COVID UPDATE: This place is open, but you need to make an appointment in advance to limit the number of people in the salom. You must wear a mask at all times; even the stylists are wearing masks for your safety. They're pretty expert in working around the mask! They are doing typical coloring but cannot style (they are not allowed to use a blow dryer). Guys: They do a great job with Men's hair too! I have jet black hair and my silver came out great! Overall: Best value, affordable prices, and expert stylists. Would definitely recommend. Warning: they do have a long queue of appointments (of mostly regular customers), so expect a 3-4 week backlog if you're a regular. They may not be accepting new customers at the moment. read more

I have not written a negative review in a long time, but the owner of this salon destroyed my mothers hair. I live out of state and had to phone a friend to correct the horrible outcome. The cut, which was done in 2-5 minutes, was choppy, uneven, not stylish and there were multiple chunks of hair missing. The highlights were so random, very dated and streaky, very yellow/orange. When my mom left she was told to just buy purple shampoo. As a stylist of nearly 20 years, we all have bad days, but when you do a mediocre job and ruin someone's hair, you do not charge them hundreds of dollars just to tell the customer to go buy purple shampoo to finish your job! It's going to cost hundreds of dollars to get a color correction and cut correction somewhere else and YEARS of growing out this awful cut. This is so upsetting because the cut was so bad, it's not fixable at all without extensions or a pixie cut. Sorry to complain, but it could have been avoided had she taken time to treat my mom as a guest!! read more

I've been going to Project Blonde for a while now. I want to say this is my 2nd year. Lynn just knows how to work with my hair and to get it the shade I want. I'm naturally a brunette and went caramel blonde. I get tons of compliments on my hair color, and this is where the magic happens! At today's visit, Lynn's assistant, Tina, touched up my roots, and Lynn gave me a super cute shoulder length cut. They listen to you and know exactly what to do. I called this place yesterday because I was sick of looking at my ombre style hair (not by choice) since it had grown out over the past 5 months and I was ready to have "even" looking hair again. I have really long blonde hair, and I am pretty particular when it comes to blonde, like most girls are. I called, was booked with Lynn within one hour, went in, and was out under an hour with beautiful blonde hair again (not brassy, not pee-colored, none of that.) She did a great job. I will definitely be coming back. She is my new "go to" girl in Modesto, and she should be yours too if you like your hair to be a pretty blonde! Surprisingly, she did a better job than 4 stylists did over the past 3 years when I lived in San Francisco. that tells you something..... Let me tell you I love this place. I'm not the owner nor do I work there. First I wanted all over highlights and my hair was medium length. Everywhere else wanted around $230 in Modesto. So a friend recommended this place. They charged $120 with haircut and style??? I was ify at first, but I went anyway. OMG I love my hair. Lynn is wonderful with color....and when she's not there (I forgot the other girls name Chan-something) is amazing as well. Thats the hook. When you love your hair and they are that good.... they know that your'll keep coming back for touch-ups. After 3 months, touch-ups with cut and style $ 85 without tip. I live in Los Angels and down here we Yelp a lot so....I guess its not that big up north yet....I have family up North thats why keep coming back. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!! I was super excited to make an appointment to ombré my hair after reading such positive yelp reviews (low prices, experienced with bleaching hair etc.). So, I made my appointment for the following week. I should have seen the warning signs from the beginning. Over the phone they didn't ask me for a name for the appointment or a call back number... Not good. Anyway, when I went in for my appointment (approximately 15 minutes early because I had some concerns about my hair being so dark and so long), and NO ONE SAID A SINGLE WORD TO ME. No "hello." No smile. No "how can we help you?" All they could manage was a few harsh glares and a pretty condescending attitude that wreaked with "wtf are you doing here?" Granted, I know I look young but how dare they not treat me like a paying customer. I didn't let that steer me away though. I smiled politely and said quite loudly (to anyone who would listen) that I had an appointment. That caught the attention of a woman who seemed to be the manager. She didn't ask for my name or anything. She just pointed me to a chair in the back, and asked me what I was there for, while still working on another woman. She wasn't even half way through putting this woman's hair in rollers so I suspect she had forgotten about our appointment altogether. She performed a strand test on my hair to make sure it would bleach to a decent color. I know my hair pretty well and I've had it platinum blonde before so I thought this 2 hour step was pretty unnecessary. I understand that she is the professional but it's my hair... Come on now. After the successful strand test and an extremely awkward 2 hours of the associates talking to each other and ignoring their customers, the manager, or whoever she was, told me that she couldn't finish my hair before closing (5 pm on a Thursday) and she wasn't willing to stay any later. Had she just started my hair at the start of my appointment instead of not listening to me and wasting our time with a strand test, my hair could have been finished. But no, she had the audacity to waste 2 hours of my life, then tell me to schedule another appointment to actually do my hair. Whatever. They could have gotten away with wasting my time had they not been SO RUDE THE ENTIRE TIME. I didn't feel welcome at all. Needless to say, I didn't reschedule an appointment there. Instead I drove to Fantastic Sam's and was helped that same day by the sweetest, most talented hair dresser, Jessica. She has dark hair with bleach blonde chunks and knows how to do blonde on dark hair so so well. I probably paid more at Fantastic Sam's than I would have at Project Blonde but my ombré hair came out perfectly and it was worth every penny. read more

