Anyway, this does not really pertain to my review so I'll skip ahead. My family is into health and fitness and I started going to fitness shows and working out at about age 25. Which also does not pertain to my review so let me jog ahead. (I forgot to mention that I moved to Los Angeles, Studio City in 1997.) I only just got back into the gym after a three year hiatus and the only reason for the long break was recreational drug use. Which I'm not proud of, but hey, I'm back. I've now been working out for just over a month and I finally discovered this great little store. Sexy Nutrition. I'm not a huge fan of GNC, and prefer smaller shops. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I have not tried the pre or post workout shakes yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

I was not going to write a review because its not typically my thing but I felt I was absolutely…read moreobligated to after what happened to me. I saw David a little over a year ago and my goals were to get off my prescription drugs and relieve my stomach issues - bloating/discomfort whenever I ate anything. During the consultation he told me that should be "no problem" and he ordered a few tests - bloodwork, adrenals, etc. the tests cost well over $1,000 and the 1st month of supplements around $350-$400 but I was determined to give it all a try. While I waited for the results he started me on a few supplements (they were all "David Allen nutrition brand" and NONE of the ingredients were listed on them. You take them blindly and the office will not share what is in the supplements, probably because they want you to purchase them from his line only - and they are EXPENSIVE - like $300-$500 a month. ) the diet plan he gave me was clearly a generic one because im a vegetarian and a lot of meats were listed on mine so it seemed to be the diet he prints and gives to all his patients with zero thought given to it. I expected after I paid $250 in a consult to at least get a diet plan catered to me specifically. After getting the results back, he gave me VERY little info about what he learned. He kept it all very vague. He said everything came back great, keep up on the supplements and diet plan that he gave me BEFORE the tests. NOTHING changed after the $1000 + in tests.... I was really confused and frustrated. Basically all I learned was "eliminate dairy and gluten!" and at this point had spent well over $2,000. The supplements did help with the bloating, but my whole goal was to get off pills, not add 5+ pills to my diet with no long term plan. He had no plan for getting me off my meds, all he did was add his supplements to my plan and tell me to eat vegetables (I already had a very healthy diet!). I never really thought much of these tests until a year later....I had let this all go andI had stopped taking his supplements and was still struggling with bad gut health/bloating after I ate. I went to hawaii for 6 weeks and I cold turkey quit my adderal and vyvansee (that I was on for about 15 years so if you can imagine my body was a bit of a mess) My stomach issues got a lot worse so I saw a natural doctor in Hawaii for help and I sent her my labs that I had taken back with David.... she told me that they were VERY helpful and that I had a lot of bad gut bacteria - a kind that can cause mood disorders! She put me on a 6 week diet/supplement plan (supplements where the ingredients are listed on the bottle so I can use her preferred brand OR ANOTHER one that is cheaper if I wanted too...and she would NEVER advise me to eat, or take anything if I dont know EXACTLY what is in it.) She is getting rid of the bad gut bacteria to hopefully CURE my issues, where as David was prolonging them and not disclosing the test results to me properly so I would be a lifetime client. I feel he completely hid my issues from me. The gut bacteria I had/have in my stomach is eliminated by a very specific diet/supplement plan that he should have been aware of/informed me of but he didn't. The only time he changed my supplement plan was when I said they were getting a bit too pricy - he eliminated one thing from the plan to help with costs. Anyways - if I had been given the information I PAID FOR over a year ago, and if the doctor I trusted would have disclosed the information to me and helped me back then - I would be in a very different place right now. I feel all they cared about was quick fixes and making money. Their supplements were like a band aid - they helped while I took them. Kind of like the adderal I was trying to get off of/avoid from the very start of seeing David. You can heal yourself with food - this is why I came to the nutritionist in the first place. David gives his supplements to all his clients - I have a friend that saw him and her and I had different issues/goals yet he gave us the same supplement plan....so shady!!! I am taking the new supplements I am on to eliminate my gut issues, help my body regenerate from the long-term stimulant use and then I will be off of most of them once my body is back to normal. this is the path I was looking for all along. My natural doctor has a full 6 week plan that makes sense. that I can do on my own with her guidance. NOTHING is left in the dark. She wants me to fully understand everything I am taking/eating and why so I can make long term lifetime changes to diet/gut health. I feel David Allen Nutrition is a complete scam. I would avoid it at all costs. Save your money and see a doctor who wants to help reach your health goals honestly. I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT DOCTOR IS NOT DAVID.

Honestly, after I left her office I sat in my car for 10 minutes reviewing what had just occurred as well as reviewing the documentation she shared and feeling as though I had learned a $140 lesson. I left there with a pile of papers and no real plan and no follow-ups in sight. I decided to schedule my appointment with her because of her years of experience and her supposed field of knowledge. I appreciated her food pyramid knowledge, but ultimately felt let down, yet again, by the nutrition industry.  Yes, I pretty much knew everything she told me, and the candor was something new from a Nutritionist but I feel that she was done with me 1/2 way through the meeting.  I did have more questions but was quite flabbergasted at what had just transpired. My biggest concern was with the meal plan.  My experience in other programs is an EXACT meal layout for the week. For example, breakfast eat 2 eggs and spinach, lunch is a tuna sandwich with lettuce and dinner is a greek salad. Specifics.  As opposed to the blank 1,800 calorie "meal plan" (just count calories) she gave me. I had mentioned that meal planning was my problem and it wasn't solved. I'm no further along than I was before I walked in because I still have to make a meal plan, which to me is as I said 2 eggs and spinach, as opposed to "you can eat 1 1/2 cups of fruit all day". Yes, I am fully aware that I am not losing weight in my current course of action and as easy as it is to just follow her outline or just stop eating, as proposed, it is not. Perhaps I have emotional eating issues, body dis-morphia issues, food allergies, none of which we talked about. And as much as I think it was my responsibility to let her know these things, I would also hope that she'd seen these issues in past clients since she reminded me, she has been doing this for over 20 years and would ask.  What about food issues I have?  I didn't think it appropriate to mention, as after talking with her, felt she would have dismissed them.  I am not opposed to a tough-love-type mentality, but I feel as though I was completely ignored. My being unsatisfied with not being able to work out as I had previously done prior to my current health issues should have given her some indication of my dedication to wellness. i.e. I'm not lazy and not trying. I push through pain (yes, again fully aware of the consequences) which is what helps me get through the day as I expect a lot from myself. I also found it condescending that she shared how she had only gained 10 lbs over 40+ years of having moved to California.  As if to say, look at me, it can be done.  I have no idea what type of person she is or has been and what issues if any, she's had to face, so needless to say it may have been extremely hard for her, but I didn't get that impression. Hence making me feel even more terrible about myself. In the 10 minutes I sat in my car, I felt so much regret of trying to reach out for help. I have tried to reach out, I want help. I hate this feeling. I wish more people in health and fitness had more empathy. And don't even get me started on the "handouts" from 1970 and that I could get a discount if I bought her upcoming book directly from her.

She has empowered me and made me a more knowledgeable and healthier person. She's certainly very encouraging, caring, and vibrant, and as someone who has an a good sense of intuition with which I've observed Ruth during multiple appointments, I can say that any other Yelp review she gets containing negativity is unquestionably written either by a scammer or just someone with unreasonable and distorted logic/expectations.
