Dr. Andrew Frishman is literally a life-saver! He and his team at Progressive saved my dog's life. I was given a cancer diagnosis by the vet that we have used for years in Manhattan. The vet there said the tumor was inoperable and there was not treatment for this type of cancer. As we weighted our options to put our beautiful and loving pet down, THANKFULLY, we sought a second opinion from Dr. Frishman. Dr. Frishman advised he could perform the operation immediately. We had our pet in his care the very next morning. The tumor was removed, and now our dog is on an innovative immunotherapy treatment plan consisting of 3 shots that have zero side effect. Our dog is thriving and couldn't be happier. And, to think, we were told there was no treatment by a very expensive tribeca vet. I now make the drive to Somers without a second thought. I implicitly trust Dr. Frishman and his team. Everyone there is thoughtful, full of compassion, loving towards the animals (and yes, I've watched them with their other patients as they come and go out - everyone smiling and happy), and their costs are very, very reasonable. They do not charge for anything "extra" and they do not try to sell any unnecessary treatments or services, which is so refreshing. Good Vet care, but it's very hard to get prescription ordered food from them. Very difficult people.

Not progressive or holistic as claimed, I am sorry to report. Had all my cat's records faxed on Monday for a Friday appt. I called Deena, the receptionist, and she she said all the records came through. No, they did not. She did not check that the fax was complete. Crucial records were missing. Then Dr. Frishman didn't look at the records until I was in the little room waiting,(as told to me by the tech,) and there were many records, even though half did not come through. Not very professional or caring on the Dr.'s part. He could not have spent more that 3 minutes on the records from the questions he was asking me. The vet asst., a young man spoke in a very loud voice, and it's been my experience one should keep one's voice down when dealing with a very sick and scared animal. Then they wrote me a prescription for some food that does not exist, so I ran to Petsmart with my sick animal for nothing. PAH claims they are a holistic practice but almost all procedures were conventional, expect for a small packet of Chinese herbs. The things I saw for sale were all conventional. They asked me to come 2 hours before my scheduled appt, and I was still hustled out of there after about 12 minutes. Their prices are pretty high. I cannot recommend this place in any way shape or form. What a shame. read more

El Diablo! This man could not have been granted a license to practice veterinary medicine. I have been a dog owner all of my life and when I brought newly adopted lab mix in for an exam and his shots I was really off put by this guy. First, when I called to schedule I found out that although they say there are open later in the evening - the doctor prefers that all appointments be made before 5PM. We got there and went back to the exam room and he did not even greet us. Then he had co-worker put my new dog on a table and began complaining because my dog was moving due to excitement. After the exam, I had some questions for the doctor, but he told me his schedule was full and if I had additional questions I should make another appointment. I don't think I have ever been so close to punching someone right in the face. He was so dismissive and trite. He was talking down to me and was acting as if I was of less intelligence than he was. No, I am not a doctor, but if you have to be prick to be one--I am glad that I am not. Avoid this devil-doc unless you don't care how you or your animal is treated! read more

So for my NYC natives this is truly a trek and a half..taking over an hour to get here from Manhattan or Queens with no traffic. The vet is a house style on Route 202 and services all small animals. The vet Dr. Frishman is a relaxed guy who also works in the Bronx (Morris Park) on Tuesdays and is known to take your pet to Westchester or the Bronx if it is more convenient for you. The star is subtracted because they aren't open in Westchester on a Thursday which is random...and Sunday so keep this in mind if you need to leave your dog there overnight. Saturdays are also really busy. This vet works for the Humane Society so his prices are lower. He also completely restitched our dogs ruined stitches for a minimal fee. read more

I would not recommend using Progressive Animal Hospital in Somers, NY to anyone. My dog, taken there this summer, was misdiagnosed and mishandled. He was in their care for some time and when I went to pick him up, found him tied up outside, crippled, dehydrated and panicked. He was terrified of the staff there and was in horrendous condition. No warning about his rapid decline in his condition was provided prior to my picking him up and no reason was given when I picked him up in that state. I had no idea what to expect as he had walked to the car to go the Progressive Animal Hospital, just two days prior. Warning, this is NOT the place to take your pet.! I took my dog to Animal Medical Center in Manhattan the next morning. My dog's diagnosis was not good but his care and their kindness were amazing. read more

