Leroy Colbert, the owner and former professional bodybuilder, is the COOLEST man on the planet (take THAT, Fonzie). His entire shop is plastered with autographed photos of the various body builders and celebrities he's met throughout his life, including Arnold "Let's Castrate California" Schwarzenegger and Mike "Let Me Eat Your Children" Tyson. Mr. Colbert's knowledge of nutrition is immense, and he's incredibly discreet and non-critical when offering you advice on what kinds of powders, vitamins, or shakes you should drink, either to gain or lose weight -- or turn yourself into a surefire winner at Muscle Beach. "Stop running so much, and pick up a dumbbell, dumbbell..." He has bar stools set up at his sales counter for whenever you want to shoot the breeze or talk smack about GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe. If you've got time on your hands in your busy day or are chronically unemployed, Mr. Colbert can entertain you all day long with fascinating stories about the community, sports, or how our country has lost its way (you young punk ;-P). It's like being in a hardware store talking to the man behind the counter while your dad shops for drills. Except instead of drills, you're looking at pills and herbal diet teas and chalky candy bars that are supposed to turn you into He-Man or She-Ra. Prices are reasonable, too -- much less than you'd pay for something less effective at a chain vitamin shop or a Rite Aid. Plus Monsieur Colbert will threaten to kick your ass if you don't do what he says! Best store, EVER. After a detailed intake process, we proceeded working together. I've ordered a total of 4 times and spent a few hundred dollars here. Overall, the food has been good but the experience has been stressful. Food: - For the most part, I enjoyed the food itself. The flavors were interesting, and I appreciated the variety and seasonal ingredients. - However, one meal was made almost entirely of beans, and when I raised a concern that I could not eat them due to a sensitive stomach and low FODMAP preference highlighted during our intake, Katie suggested to eat the beans a small amount at a time. I thought it unfortunate that the suggestion was to tolerate the meal, when I was paying for a customized meal delivery plan. - There were some hairs in the food, part of which she compensated me for ($2). - During the intake, Katie agreed to provide me a list of ingredients in the meals. Unfortunately, sometimes the list did not actually contain all the ingredients used. She never provided an ingredient list for our last delivery, despite being reminded twice. Late delivery: - For our first delivery, she said the delivery window was 6-9p. She came at 9:20p. - I thought I could solve for the late delivery by asking for an earlier delivery in her route. For our last delivery, she said that the delivery windows was before 7p. She came at 7:30p. - Both of these presented some issues for me, and I had to have somebody else go out to get the packages. She never acknowledged or apologized for being late either time. I think Butterfly Cleanse would be a better fit for somebody 1) looking for a non-customized menu and not with food sensitivities, and 2) who is ok with delivery times being different than what the promised time is. It looks like there are other people who have found a good fit with Butterfly Cleanse, and I'm so glad about that. It's unfortunate that I wasn't able to.
