I am paying a false garnishment because of a debt collection company that said they were collecting for one of my previous creditors. The creditor refused to speak to me saying that it has it went to collections while knowing that debt is not collectible in Texas if it's over 7 years. During the pandemic when no one was able to work, I a law firm was paid to handle my debts, but they are no longer in business. The court is claiming that they are collecting for Fayette County, but I didn't receive any notice from them of a pending garnishment. In fact, one of the matters went to court and was dismissed because the attorney didn't show up. My friends are saying that the judge was paid and with all the corruption I keep seeing come from Fulton County, I don't doubt it. read more

Without his assistance, I would've still been wandering around. So, if you need the legal department for business purposes (like filing a DBA/trade name), go to the ground floor (G). If you're a resident of Georgia and want to get married in-state, you can go to any probate court to pick up your marriage license. I chose to get our license at the Fulton County Probate Court main office in downtown Atlanta because it was the closest place for us to get a license. That and I wanted to go to *the* main courthouse in the city. It's interesting to check out every once in a while. The last time I visited was approximately 18 years ago for traffic court. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the streets downtown have been relatively empty. That was the case for us last week during our visit. I was able to find street parking easily one block behind the court on MLK Jr Dr SW. I recommend using the ParkMobile app to pay for and monitor your parking. It's convenient and easy. No kiosks or cards to deal with. You can take care of everything on your phone. I paid $2.30 for one hour of parking. Zone #51024. There are public decks you can park in nearby as well (I've parked there before too). Also due to COVID-19, the court's hours of operations and service offerings have been limited. Fulton Country tries to keep current hours and service changes updated on their website at https://www.fultoncountyga.gov/, but it's not always accurate. For example, the latest hours we saw posted for the probate court due to the pandemic were Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:00pm. However, when I called to confirm the court's hours, I was told they were actually closing at 2:00pm instead of 3:00pm. If I were you, I'd call ahead to confirm hours and ask any other questions you might have to save you time and any potential hassle in person. The day of our visit, I called shortly before 9:00am to confirm open hours and where to park. Someone answered the phone on the first or second ring and was able to answer my questions. For parking, they suggested the spots I described above (paid street or deck parking). The probate court is located inside the big courthouse building at the corner of MLK and Pryor. The front of the building says "Lewis R. Salton Courthouse." At the time, there was a bunch of scaffolding set up because work was being done to the exterior. It's a nice-looking courthouse building, like one of those you see in the movies or on a TV show like The Wire. The courthouse lobby is heavily secured. There were several security guards and we had to go through a TSA-like checkpoint to enter. We had to put our belongings in a container and placed them on a conveyor belt so they could be scanned. We had to walk through a metal detector and get wanded. The probate court is located on the second floor. While the courthouse looks nice on the outside, the inside is about what one would expect of a public government building: old, drab, well-worn and complete with that stale, library sort of smell. There was a mishmash of signs posted everywhere, made particularly more busy because of notices related to the pandemic. These government offices could really use a nice makeover from a good interior designer. But yeah, that's public agency for you. We arrived to the marriage license counter at 10:00am on a Wednesday and were walking out the door, with marriage license in hand, at 10:32am. Pretty fast. There was no one ahead of us, but two couples did come in after us. There was only one lady handling all the marriage licenses. You could tell she's had to repeat the same instructions to many couples. All my fiancee and I had to do was fill out and sign one sheet - the marriage license application - with some pretty basic information. After that, we had to give the employee our driver's licenses and our social security numbers (we wrote them down on a slip of paper for her). After that, we had to raise our right hands and say yes, the information we had provided was true. She then gave us a "probate court receipt/charge form" for $77 which I paid using my credit card with one of two cashiers at the front payment windows. After paying, we returned to the marriage license counter where the employee handed us our stamped and signed marriage license. The license was signed by both a clerk and judge of the probate court. All we have to do now is get an officiant to marry us, fill out and sign the license, and mail it back to the probate court. That will be done today, May 30, 2020! The employee told us to expect two copies of our marriage certificate about 2-3 weeks (maybe longer due to COVID) after they receive our completed license. Overall, it's a pretty simple process to get married, at least through Fulton County, Georgia. The basic fee for the marriage license was $56. Certified copies of the marriage certificate were $10 each (the employee recommended we order two for various reasons so we did) and there was an extra $1 tacked on which I think was the application fee. $56 + $10 + $10 + $1 = $77. In the end, the process of applying and paying for our marriage license at Fulton County Probate Court was smooth and easy. read more