I just got left Progressive Animal Hospital in tears after Dr. Frishman yelled at me about how my dog died under HIS care when he only came in for a bloody ear. Two years ago, Dr. Frishman gave my dog a sedation to drain his puss filled ear. I live one mile from the hospital. Half way home, he got the bandage off and his ear was bleeding again. My mother turned around and Dr. Frishman gave my dog a second dose of sedatitives. It happened to be the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and at this point it was after hours and the staff was itching to leave. They told my mother instead of waiting here for him to wake up, why don't you let him sleep it off and pick him up in the morning. The next morning my mom went to pick him up. Went in the back w/ the assistant saying "Bailey, Bailey" Bailey was dead in his cage. GET THIS - the next phone call my mother gets is from Dr. Frishman's WIFE asking for MORE MONEY because now they had to dispose of Bailey!!!! I didn't realize this when I went to speak with him today. Nonetheless, he was screaming and cursing at me that I was calling him a malicious dog killer which I never did. I merely asked for an explanation as none was given to my mother, nor an apology or condolence. He couldn't give me an explanation. They have no records other than he is deceased. He told me what he believes happened. He constantly contradicted himself. He couldn't get past that fact that I was coming in "two years later...over a dead dog!" I happened to be living in Florida and this is the first chance I got, thankyouverymuch. Plus my mother has been absolutely DISTRAUGHT. But I NEVER expected him to act like this. He was arguing with me for about 5 mins before he would start his explanation. It almost seems like he has a mental illness. He was out of control. But turning it all around like it was my fault or something. He couldn't deal with this situation for some reason. Contradictions like - dogs don't die here regularly so I remember this dog. Then its dogs die here all the time, but I don't do autopsies on them. They are sick. I was asking why if a perfectly healthy dog other than a bloody ear died under your supervision, wouldn't you want an autopsy for you? For your records? As a Dr.? He said it costs $1,000 and he has kids to feed. Funny, I looked him up and he lives in Chappaqua. Beyond the point. Others were he couldn't remember specifics because it was 2 years ago. Then all of the sudden he remembered clearly. Like at the very end of our convo, he remembered clearly that my dog was awake before he left. He also remembers clearly how he spent hours on the phone with my mother, CRYING WITH HER. That is B.S. And he called my mother a liar. This man is completely unprofessional and I would never trust a plant to be under his care much less a beloved breathing creature who had his whole life ahead of him. My dog Bailey came in with a hemotoma. He left in a body bag. Heed my warning about this hospital. Bailey takes a sedative every time he goes to the vet. He doesn't have allergies to it. It was that he was given 2 doses within an hour or a couple hours. The doctor should have known that and at least stayed with him until he was awake, alive and well. And I am sure he will try to discredit me as well. I have been a paralegal my whole life and my mother is a top executive at IBM. We get nothing out of doing this. She is so distraught she still can't talk about it. I just want my story out there for you to read so you can make an educated decision. read more

I couldn't be more pleased with the care and treatment that myself and my dog have received with Dr. Frishman and the staff here at Progressive. After going through 3 other vets, numerous testings and misdiagnoses', I came to Progressive. Not only was I treated with respect & informed of every step. Dr. Frishman went above and beyond to treat and care for my dog. The entire staff has been more then helpful and are super friendly. After being very jaded with the previous vets I had been to, coming here was a breath of fresh air. I cannot express how much it meant to me to be treated with such kindness, and to find a doctor that isn't concerned with tossing a bunch of prescription meds at a problem and hoping something sticks. In addition, Dr. Frishman uses herbal medicines when possible I find that quite refreshing. I am truly thankful to have found Progressive, and I will continue to bring my animals to this office. read more

Brought cat in on Friday vet said it would be fine till Monday, cat died Sunday night. Talked to two other vets and both said this vet was negligent-he should have had the cat hospitalized right away. I've also heard other horror stories about this vet from other people in town. I recently brought my two corgis in for a check up and vaccinations at Progressive Animal Hospital's new office in White Plains which is located right next door to Best Friends Pet Care. Dr. Frishman, Debbie, Dina and Ethan were all great! Dr. suggested a healthy vitamin supplement called Nupro for my older dogs arthritis and it has been working really well! Prices were good also! Would highly recommend them! read more

My Golden Retreiver Molly has been a patient of Dr Frishman's for 4 years since she was 2 months old. We have always been treated with kindness and respect. at Progressive Animal Hospital. You are always taken on time for your appointment, and the staff goes above and beyond to make sure your pet gets the best care. I don't usually post reviews of this kind, as I think each person's experience is so individual, but I have to agree with many of these reviews, in that I, too, had a negative experience with Dr. Frishman that I feel ACTUALLY FRIGHTENED AND ENDANGERED MY CAT. My cat was vomiting from ingesting something toxic, and was lethargic and scared. The tech handled my cat very roughly by the scruff, dragging him around the exam table. I found it excessive and unnecessary. My cat was not hissing or aggressive in any way. (I also know that the latest veterinary journals have claimed that "scruffing" a cat does not calm them down, but rather frightens them.) Dr. Frishman did administer a hydration shot, which did help my cat, but he then recommended that we slowly re-introduce food, possibly even human grade baby food. He did not warn us that human baby food often has onion in it, and onion is toxic to cats. My cat worsened, and luckily bounced back after we slowly gave him his high-quality cat food in slow, steady increments. Dr. Frishman seemed IMPATIENT AND INTOLERANT of my fears that my cat was going to die, and I found the whole experience very negative. NOT ONLY WOULD I NOT RECOMMEND THIS VET, BUT I WOULD ACTUALLY ADVISE AGAINST IT. Drive the extra time to another vet in the area who will make you feel like you and your pet are cared for. read more
