We had the best time at professor chef. We chose the meatless monday meal, something different since my boyfriend has decided to try going meatless. We arrived and the smells coming out kitchen grabbed my stomach and pulled me in. We were greeted with a glass of their own homemade wine, which was delicious. They educated us, showed us how to properly use a knife and kitchen gadets. Getting into the kitchen and cooking with them was GREAT!!! New meal ideas to use dress up boring foods! Four of us had paid for a cooking class in 2020. Unfortunately because of COVID we were unable to take the class. Approximately 2 months ago my wife finally was able to talk to someone about rescheduling. My wife was told that it would be Wednesday night at 6:30. When we arrived we were told the class was Monday. The woman claims she sent us an email reminder which we never received also she had our phone number and never called. My wife is very detailed and I believe the mistake was on the woman running the class. The woman was nasty about the situation and would not reschedule so we were out $200. I wasn't impressed with the set up in the kitchen which was very cramped. ​I would not recommend taking classes at this location. read more

Melinda and Phil were absolutely incredible. They are both super fun, personable and knowledgable! Going into it I was nervous and didn't know what to expect but they truly make you feel at home! What don't they do?! They cook, she weaves, she's a beekeper, they host an air bnb (super cute by the way) and he butchers his own meat. These two are so sweet and I cannot recommend them more. You'd regret missing out on a class with Melinda and Phil. read more

My girlfriend and I completed the "Steakhouse classics" class recently and it was phenomenal! These two really get along and have a fun vibe. Both are very knowledgeable and make the class enjoyable. They give ample opportunity for participation if desired. The food was outstanding and is a solid bang for your buck. I thought it was an excellent date night. Price wise comparable to an expensive dinner but the quality of the food is on par with that and it's definitely more fun being involved and learning a new skill. We attended a class on April 20th. Our theme was southern Italian favorites. There was 6 of us. Let me tell you we had had a great time. The food was great and our host Phill and Malinda were awesome. They make almost everything . We had some of there homemade wine. That was very good. Lots of laughs , camaraderie , a very good time. For my Birthday I had the chef come to my home for 4 of us. It was a wonderful afternoon. We learned more than the food we prepared. The Tuscan meal was heaven. When they left my friends all raved about how patience Phil was with all our questions. We were the ones actually getting into preparing the food as he instructed us through out.Also not a thing for me to do in the kitchen when they left. Oh the Apple jack cake ...I am planning to take a class in their N. Providence kitchen this summer. read more

I have taken two classes at Professor Chef, and I highly recommend the experience for a fun (and delicious) night out! Food+wine+friends+learning=a winning recipe in my book! Malinda and Phil are funny and charming hosts who encourage their guests to take a hands on approach to the lesson. Everyone gets a chance to prepare a part of the meal (with guidance and instruction) classes are organized by themes (dinner in paris, dinner in tuscany, downton abby dinner, cooking with wine....) and include appetizer, entree and dessert (and did i mention a nice glass of home made wine?!). I highly recommend this fun and different night out! read more

