The moment I stepped in the salon, I should have ran! She started to ask me EXTREMELY personal questions about my life (that not even colleagues or acquaintances would ask), simply butchered my eyebrows, and burned my skin with the wax. I have photos in a few weeks and I think I may have to postpone, because I cannot diarise my life with no eyebrows. I went back the same day...TWICE!! I told her that she overdid my eyebrows and that they were burning...she got defensive and said "here put this oil on" - they remained tender for the rest of the day. I went back to my hotel room later that afternoon and had a really good look at what she did - There is no way that I should pay for butchery - I went back that night and told her I was extremely unhappy and that she should compensate me. She said, "your eyebrows were a mess", "I did a good job", "take your money and go home!" - all she had to do was just be a bit more professional and accept responsibility for her mistake - but she didn't - she was combative, defensive, and pretty much said it was my problem, which has lead me to posting about my bad, bad, bad experience.

Jacob was a doll, and very talented with styling. He wasn't afraid to give me the short fringe I asked for (I am exhausted by hairdressers who refuse to do what I want (apologies for my privileged tantrum)) and was super easy to chat with, which is good, because awkward conversations are one of my most dreaded things about visits. I was stoked with my cut, so booked in for a few weeks later for the crazy colour I wanted. Had Jacob managed to achieve my dream hair, this would probably be a five star rating. He didn't quite hit the nail on the head (to be fair, it was a kind of quirky colour) but I hung out at Sfumato for FIVE HOURS that day while we got as close as we possibly could. That deserves merit (on both our parts, really) and I'm more than happy to give them another chance. Sooner rather than later, to be honest, as these mousy-brown roots are starting to become prominent...

I had just attended the Moonah Australia Post Outlet. If you are local and have used this post office in the past, you would understand that I was irate at their stupidity when I heavily stomped out of their building. Across the road I spotted Unique Barbers. It's sign yelled "NO APPOINTMENTS", but we all know that sometimes means 'no appointments but sometimes we're real busy, k, so please come back later" Already rejected once for the day, I felt up for a second when I crossed the road. To my delight, I was seated immediately. I momentarily confused the lovely lady by giving my usual instructions: "Do whatever you like as long as you make it shorter. If I hate it I'll just give myself a buzzcut later", but she quickly got to work. There was little chit chat at the seat (something I appreciate), and 20 minutes + $30 later, my hair was cut. I asked the average wait time (clearly I had been lucky), and she said 15 minutes max. They are my kind of people, and I will happily continue to give them my money when I'm not giving myself a Patented Liz-Clipper-Job (aka Buzz Cut).
