Very friendly and helpful staff. I told them what I was looking for and they knew exactly where to find it. Very nice people in there.

I didn't spend much time, but the store had good vibes and lovely floors so I was sold. The place is a long rectangular shape with fresh hardwood floors. Off to the left, there is a little nook with a flat screen TV and a small leather couch. Smack down in the middle of the store is a foosball table, surrounded by tons of fancy wooden boards and flashy skate clothing. There were fedoras aplenty, lined up fashionably along one of the walls. The dude working was on the phone and didn't give me the nod, but I was in a peek and dash mood, so didn't quite care. This place seems to have loads of gear at a high price point. If you're in the business of breaking boards regularly, you probably don't want to drop serious dime, so maybe head somewhere else. The hours here are a bit odd; perhaps indicative of a skater lifestyle (sleeping in late? - hmmm). This shop has a nice layout and is in a convenient location. If you're a boarder babe, this may be a grand place for you to suss out.

Although this shop carries different boards than the shop downtown, the young guy working there, never moved from in front of the computer to help us. His answer to everything was , it all the same. Well, to me it is not , and out the door we went. If I am about to drop $200 or more for a board, get off your ass and assist us.

Hockey life was established in Montreal in 1973 and now carries the crown for the largest retail hockey store with a total of 23 in Canada. Yes this is a box store but it is Canadian. The store has large flat screen TV's throughout it to make your experience that much better while shopping. I can not imagine there is anything else needed. This store carries it all from, sticks, skates, bags , safety equipment, memorabilia, clothing, the list goes on. I eyed a few things I think would be great for gifts. Now, I will be honest, when the word Hockey is said, I think Money, sports are very expensive to take part in, that is nothing new. So do not complain on prices. It is what it is. I felt the prices were reasonable here. There was a hockey bag for about $45.00. However, I am not a professional shopper of hockey gear, so keep that in mind if you go in. This is a great store and a welcomed edition to the city for sure. We are a huge hockey town here, so I think this place will do well. The staff here were young and friendly, I think it would be a great place to work.

I keep thinking Yelp is meant for restaurants and forget that when I have a good (or bad)…read moreexperience at any business establishment I can turn to Yelp and give an honest opinion... I'm not here to talk about food quality or presentation of a particular menu item. I'm not here to talk about how awesome it was to build Legos and dress up like pirates (though that was pretty spectacular)... I'm here to talk about running shoes and my experience at the Halifax Shopping Centre Sport Chek. I'm about to run my first marathon (Crazy yes, but oh so needed for this life changing journey) and for the past couple of weeks I've been on the hunt for a new pair of Saucony running shoes (I'm a die hard fan). After being sorely disappointed in Aerobics first (another review possibly?) and Amazon I turned to the clearance blow-out by Cleve's and found a nice pair of running shoes... The only problem? They didn't "POP". This is going to be my first marathon people. Everything needs to look good, feel good and hey did I mention looking good? Meegan and I happen to stop in at another Sport Chek location earlier this week looking for a new running shirt (remember I need to look good while running 42km). They were having a buy one get one half off sale on shoes... We just looked... A day later we found ourselves at the Halifax Centre location with the intent of purchasing not only another pair of Saucony running shoes for me but another pair of athletic shoes for her. There was only one guy working in the shoe department - Jacob. The review is more about him than anything else. After spending a lot of time in the major "running" stores in the area he is by far the most helpful person I've encountered and he's not even a runner (hockey knees!). For someone that doesn't run he has quite the knowledge background and took the time to explain to me all this new talk about 4mm drop (it's a running thing) and about the difference between a stability / neutral/ minimal shoe. At the other "running" stores I sort of got the evil eye for not knowing all the technical terms (I just run...) He spent quite a bit of time going back and forth between shoes for Meegan and me. In the end we both walked away with a pair of shoes that we fell in love with. The store itself was ginormous. Chock full of all kinds of sports equipment and a pretty large clearance section in the middle (I do love a good clearance section). If you get a chance head to the back where the athletic shoes, look for Jacob and try on a pair of Sauconys!