Horrible Customer Service!! A courthouse wedding should be stress free. I've been trying for weeks to book a 30 min private ceremony via the website. Checking everyday on the hour. The calendar never opens up via the online portal. My fiancé watched as the calendar went from no availability until March 16th to no availability until March 23rd as the clock struck midnight Monday morning on separate phones. You call and they can give you no information other than check the calendar daily. Horrible horrible people!! Bad customer service! No one has any answers or are helpful!! I had to appear in Courtroom G33 the other day. I was very impressed how the judge & her staff worked so well together to move through the case loads. The judge was a very fair jurist & worked hard to provide one young man with as much leniency as she could. It was amazing how many people didn't show up for their cases & can be served bench warrants for being no-shows. I had to plead guilty to charges against me but I deserved them.ost people want to badmouth our court system but I guess they believe Donnie Trump is treated unfairly even though he doesn't obey any laws himself. Deserves a review of zero! The Fulton county Probate website clearly states that the North Fulton probate court location is open for " marriage & weapons carry licenses only" as of 3:00 P.M. April 27, 2021 this location was closed and posted as "permanently closed". Trying to control the right to bear arms is one thing (unconstitutional) ... to prohibit the ability to obtain a marriage license is a disgrace on the officials and employees of Fulton County. read more

The experience of applying for a marriage license should be easy, stress free and a joyful event. The staff at the Fulton County Probate Court go out of their way to make it a miserable experience. Rude, non-existent customer service. Just because you have the power does not mean you should be rude to those who are literally paying your bills. If you do not want to work with the public, you should find a job that does not require it. There are multiple offices within a big building with no directional information until you get to the floor. A help desk or information board in the lobby would be helpful. Finally...all forms should be found online and available to print before arriving at the office. It would make the process move much more quickly. Do better Fulton County! read more

It's the government and the government thrives on bureaucracy. Complaining about it is like complaining about the weather. It's what it is and everyone has to suffer through it. However, a little pre-research did me wonders when 1) I got my marriage license and 2) I got my concealed firearms license. Yes, Atlanta , you get both of these at the same place. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition! When I got married, it was a bit disorganized there. You're asked to complete paperwork (like question 5, "Are the bride and groom related?") Once you receive your paperwork, you're asked to "please move to the side of the room." However, once you complete the paperwork, you expect to be called again. Nope. Get back in line, Bucko. Then you have to pay the cashier to get a receipt. Then back in line. Sorry, if getting married were easy, they'd be letting the gays do it too. Make sure you bring your identifying info. I can't remember exactly what was required since my now wife did all the research. I do remember bringing my passport (fitting since I was now traveling to Throwsocksontheflooratyourownriskistan.) We submitted our documents and had to raise our right hands to swear we weren't related and such. The clerk signed it and presto! we were married! Sort of. I wanted to take a picture of cameras aren't allowed in the courthouse. Despite the fact that we're in Georgia , most of the folks in line were there to get their marriage license and not their gun license. It's kind of cool to see all the couples there, some even dressed up for the occasion. (Me, being the romantic that I am, wore a clean t-shirt. At least I think it was clean.) The process for a firearms license (for Fulton Co at least) requires a bit more kabuki. First, make sure you bring $20.44 in cash. Also, get a $40 money order to be used later. Also, try not to wear a shirt that says "Kill my landlord" on it or something. Complete the paperwork that's available on the front desk. Give it to the nice lady and she'll ask you to go to the cashier to pay your $20.44. (The 44 cents is for the stamp to mail you your license.) Give her the receipt as proof of purchase and she'll complete it. Then she'll give you MORE paperwork to give to the Fulton County PD. Now walk across the street to the Fulton Co. PD office. Sign in and tell them you're there to be fingerprinted. Lucky for me the wait to be printed wasn't long. It still took 30 minutes. You're printed and processed. The nice lady there will tell you "90 days." It remains to be seen if that will be the case. As far as governmental agency work is concerned, I'll go ahead and give it 3.5 stars. I'll round up to 4 (for now) pending the timely receipt of my firearms license. read more

I really hate going into big buildings that severe multiple purposes and don't have a help desk of some sort or are not organized. I came here yesterday for a friend who was getting married (Yay). Upon entering the building you have to go through a metal detector and guards which I didn't mind. I asked if there was some kind or directory the guard told me no and was unhelpful. I found someone else who was able to direct me to the correct floor that I needed to be. When j found the room that I was suppose to be in it was over crowded and a lot of people were standing. Even the people who were getting married had no where to sit. They officer ended up sending some of us to another room because it was just to many people. The process was suppose to start at 2:30pm. It didn't start until 3:45pm. The entire thing was really unorganized in my opinion. I give this place 3 stars. read more

