward the 2 gentlemen who work there. read more
