My friend and I visited here in August to get a pedicure. We chose the spa pedicure which included a food massage, hot stone, and hot towel wrap. I had no idea how much my feet needed this. We took art that we drew and they were happy to create our design on our toes! They put us next to each other. Usually I wouldn't leave a review but considering how I was treated, I must do what's right. If your skin has a hint of tan, please bypass this business. Understand, I don't immediately shout "race card" or prejudice but that's what Pro Top Nails in Trussville is-RACIST. I've been a loyal customer for nearly 10 years and today I'm happy to depart from them. I started to notice when I come in for a pedicure, they seat me at the end chair or next to the end. The black customers are always seated at the end. I noticed a pattern towards the black customers. So I started my observation. On the first occasion, a family of 3 came in after me but were seated in 3 pedicure chairs before me. I spoke to the owners wife "Angie" who said they made an appointment. I wasn't convinced. I let it go. Each visit I noticed they would chatter amongst themselves when I walked in. They started to dedicate a certain tech for my pedicure. Today was the absolute final straw. It's three ladies ahead of me. One wanted a manicure and the other two wanted pedicures. Four customers came in AFTER me. Because I have been a customer for nearly 10 years, Angie is aware I only come for pedicures. She proceeds to ask everyone what service they wanted. She skipped over me so I wrongly assumed she knew what I wanted. The lady to my left looked at me as if to say, she didn't ask you nothing peasant. Five minutes later Angie comes around and starts assigning chairs. And what do you know, she put a lady and her young daughter ahead of me. I'm patiently waiting for her next move. She says to me, you wait here for a single chair and the two ladies next to me she assigns them pedicure chairs! A single chair? What's that? Oh you mean a chair at the back where another black customer is being serviced. I walk over to her husband and say, your wife put all the other women that came AFTER me ahead of me in a pedicure chair. Of course, he goes you getting a pedicure, we will get you. I say, the problem is she put them ahead of me. Why must I wait? I told him I've been coming there for years. I politely placed the nail polish back on the shelf and walked out. Never once did I raise my voice, but the people that went ahead of me knew I was there before them, but I was the only one not seated. They just looked at me while I'm speaking to Angie's husband. My advice would be to black women and men, do not take your business or hard earned money and allow someone to outright disrespect you. I don't beg no one to take my money. Many may not know but Andy left twice because of Angie. He was a wonderful man that did a great job. Research this business and read the reviews and you will see how Angie is described repeatedly as a rude and disrespectful person. I always tipped well to the technicians but I cannot continue to give money to a business that treat you based upon the color of your skin. But the nail polish is no where near close and the gentleman changed one of the colors for me but the colors aren't what I wanted. Today I stopped by Pro top nails to get two nails repaired and a polish. This is my first time going to this nail salon and today I chose to go there for convenience while I was waiting on my daughters to finish dance class nearby. I was given a pretty, nasty look from the lady that greeted me while inside. Actually, she did not greet me at all. I had to speak to her first. I asked her if I can get the two nails replaced and have my nails polished. She proceeded to tell me that they didn't have an acrylic person today. There was a nail salon full of people. How could they not be an acrylic person there in a nail salon?!? I immediately realize this was a lie. I could actually smell the acrylic while I was there. Needless to say, I will never return. I have been using Danny & Angie at ProTop in Trussville for 11 years. I have used SO many nail salons, even when I moved out of town for 5 years, and Danny still was the only one that could do my acrylics RIGHT and for them to actually stay on for 2-3 weeks without popping off. They are some of the sweetest, most genuine people you will meet. And they know what they are doing. I am thoroughly disgusted and disappointed about my last visit to this establishment. I must say,however, that in the past, I have been quite pleased with their services. On this day that was definitely not the case. I went in for a manicure and pedicure. I did not have an appointment, so as a "walk-in", I knew there might be a wait. I was fine with that. The wait ended up being 40 minutes. (People came in after me and were serviced while I waited.). Finally, I was told to sit in a pedicure chair and waited another 15 minutes. Then I was told to go to a manicure table. After 5 or 10 minutes, I was sent back to to the pedicure area. Waited about 5 minutes--nobody came to do my pedicure so I left. By the way, 2 of the people who arrived after I did were ready to leave when I left. This treatment was totally unacceptable and a complete waste of my time. Went in to try it out as I'm new to the area and need to find a good nail salon. I asked for a basic pedicure, not a spa pedicure or anything. Pedicure was absolutely the most basic pedicure I've ever had. No pumice stone, grater, hot wax...nothing but removal of polish, filing nails as I had already cut them, pushed back cuticles, applied new polish and not really even a foot massage, she brought out some warm stones and basically rubbed them on my feet for less than one minute. On today I dropped in for my normal pedicure only to be approached by one