However, I still love the characters and thought I'd pop in to see what's new since I stopped reading. I caught the owner at a moment when he had to care for a personal issue, as he was explaining to a customer that he had to step a way for a bit soon. I told him to feel free to kick me out and close the shop, I'm just there out of curiosity than a need to actually buy anything. I told him I'm a former collector. He insisted I stay and browse the comics and even take my time to read. I could mind the shop for him and just let anyone who comes in while he's away know that he will be back soon. I happily agreed and was a bit taken aback by his trust and kindness. He literally did leave me alone in his shop for a good 20 minutes. His is the sort of shop I preferred when I collected comics. The kind where the books are on the rack and you can flip through them a bit before you buy. This is in contrast to the stores that keep their comics bagged and you need to commit to buying before you know whether you will enjoy the storyline or the art. I don't live in the area, but if I did, I'd be a regular here. A small business definitely worth supporting.

They've moved since then, but only about 200 feet down the road. Same small shopping area. It's much more open so I do miss the stacks on top of stacks of comic books. The one lone guy in front and I chatted for quite a while. Told me the history over the last 30 years since I've just not been in. Nice sized selection, including a lot more slabs than I've seen in most comic shops. Definitely a must-stop-by if you're in the area.

After visiting nearby ZavaZone with our seven-year-old daughter, we stopped into Second Story for a few minutes, which easily turned into an hour. Every book is 50% off. We left with 15 books for just under $21. The books are well organized and maps help navigate visitors to each section, but know that the warehouse's narrow book aisles can get cramped. It adds to the appeal! There are even harder-to-find rooms with other items like posters for sale. They also sell CDs and DVDs. Staff are helpful. I lost my wallet and within an hour a staff member messaged me on Facebook letting me know they found it and it was safe at the checkout desk. If you have used books, Second Story Books buys them from people.

The shop was well organized and had so much more than just comics -- from building models to artwork by local artists. The book selection is phenomenal and even had the new Kennedy Ryan release available! The books are categorized by genre which makes it easy for shopping. They have vinyls for sale In the front of the store and in their back area. In the back is this super cute grandmas basement type setup with vintage couch seating, walls of crates of vinyls, a DJ booth AND a vinyl listening station that allows you to sample the vinyls. How cool is that?! They also have cute trinkets available such as stickers, greeting cards and pins. They even have one-of-a-kind coffee table books! And the coffee?!? WOW! It's easy to visit a bookstore and find all the feature books to be by the same people: James Patterson, Colleen Hoover, and Taylor Jenkins Reid. That's great, but what about other authors and genres?? I saw not one of the previously mentioned books (and I loved it), but instead authors and titles I'd never heard of. I ended up purchasing two titles I knew nothing about. They say never judge books by the cover? Why not? If they're beautiful, then buy them. That's what I did, and I loved both books! The selection was incredible, and certain books had blurbs written by the staff to help with your decision-making. This store has so much to offer for a variety of audiences. Give it a try next time you're in Silver Spring.
