Believe the Yelp reviews - this company is the worst company you can choose! This was a clean-up project for a hoarder, which they claim to specialize in. During a pre-inspection to develop a pricing bid, I told them they needed to be prepared with hazmat suits and respirator, like what I was wearing. The day of the project, the crew arrived late which wasn't a good start. They had no hazmat gear, so I supplied them with my personal face masks. A weak substitute for hazmat suite and respirator. They were given specific instructions on what should be removed and not touched. I had to do a lot of heavy lifting myself (I'm a 70-year-old woman) because one of the workers had a bad arm. When I returned to the garage to take a break from what I was doing, I discovered the workers had loaded materials on the truck that they were specifically instructed NOT to touch. I caught the mistake (at least I think I found everything that was not supposed to be removed), but it slowed down the work -- for which I was billed. It got worse: I returned inside the house to find a worker walking around, going into the backyard and wandering room-to-room. I then saw him pick up confidential papers from a desk and examine them. I told him to put them down and that he was being disrespectful. I told him 3 times he was being disrespectful, expecting an apology. None came! This is the company that says that specialize in hoarding situations?? I pulled to crew chief aside and told her to remove him immediately from the premises. They were supposed to clean a bathroom but told me they forgot to bring cleaning supplies. I gave them materials that I had on hand, but frankly, they didn't do much cleaning. I could list many more issues, including the billing, but you get the picture. I have never written a Yelp review - positive or negative. However, ProClaim was so terrible that I have to warn others - do NOT use them! Despite offering to adjust my bill after sending a long email with the terrible service they provided, no adjustment was made. Looking for an alternative? For the second phase of my clean-up project, I hired ServPro. They were AMAZING. Not only did they come equipped and do a professional job, at one point they had a safety specialist arrive to ensure the workers were wearing protective gear. I am sooooo upset. I can't write anything. it's a total chaos. no one is responsible for anything. their people were 45-60 minutes late for appointments. No one is available over the phone or physically in the office. Arrogant and dishonest company. all of them. I don't recommend it to anyone, whether you are a sub-contractor, an insurance broker or a direct client. They will rip you off your time, your money, and your resources. My experience with ProStar has been worse than terrible. They have been working on my insurance water damage claim for going on 2 years, and the project still hasn't been completed. Six (6) project managers have worked on my job, and 4 of them resigned on short notice and vanished into the night with no notice or communication. It must be a miserable place to work? I observe that they are overwhelmed and understaffed, but the PM team's collective communication and professionalism was unbelievably unacceptable as a group. On multiple occasions, after weeks of zero communication, I would reach out to ProStar only to find out that the PM no longer worked for the company and that my file was being reassigned. I can't believe that ProStar is even a profitable company based on the total inefficiency of their approach, and the amount of rework that they had to perform due to shoddy workmanship and poor quality trades. On numerous occasions, I had to step in to self perform or subcontract work because of the lack of follow through, the inability to source in house or subcontract crews, lack of communication and organisation, poor workmanship, inattention to schedule and deadline commitments, and on and on. The last PM was able to get a few of the punch list items done that I was chasing for 14 months, by hiring a competent sub contract carpenter. I wish I would have ran into that guy directly a year ago! The PM finally seemed to give up on the remaining punch list items, and so I just stepped in and hired subcontractors to finish up the work. ProStar never reached out, followed up, or seemed to care if my job ever got finished! I feel like I was driving the whole process, and by the end I was actually relieved to step in as my own general contractor and Project Manager, and deal with my insurance company directly, so that I wouldn't have to deal with the complete incompetence and perpetual state of delay which is the experience of working with ProStar. None of the last 4 project managers at ProStar had the courtesy or professionalism to even simply update the estimate for the job for my insurance company. I am dumbfounded as to how ProStar was listed as a preferred supplier by my insurance company. I wish I would have seen the other reviews in this space before I had the misfortune to work with ProStar on my repairs. Is there any way to give a zero star recommendation on this forum? The only bright spots here which enabled any successful outcome at my house was the good fortune to work with 3 very capable subcontractors: Bill the independent carpenter, Jason at Vibe Interiors, and the team at Thuro Mechanical. read more