Marriage License Review So inefficient and takes longer than it should. There should be a way you can fill it out online before you arrive so that when you arrive they just look up your name, and move on with the process. There should even be a place to fill it out electronically in the office. They are too particular with handwriting and the written application to still be using this portion. My fiance and I came in to get a marriage license. We were told to take our time because many people fill it out incorrectly. We took our time and tried to hand in the application. They said because a letter was crossed out we couldnt use it. We finished another application and Then we were told because the number of our address was too close to the street name it was incorrect. We finished another application and then we were told that because we had filled in the license number at the top right (which is for office use only but it doesnt say that anywhere), we had to fill it out again. She also added "if you don't do it correctly this time I will have to send you to the back of the line." It was a waste of time and added on about 30-40 mins to the process. If they had given out clear instructions about what is and isn't allowed on the sheet of paper FROM THE START, we wouldn't have had to fill out the application 60 times. I'm not sure why they felt it was better to tell us 1 error at a time leading to us fill out the application so many times. Everything was very clearly written so I also have no idea why they are so particular about these tiny things. So to anyone reading this, when you fill out the marriage license application make sure you have enough space in between each of your words. Make sure you don't cross anything out or write over a letter if you make a mistake. Also if you dont understand a portion of the application its better to leave it blank then to fill it out and have them send you back to fill out another application. read more

Eventually she just stopped responding to me. I am trying to obtain a copy of my marriage certificate. I sent all the necessary items asked of me. It's been over a week and haven't gotten my copy and now can't get in touch with anyone. Beware of Bonnie Mayes. I don't think she likes to work. The receptionist is no help either. This only applies to the Fulton County Government Probate Court licensing division. I applied for a firearms permit a little over a month ago, after my previous one expired while I was living out of the country. The wait time wasn't too bad before speaking to a lady seated behind the counter, maybe 15 minutes. The process ran smoothly, as I did my research on what exactly what was required these days to get the permit (still too much hassle for a constitutionally protected right, but that's another story). An applicant can either give them a self-addressed stamped envelope for permit delivery, or can come back in and pick it up when it's ready (so I'm told). I opted to go back in, as I heard too many stories about permits somehow getting lost in the mail. The lady there told me to call in about 90 days. That was a big change from the 4 weeks it took mine to arrive previously. When paying for the permit, the cashier told me 90 days was a bit much and that I should try calling after thirty days. This is where I really don't understand Fulton County. They DO NOT answer their phones. I have tried over 20 times to call for information on my permit (to two numbers provided by them) and have never been able to speak to a human. Just the same recording over and over, so I press '0' in hopes of an operator, and the Cisco system tells me to hold over and over and over again. No one ever picks up. So, I'm going to have to make a trip there to check on a permit that I pretty much guarantee isn't going to be ready. Time away from work, mileage, parking...it's a farce to think that these employees work for us. (I've always had the same problem with the Fulton County Motor Vehicle Division - they never answer their phones. It might be proper and save taxpayers money to remove the entire phone system that isn't being used.) On a side note, as I was applying for my permit, I saw a furious couple from China be told by a Fulton County employee that their marriage wasn't recognized in the US and that they'd have to get divorced and then married again here. When the husband (yes, I recognize their marriage) became irate and dared to question the employee, she replied, "Excuse me, do you work for the government? I WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT!" Came here with my fiancé to get our marriage license. The clerk was pretty stern and cold upon our arrival and commanded us so coldly to get the "form behind us and fill it out with blue or black ink without any mistakes"... I was taken aback honestly. But since we came for a marriage license and wasn't leaving without one, the fiancé and I played by her reindeer games. Once we filled it out (we had to start all the way over by the way because I signed my name in the incorrect spot... sigh), we handed it in to her. At that point, the clerk seemed to garner more of a personality and seemed to be somewhat lighthearted. She even congratulated us on our upcoming nuptials. Super quick and odd contrast of events (we were super confused) but we went with it. With and accurate marriage license in tow, we took a quick selfie in the lobby to commemorate the moment and exited... Hopefully (I really pray not) never to return again. well its five months now which was suppose to be ninety days at most . the finger prints were signed out for but was lost and person who signed for them was on vacation. After vacation she was on sick leave. twenty phone calls later with NO calls back a new set of finger prints were sent from sandy springs police dept and no returned call, just recordings . this is a perfect example of why government has no business in business, just look at our V. A. system for our troops a bunch of run around and recordings.