I recently completed both the molecular gastronomy class (with friends), and the Cooking with Confidence 3-week course (with husband who may or may not be terrified of kitchen-related items), and I highly recommend Professor Chef classes - they would be useful and fun by yourself, or a great date night or girls night. I have a lot of practice - but no real training or expertise - in the kitchen. I read technique-ey cook books for fun, and I have weekly dinner parties for up to 10 people, and cook most days for my husband and myself. However, things often go wrong, take me longer than they should (i.e. chopping), or occasionally I'm turned off by recipes because I don't understand little parts of them (i.e. how does one 'fold' in something without over-mixing?). I was a little worried that the cooking with confidence course would be too easy for me, but I still wanted my husband to figure out how to cook something for days that I don't want to, so I thought I'd keep him company to get him to go. In fact, it turned out we both learned a ton - l learned a lot of tips and tricks, and figured out many, many reasons why my cooking wasn't turning out perfectly every time, whereas my husband learned several techniques and recipes. He even made me a full dinner once each week after the class. This class was overall just very informative and helpful for really any level (other than already gourmet). The molecular gastronomy class was VERY fun, and was actually more useful than I would have imagined. A week after the class, I was able to make a key-lime cheese cake (a recipe I've used for years)for a husband's work party, and top it with balls of sweet lemon-lime sauce that pop in your mouth spaced around the rim of the cake, and gelled caviar of the same sauce in the center. I will NEVER go to an awkward party without molecular gastronomy again - talk about a safe conversation topic! Everyone was so interested in what the hell was on the cake and what they were eating, I didn't have to ask a single person about the weather. A note about this class though - don't plan on taking it unless you have a home start-up cost expectation. I had received a Molecule-R startup kit for Christmas, so was able to start playing the next day, but these kits are something like $60 and are necessary for doing these things at home. Also, these kits come with a DVD of 'recipes,' and really it includes everything we did in class (and more). However, I don't think they would have made any sense without going over the same things with people who had already done them, and the ability to ask the 'why' questions that can teach you the concepts instead of the recipes. And the last note on this one - don't plan to eat a meal here, these are more like garnishes, so although you will eat what you make, it won't be 'dinner.' I was surprised to learn that the classes were taught from the personal home of the Chef couple - which originally turned me off a bit, but only for the few seconds before we got started. They keep the classes small enough that there's still plenty of room and opportunity to try everything yourself, to have your own cutting board if it's relevant to the class, etc. This also made it way more fun at times though, as the chefs would occasionally stray from recipes or show you other things they used or made that they just had sitting around the kitchen. Also I didn't think it was entirely clear from the web site, but the classes (at least the ones I took) were taught by both chefs together, which was really fun - they brought different opinions and expertise to the table, and had a fantastic dynamic that kinda made it more like dinner and a show... And did I mention that we were offered home-made beer and wine in all classes we took? So...it may seem like a lot of money to take a class like this, but we just ended our last class with a full AMAZING meal, several glasses of wine, and the tools to do the same thing at our own house - which really makes the class a bargain! read more

This experience far exceeded anything I expected. We did a girls night out to the Tuscan Night, they have a maximum of 6 people at the event that is located right in their kitchen at home. The two owners were so fun and personable and taught us so many tricks to making cooking easier as well as the differences in various vinegars and oils. They served homemade wine and allowed everyone to participate. They are extremely well prepared and make for such a fun and exciting night, we made sweet potato gnocchi, escarole, Cornish hen, and Tuscan apple nut cake. After the preparation and cooking, we were able to enjoy this delicious meal. They provided all the recipes for us to try this at home. If you want a fun date night, girls night, birthday celebration, bachelorette party, this is the place to go. I cannot say enough about this amazing experience. I can't wait to go back for another class. read more

As a housewarming gift, my fiance and I were given a gift certificate for 4 to Professor Chef. Melinda and Phil came to our house and walked us through making a delicious dinner of crab canapes, apricot stuffed pork tenderloins, château potatoes, julienned carrots and floating "merangue" islands with lemon-scented custard sauce and raspberries. It was delicious and a great experience, and they were absolutely wonderful to work with! A fun experience - highly recommend! read more

Took my boyfriend to the pasta making class as a surprise and we absolutely loved it. We made 4 different pastas and 4 different sauces and every one of them was amazing. Learned so much but also had a ton of fun. They offer a great balance of watching them do things and also giving everyone in class a chance to try it as well. The owners are super nice and FUNNY and we met some cool people in our group as well. They also let us taste their homemade wine which was delicious! We will be back for another class for sure! Had such a great time last night with Professor Chef! The husband and wife team came out to my friends house for a bachelorette party. They cooked us a fantastic 3 course meal with instruction and we got to help! We got to plan the menu beforehand and pick some of the bachelorette's favorite foods. The instructors were relaxed and personable, and made sure we all had a good time, all while teaching us. I can't tell you how many great tips and techniques I learned. Making and rolling our pasta dough was one of my favorite parts of the evenings. When we had some pasta and mushrooms left over Phil quickly whipped up a second pasta dish using those ingredients and their own homemade wine that was to die for! I think the bachelorette especially enjoyed the "Shrimp-cargot" appetizer recipe. I would highly recommend these folks for any party or simply if you want some additional instruction in the kitchen on how to cook some amazing food. So much fun and helpful too! read more