BC My condo hired prostar from Calgary for restoration of damage to my apartment and the apartment below mine in 2020. There was very poor communication ( I was ultimately the paying customer), and very very slow. I had only a couple days worth of work in my apartment but it took over two months and my tenants had had to move out, so they just left. They quoted ( for the insurance company) all sorts of things they didn't have to do - ie removing the radiator cover, having a plumber disconnect the dishwasher ( was not done and didn't need to be done as that part of the floor not replaced) . They were also so slow to finish, and I decided to put it up for sale, so I finished the painting - but they still charged for it. The apartment below had vinyl plank and there was actually no damage to it ( you can lift the necessary ones up to check if dry beneath as I did that in mine without breaking them) but they charged for replacing the entire floor - so kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms. I salvaged the plank and used it in my house as it wasn't damaged. I wasn't impressed with their communication, timeliness, or integrity. read more

This company is a sham. That's putting it nicely. We contacted this company for a house cleaning and they cut corners like crazy. They didn't dust and left dust residue everywhere. They didn't clean the bathrooms didn't vacuum the carpets properly. We asked them to move the carpets and clean underneath and they did not do that. The end result was that we refused to pay until they cleaned properly. They cleaned properly the second time because we had to watch them. Stay away! read more

I had water seep into the basement and cover an area on the carpet about the size of a couch. I called prostar cleaning and restoration to come take care of it. They ripped out the underlay that was affected, sprayed a disinfectant for mold then set up a couple carpet fans and dehumidifier to dry it up. They also cleaned the water stains on the carpet but that only made the stains larger and more prominent. After they were done they gave me an $800 bill... I need a new carpet and underlay. Cleaning and restoration is just a name in this case. Their prices are simply ridiculous. $250 just to show up, and another $500 just to put the fans there and turn them on. (I could've bought one of the fans new for $180) Also, at the end of these outrageous charges they also have the nerve to ding you an additional 20% on the total for overhead and profit !!!! (Like they didn't make any money else where) If you have a flood or any water damage do what I should have done: Rent the equipment (Rogers Rent-All or any other place), the whole deal would cost you no more than a couple hundred dollars, and you'd probably do a better job yourself. read more

I had the unfortunate experience of having ProStar Cleaning and Restoration through the recommendation of my insurance company do a restoration job for me after I had a dishwasher leak in one of my suites. Everything started out well; the clean-up crew came in right away to dry the place out and then the crew that did the abatement was equally efficient. That's when the nightmare began. It was over three weeks after the abatement crew was finished before I got any word as to what was going to happen. In the meantime, my tenant was without a kitchen for six weeks. TAU (Tresta) Construction was used to do the rebuild and the service I got from them was horrible. They would show up here and there hardly ever letting me know when they were going to show up. The two principle contractors were very different in their work. T1 was slower than molasses on a cold winter's night but he did do acceptable work. The 2nd T was very sloppy in his delivery and to this day, I am still finding paint on my property. It's like he never heard of a drop sheet to protect furniture, carpet, kitchen appliances etc. Overall, a job that should have taken a couple of weeks ended up taking over three months to complete. The other disappointing aspect of this is that the Project Manager was absent and did not communicate very well with me. He also made promises that were not kept. The accounting department also needs and improvement as it took them over 5 months to finally bill me for my deductible and were originally aggressive until they realized that I had not been issued any invoice. Overall, I would give ProStar 2 out of 10 for the work that they did and my experience. My advice to anyone thinking of using either ProStar or TAU (Tresta) Construction is to find some other option! read more