of the staff asking what services that I would like to have performed. I informed her that I would like l the spa pedicure. She then went on to look me up and down as though I was not welcomed. Then she informed me that they only take appointments since, COVID. The staff member then informed me that it would be a 30 minute wait. I have no issues when I have to wait, since it was drop in. However, I do take issue with the employee indicating that it is an appointment only establishment, when that has not been the case previously. Please know that I do not make racial allegations frequently or without much consideration. However, I do believe that was the case. I was wearing my hair in a natural style and was casually dressed. The employee was in her 30's, 5' and probably weighed about 140-150lbs. She typically manages the flow of the technicians. After I went in the owner (woman) told me to pick out my color and stood over me the entire time I was looking, acting annoyed. She then told me I would have to pay $50. The worst pedicure I've ever had. First, although everyone was wearing a mask, there were way too many people in the salon. Very few people 6 ft apart. I had an appointment and still had to wait more than 30 minutes for the pedicure to start. The pedicure was very fast and not good. Barely trimmed my toenails and cuticles. The owner was rude to me. This salon has a habit of calling their White customers before their African American customers. The African American customer will be in the salon before the White customer. The tech at the front table will come to the front and ask the White customer to sit in a certain chair. The tech will ask who came in first, well why sign in on the kiosk, The owner came to me personally and asked to come back the next day, because it was 5:00 and it would take them 2 hours to finish the customers they had in the salon because of COVID-19. When I walked out of the door he waited on a White woman and her daughter. The White daughter wanted a gel manicure and I wanted a gel manicure. The other White customers did not leave out of the door with me. When I questioned the owner about it, then he came up with they had an appointment. Not true. The White mother came through the door asking could they do a child's gel manicure she said nothing about an appointment at that time. I watched that salon for 1 hour and 15 minutes and every White customer went through those doors stayed in the salon. 3 times I had to ask them about their practices. First time was about waiting on customers who entered the salon after me (White customers), second time was when a tech was going to use equipment that was not sterilized. All he did was smear some alcohol on them. I did not let him touch me. Third time was today when the owner asked me to come back tomorrow, but all the White customers stayed and kept coming in after I walked out of the salon door. Worst salon I have been to in Trussville. I told the tech I did NOT want dip powder not once, but 5 times. She then cut my nails too short, and made them look like blocks. Her husband (assumption) tried his best to fix them, but they are a mess. They are too short, and have no shape to them. I came to this Salon once before and had no issues, but this time was awful. I so badly just wanted to get out of there even before they were finished. I feel that the lady that did my nails must have been an owner because she was directing the flow of traffic in the salon. First and last time today at Pro Top Nails. I typically go to another nail salon down the road from this salon, but I had been sweetly gifted a gift certificate from someone for this salon. I got a basic pedicure (my gift certificate amount) and a manicure, and while the pedicure was satisfactory (the massage was amazing, though) the manicurists (someone different from the pedicurist) did a very sloppy job on my manicure, which took less than 15 minutes (about 1/3rd of the time that my regular place spends on my manicure). I don't do anything special (gel, acrylic, etc) but just always prefer a basic manicure and the tech seemed to be annoyed that I didn't want gel. She then very hurriedly rushed through the job (doing a lousy job on my cuticles and nail prep, which is such a big part of a great manicure) and didn't even condition or massage my hands like my regular place does. Honestly, it took her about 1/3rd-1/2 of the time to do my manicure than the place I normally go to. While I am very grateful for the free pedicure I received (via the gift certificate), I will not return here again. In all, the price is $13 more for a pedicure/manicure than what I normally spend. First, I never post negative reviews, but this was over the top. This was a very expensive service for me. The male that greeted my daughter and I was very nice, but the female nail tech looked like she was mad at the world, barely spoke two words, and was very rough removing my polish (I am a tough girl, no sissy here) and seemed annoyed when I asked her to shape my nails. She left them rough on the edges, but I did not say anything, I just wanted to get away from her. She did a terrible job on my manicure likely due to the rough scraping and handling. The male did my daughter's nails and talked casually to us both while his female counterpart roughed me up and scowled. Two other ladies did our pedicures (thank goodness) and they did a very nice job and were pleasant and friendly. The big surprise was when I paid, a whopping $168.00 for two of us plus a $10 tip to the ladies that did our pedicures! I am not sure what cost so much, I did get gel polish, my daughter got full set dipping powder. We have never been charged this much at other salons and have never had such an encounter with a rude nail tech. If she doesn't like working with people, maybe she needs to do something else.
