This is a very long overdue review on Golden Monkey Healing. I believe I've been holding back, because it's already difficult to get an appointment with Matt. He's in demand! About 4 years ago, I was hobbling around with the worst case of plantars faciitis. I used to go to Equinox, and the amazing restorative yoga instructor Amber, referred me to see Matt. Her boyfriend was a patient and swore by him. I was a bit apprehensive because of the needles, but Matt communicated throughout the insertion of the needles. They were not painful at all. He put a infrared lamp on the affected area, and I napped away while he stepped out. A few days later, no more limping around. After that experience, I've been seeing Matt whenever I have physical ailments. I should've bought a package, because it's a great deal for follow up care. This time around, I came in to his new, tranquil location in Valley Village. Another big score for me--only minutes away from home. I have a bad case of carpal tunnel, it flares up every now and then. This week was the worst it's ever felt. I had a relaxing treatment, maintenance care advice, and how to strengthen my body in the future. Thank you, GMH! I'll definitely come back, not only during pain, but for re-set sessions for my body.

The Guide: Carolina Pelayo * Hot Vinyasa Flow * The room was already warm, dark, candle-lit, & peppermint in the air. Carolina invited us to notice our own energy... Maybe even our neighbor's. Then she asked us to ask ourselves: "What do I need from my practice today?" (Good question.) Then... We breathed. We flowed. Somewhere between Skandasanas and a one-legged vinyasa... I accidentally kicked a young man behind me in the head. He smiled. "It's okay." We kept flowing. Carolina closed class the same way she opened it - with intention - inviting us to carry the energy we created into the rest of our week. The Tribe: * A stranger helped me check in. Another smiled after I kicked him. Carolina held the whole room with warmth. A pretty good description of the community. Space & Place: * Dark. Cozy. Hot. (My kind of room.) Private bathroom inside the yoga room. Cubbies for your things. Free parking garage if you get there early. Street parking worked just fine for me. The Takeaway: * The studio had a self check-in. So did the class. Only one required a touchscreen.

Immediately was greeted when I walked in. I signed up for the quiet Gong healing meditation. It was the day of the full moon and I needed a more calming vibe and I'm so glad I did. She told me what "supplies" we needed (we used two big heavy pillow things, two blankets, two blocks, and my own mat). I never knew yoga could utilize so many things but it was fun! We only did 4(ish) poses besides the warm up but the time flew by. And they felt so good and relaxing. The room was dark with fun lights. It was so pretty and so peaceful. Heather explained everything perfectly. And had some pretty great jokes. It was a really good, lighthearted, calm way to end my day. If I manage to get finances together, I'd love to do a membership here. Only con - parking is hard. Not much around there and no lot. But it's Noho. Just gotta prepare for that.

I really enjoyed the class and looking forward to going back. They have different prices for different classes and membership. For those who are interested. They also offer an online classes. They also do a great job of creating a sense of community. From time to time, they host special weekend events with thoughtful touches like goodie bags and guest sponsors, which makes you feel really valued as a member. I've even joined one of their group hikes, which was such a fun way to connect outside the studio. They've also brought in guest instructors for things like dance and Zumba-style classes, which keeps things fresh and interesting. What really keeps me coming back is the overall experience. The space is always clean, calm, and beautifully maintained, and I love how easy it is to just show up -- mats, towels, and props are all provided. This is a normal step for anyone evaluating a fitness or wellness membership. Later, management accused me of violating their policies simply for attending both locations and permanently revoked my access. The explanation provided was inconsistent with the promotional outreach they themselves sent encouraging trial participation. The situation escalated further when I accompanied a referred guest using a guest pass that had been given to me by another member. Instead of handling the matter professionally or discussing it in good faith, "Miguel" imposed a permanent ban and stated he would not correspond further. The lack of flexibility, unwillingness to review context, and overall tone from management was disappointing for a business that markets itself as a community-oriented wellness space. Potential members should carefully review all policies and be aware that enforcement may be strict and final regardless of circumstances.