My condo was one of several condos that had water damage from a leaking pipe. Prostar were chosen as the vendor by the property management company to carry out the restoration work. I had an awful experience with them. Their unresponsiveness​ was the biggest annoyance, lack of urgency, and inability to consider the situation I as a homeowner is in. I explained that i had a tenant and I need to manage that situation professionally because I'm a good landlord, in essence I too have a business to run. They put me at risk and I lost my tenant. The damages occurred in June and the work didn't get completed until December. There wasn't a lot of damage to my property, they were so awful at communicating that it took six months to do the floors. They said they would work with my tenant to notify him when they would access the place, they didn't and showed up without notifying him. My tenant came home from work to find his place in a state where he couldn't even walk in the door, let alone sleep there. My tenant called me fuming. No wonder he moved out. Fast forward to now... another condo leaked and there was some water that had to be dealt with in my unit. The same project manager, Alain, is in charge. I emailed him three times and did not receive a response. I emailed asking about the extent of the damage and notified him i had a new tenant about to move in and needed to know so I could inform him....seems like a reasonable question that deserves an answer. No reply. I spoke with the facilities person in my building, she said there was no damage as far as she knew. From what I could tell there appeared to be no damage in the condo itself. Now, I have received a notification that they are ready to start working on my condo?! I have not been notified of any damages, I don't see any damages...I have no idea what's going on over at pro star but the project manager is not really a project manager, just a warm body. This has to be the most unethical and fraudulent Company in all of Alberta! They were the General Contractor hired to complete the work on our building after a devastating fire. Right from week 1, their incompetence and complete lack of communication became crystal clear! Seeing as they are in this business, one would think they would have a clear communication strategy and qualified competent people working there. This could not be further from the truth! If I were to list all the issues this would become an essay. To summarize, ProStar's incompetence is now costing owners of this building 10s of 1000s of dollars because they are denying liability for their mistakes. As the General Contractor they are responsible for their work and the work of any Subs they hire. Owners did not live here at the time the mistakes were being made so it is clearly not our fault but we are being left with the bill. Incompetence is one thing but add in denying and lying about your incompetence and this is a recipe for disaster. Sadly, this disaster for us is now causing people to sell their condos at substantial losses. $$ that is unlikely to be recovered in a reasonable time frame. Dont think all restoration companies charge you for their quote, regardless if you choose to go with that company. These people will take your $250 (for 10 min and a couple pictures) and then give you a very expensive quote. But they keep your $250 regardless. They have a good scheme going, too bad I fell for it. We had are carpets cleaned when we moved out of our rental and it was an awful job. We rented a carpet cleaner and recleaned the carpets are selfs with a way better results. Would not recommend carpet cleaning services. If your thinking of using ProStar to clean your carpets , just go rent your own carpet cleaner and do it yourself read more

This company has been working on my condo building for an entire year now after a fire and it's nothing but disappointments and frustrations. They do very sloppy work and try to save money at every turn. The site manager here is extremely condescending when you address problems with him. I had a water leak in my wall for a month, asking under the floor, because when I first adviced them the floor was lifting, they told me "You must have spilled the doggy dish" and walked away. He is extremely condescending and rude. I have put in my recommendation to the board and to the Condo boards insurance company that we do not use ProStar ever again. I am currently dealing with Prostar as a result of a water leak in my condo. They were hired by my property management company to come inspect and fix the cause of the water leak. Its been three months now and Prostar has gotten nowhere with fixing anything. After they completed a number of "inspections" that caused even more damage to my condo, they sent my property management company a hefty quote to repair the damages they created, without including any quotes to actually fix the issue that is causing the leak in the first place. The whole company is a scam to overcharge and underperform on the work. Their staff are unprofessional, unqualified and their project managers don't have a clue. I would agree with every bad review on here of this company and would recommend any individuals and condo boards to stay away from choosing them for any cleaning or restoration projects. read more

