Ten Eyck Brown who also built The Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta, GA. It's one of few surviving buildings in Georgia that was built using marble from the area. (I believe the marble is from Tate, Ga) If you look up you can see four eagles above the column thingies and they were sculpted by two local sculptures David A.H. Couche and B. Maloni. It's an impressive structure with it's gleaming white marble and it's formidable presence. I almost expect a bunch of men walking out of in white robes speaking Latin....it looks like it belongs in Athens, Greece... It's located in downtown historic Canton not far from the Historic Canton Cannon Park. Next to the courthouse is the Cherokee Justice Center as well as the superior court. It now houses the Cherokee County History museum and visitor center. It a pretty cool building to check out for a photo opt. If you're ever in the area.

There is a lot of parking in the garage and an elevator to take you to the right floor. I was grateful to the other kind ladies that gave me directions. I went thru security quickly. Stood in line to check in. All really smooth and efficient. Big room with lots of screens to update you on information. Although I was selected for a judges trial, the case never came to fruition and we were cut loose just before lunch. I made $30. Excellent.

I was summoned to jury duty on tuesday, and I had to get there by 8am. If you are reporting to this…read moreplace for jury duty, don't forget your yellow card that comes in the mail. There is security at the entrance, so they will ask you to pull out all your electronics out of your bag to put in a basket that goes through a machine. You get cleared, and you proceed to go up the escalators to the assembly room where you check in, and wait. (Make sure to check in every day that you go in, so they know that you were there). The staff were all friendly with happy-go-lucky faces at 8 in the morning. Once you check in, they tell you where to sit to wait for your bailiffs. There was coffee in the back, and magazines to look at on the right hand side of the room. The projector screen at the front of the room has a few slides playing on repeat about what to expect and how much you will be compensated. Here in gwinnett county, it's $30 per day, that comes after a couple weeks in the form of a debit card. Around 9am, we were assigned seating arrangements, and I got seated one seat to the left (I guess I got lucky, haha). Anyway, we waited another hour or so before we were called into the courtroom. There were about 40 of us, and they only choose ~12 people for the jury. The attorneys asked everyone general questions, then asked individuals specific questions, which took forever. We took a 15 min break where we went back to the assembly room/used the restrooms/ etc. Then went back in around 11:50am. The attorneys continued to asked questions til 12:30pm, where we took our 1 hr lunch break. I ate something in the cafeteria downstairs which ill review as well. Back to the court room, they ended up only asking 28/40 people individual questions because they had already had an idea of who to choose to be in their jury. They took 30-40 min to decide the final 12. Those who were not chosen went back to the assembly room, and got dismissed. By the time I left, it was already ~3pm. Before, if you were dismissed from jury duty from one panel, they would have you wait for the next panel to open up, but as of recently, if you get dismissed from the first panel, you are done for the rest of the week. You wont be summoned for jury duty for another two to three years. Hooray! We are all great citizens. All in all, minus the waiting, this was a great experience, and I hope to be selected to be part of a jury one day. The building smelled like the airport, and was really nice and neat. There were restrooms everywhere, so dont worry about not being able to find one. On a side note: if youre like me and you forgot to call in before jury duty and missed a day, you can just call to reschedule. But dont miss it on purpose. I literally forgot til the day of. I am paying a false garnishment because of a debt collection company that said they were collecting…read morefor one of my previous creditors. The creditor refused to speak to me saying that it has it went to collections while knowing that debt is not collectible in Texas if it's over 7 years. During the pandemic when no one was able to work, I a law firm was paid to handle my debts, but they are no longer in business. The court is claiming that they are collecting for Fayette County, but I didn't receive any notice from them of a pending garnishment. In fact, one of the matters went to court and was dismissed because the attorney didn't show up. My friends are saying that the judge was paid and with all the corruption I keep seeing come from Fulton County, I don't doubt it.

In my teenage years, me and the court system didn't quite get along, and the people that worked in these places are horrible. I have always wondered why government employees act like their lives are so miserable. But not this place. Even the security personnel were very nice. Good Ol Southern Gentlemen. When I was going through the metal detectors, I had to put back all my earrings and necklace, and it took me a while. One of the guys stood there the whole time holding my purse. They teased me until I came back out and called me "Pretty Lady with the Red Purse." Well, that was a kind thing to say! I came in to fill out my paper work. Make sure you have your county issued Driver's License. If it is issued by a different county, then you have to go there. I cant remember the exact price but I think it was around $40. Then you wait for the Judge's secretary to come take your picture. Then you have to get a money order for about $50 (they will tell you the exact amount) and go get your background check and fingerprints. Now, around here, the best place to do it is down the road. There is a UPS store that processes the fingerprinting and a Kroger where you can get your money order. The whole process was about an hour and a half and the only thing that made it even that long is because there was a line at the UPS. I waited a week and Voila! I am now a responsible gun carrying citizen of America.

Since that time we've had four separate visits from the code office. All of these visits were to reiterate codes that we were already complying with. This last visit they decided to leave a warning saying they're going to issue a citation for something at the Officer at our home. Two days Prior had told me it was within the code and is clearly stated as such. We completely regret moving to this city and it's clear they don't want new residents. Get your code office under control. The whole city is not an HOA.

I was misled by everyone I spoke with, regarding getting the bond money I paid for my daughter…read moreback. I was told I had to come in and sign a release in order to get the money back, only to later find out that they would not be sending it back, instead they applied it to her fine. I specifically asked and was told by all 3 people that this is what I had to do in order to get the funds back. This is so disgusting, I'm literally sick to my stomach. Then they act as though they can't return it and reinstate the fine. They are TRUE criminals! I would love to know how many others they've done like this. It only takes 4 people for a class action lawsuit.

Son and I had an excellent experience on Saturday's passport day. It was so convenient to be able…read moreto go this Saturday as after school activities make it hard to find time to take care of important business. I saw several other families with their kids getting passports. We showed up at 8:29 am and the staff was already working to help people. They had us start outside the courthouse at a table where staff made sure all our paperwork was in order, check was written to State Department, and cash was ready for the fee. We even swore our oath outside and had my son sign the paperwork outside. After completing this quick step at 8:30 am, we went through the security lane, and went down the elevator in the social building to the ground floor. We waited our turn at a table (five tables were available and we were number one). After 5 minutes, it was our turn to go to the staff and this took about 5 minutes. All the staff was professional and kind. We were driving home by 8:50 am, and I had planned up to 10 am or more, so the entire process was stress free and well organized with plenty of staff. When we left, there was even a table set up to register voters. Kudos DeKalb County Superior Court for organizing this helpful event!