ProStar* was a contact given to me by a friend in Canmore. We have two back to back properties and one had bathroom issues. Living in Sherwood Park, I knew I was going to need someone I could trust on the ground and from our first meeting with Cyd Fraser, I knew this was going to be my choice. At the end of our initial walk through, I watched closely as Cyd explained this is a larger project than replacing a leaky toilet. Okay, I knew that but what I could not appreciate then was, this was going to require a close working relationship with someone with which I would be separated by 401kms. The first estimates included the mark-up that I was going to be paying ProStar*. Some may not like that but that information is just as vital as deciding what fixtures to install. So we entered into a relationship built concretely on texts, email, texts, quotes, texts, approvals and texts. One month into the project, I am embarrassed to say that I stopped reading all of the in depth reports Cyd sent because well, she is just to good for that kind of oversight. At somewhere south of $140,000, our project may have been larger than some but I was about to find out how ProStar* handles emergencies. As the homes were waiting for my Canmore visit for my final walk through, the basement sewer backed up in one of the houses. By the time Cyd had me on the phone she already had a crew on the way and repair and remediation were covered by my sending an email approval. The back-up was a result of shoddy work done on behalf of our insurance company following the Canmore floods. They would argue it was not their fault but when your insurance provider tells you they guarantee their work, please try not to laugh loudly. Comparing their quotes on one of the emergencies we had, the insurance company and their selected trades were definitely cheaper. But ProStar* included not only removal of items that were damaged but, removal from the yard to landfill. Is that something that insurers even need to check up on? The insurance company handling the flood issue, replaced the furnace, washer, dryer and hot water tank. I know because they were left behind in the basement for us to deal with. Thank-you to ProStar* for cleaning up what they left behind. Cheaper is never better when you read the fine lines. Where to begin. This company was hired to restore our condominium after a water leak inside the walls. My toilet was completely non-functional and It took more than a week just to get a response from them, which only happened after I had sent an email to them, the landlord and the property management board as well. After that another week went by with no contact from them. The whole job was catastrophic, plagued with delays and accidents and the job took several months longer than anyone expected. At one point in time they asked me to vacate my house for four days, of course they gave me less than a days notice but I did it none the less. Four days later I contacted them asking if I was able to return home. They told me the contractor forgot to ask for my house key and they hadn't even begun working on it. I gave them the key and four days later I contacted them again and they told me it would take at least a week more. The job lasted months upon months and it quickly became apparent this company is incredibly mismanaged and unprepared. To top it all off, in the end they installed my toilet paper roll holder wrong and didn't even install handles on my bathroom cupboard. It's been months later and I'm still working to fix the 'repairs' they did. NOTE TO HOMEOWNERS OUT THERE: Do not use this company! They were extremely incompetent and unprofessional, any criticisms myself and the other tenants had were met with hostility and rudeness. read more

We had a broken pipe in our finished basement. Prostar responded very quickly to do the initial cleanup. Customer communication was excellent throughout the process. We did have an issue with the quality of the restoration work. However, upon notifying Prostar of the problem they reacted very quickly and resolved the issue to our satisfaction in a very timely manner. The Prostar team were very professional and easy to communicate with. We are left extremely satisfied with our restoration and are highly impressed by the caring and respect we were shown by every member of the Prostar team that we were in contact with. We did not have a very good experience with Prostar. Their first cleaning (trial run) was great. They seemed to be very good, but four cleanings later and the courtship ended. We had them on a weekly basis and each week, something was added to the forget to do pile. They still seemed to cash the cheques though even after 2 complaints of things not being done. Their cleaning was sub par at best and several things missed each week. read more

I had water back up in Nov 1 which came from a main pipe in my building. The restoration was therefore handled by my property management through prostar. I have yet to have my place restored. Dealing with this company is without a doubt the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I had to initiate all phone calls and when someone did respond I was treated with complete disrespect and talked to with such condescension I could barely believe it. Appointments were late, missed, I even had two plumbers come for one job and was later told by the representative that it was my fault and I would be paying for the plumber because I had "misheard her". They brought in flooring transition strips that did not match my current flooring and asked if it was okay. I kindly said no, and have yet to have the new transition stripes put in. Prostar would show up 2 hours late to appointments, not return calls when I inquired on where they were, and would readily expect me to be available later in the day to take an appointment ( I work during the day - like everyone else in this world, its not easy to make appointments between the hours of 8-4 monday-friday. Especially when no one shows up.) This does not even begin to cover the amount of issues that came up while trying to deal with this company (and still deal with as 3 months later we have not come to a resolution). Lastly, I was even told that I would be held liable for the damage because I did not call in soon enough, luckily I documented the calls and had proof that I called immediately and that the problem was that I was just not addressed by anyone within the company in a timely manner.