Went there based on a friends high praise of this salon and great prices. Mistake. Big. Mistake. Walked in, no greeting. The owner/manager? Did not even look at me when I mentioned I had an appointment, told me she was running behind- come back in an hour. Ok, fine. still kept a good outlook thinking that this place must be good then. Came back an hour later, placed me in the back. Still no one spoke to me. Stylist finally greeted after 30 minutes. Told her I wanted blonde highlights. She said no. first time I was told no by a stylist. Told me she wouldn't have enough time.. Great, by this time I was irritated. I R R I T A T E D. I had to go somewhere the next day and did not want to go with that much grow out. I just told her to dye my hair chocolate brown and trim so I could leave.. and yet still she squeezes me in between her other clients which happen to be her family and friends off the street no appointments just walk ins. I was very satisfied with her work and consideration. she also managed to squeezed in a friend of mines on such short notice and was able to accommodate her needs as well. Upon entering the salon, we were not greeted, no "welcome", no "hi", no "how May I help you?", it was basically a death stare. these hairdressers need some customer service courses. This is a update from a previous post I wrote about 11-mon. back. I am sad to report that can no longer get my hair done at project blonde. I asked the owner if she could dye my hair a red color (showed her a Pic) told her I was concerned about it being Pink and couldn't have any crazy different colors because my job does not allow it. She said since there are blonde streaks in your hair it may make it turn pink. So we decide to just add a few red streaks in the hair to test it out and next time She could change it if I liked it. Long story short I ended up with a little bit of pink hair. The red looked great on the brown. I called her a few days later and she told me well that will happen but after a few washes it will come out or lighten. I'm a little upset by this answer because she knew how important it was for me to have NO pink what so ever. I felt she could have some how offered to make this right. I paid 100 bucks cash for someone to tell me after a few washes it will come out!! I work hard for my money, Not to mention every time you go she is never on time and the process is so slow mainly because your always waiting on something. This is why my sister in law stopped going. I also think she could have dyed my hair darker then go red to get the color I was looking for, it just seemed to me like she was taking short cuts. Hello, Multiple friends and family members of mine go to Project Blonde... Let me let you in on a few things about this business... First off i will start by saying that they are overbooked and under staffed.. Lynn the owner is very rude sometimes.. One time i went in with my friend so she could get her hair colored blonde she had brown hair at the time... when we walked in Lynn asked what she could do for her and she said she wanted to go blonde.. Lynn then said " i dont know why everyone wants to go Blonde!!! Ugghhh" well i can answer that question for her maybe it is because the name of your company is called PROJECT BLONDE!!! second experience another friend of mine went to Chambo and she wanted a blonde crown around her head... Chambo put the bleach on and let it sit for a long time without checking it my friend had hair to the middle of her back that she had been growing out forever.. when Chambo took the foils off the blonde was VERY spotty and not to mention my friends blonde hairs were only about 3 inches long... and she still charged her!!!! I would recomend going to either DIana or Sinan... im not sure if they are still employed there but i can promise you that they will not butcher you like these other two!!!! I've been coming to Lynn for about 5 years now. If your expecting a high end Salon that caters to you and serves Champagne and and cookie's this Salon is not for you. Your paying for a good hair job here not the extra $$$$ for Champagne and cookies. This Salon is more of a Mom and Pop Salon. Prices are very reasonable and to my experience cheaper then most Salons out there. Everyone here is very cool and makes you feel comfortable. Someone is always leaving to get lunch or dinner lol or Starbucks so feel free to put your oder in. It's more of a sit back and relax type of Salon. No makeup needed cause no one judges you here like they do at them other high end Salons. So if your wanting a good job on your hair and I mean Lynn is one of the best around especially when it comes to blonde then I definitely recommend coming here. Lynn will never tell you "NO" she can not do something. She tries her absolute very best to do exactly what you want and within all the years coming to her she definitely is successful at doing what she does best which is hair. One of Lynn's specialties is Blonde. She is one of the few hair dressers I know that can get you that Platinum White Blonde and without frying your hair! I had been going to project blonde for many years...about 7. Since they were at the salon in Paradise Road and Lynn the owner is good but she always talks about people when they walk out and she puts their business out there so don't trust her with your personal stuff. She is not proffessional at all and she always has an attitude specially when you dont give her a tip. But long story short...she tried to charge me for something she did not do and she even threatened me if i didnt pay her and i was very unhappy. I will NEVER go back with her again...she is not the only one that does hair and I have found a salon on crowslanding rd called Juanitas and their prices are good and they are very friendly. At least you wont get an asian girl giving you attitude and talking bad behind your back. lynn is very rude. she is constantly busy answering her cell phone, texting, or calling her boyfriend! a lot of the negative reviews on here are very accurate. I have gone there maybe a total of 5 times and never had a good experience. lynn will book like four people for herself at the same time and bounce around leaving you sitting waiting way longer than necessary. she is very rude and makes you feel unwelcome and uncomfortable there. she has a girl there that is like a volunteer or something while she goes to beauty school and is usually the one who takes the foils out and washes your hair. this last time she put the toner on my hair because lynn was too busy yet again on the phone planning dinner with her boyfriend cuz they were having all he co-workers from the salon come (which seems the same story everytime I am there) while doing another girls hair who was booked with me.... lynn rushed out the door but made sure she came up to me just to get her money before she left.. my hair was not even dry or done at this point. she had her "helper" dry my hair and told me she didn't have time to trim it (and I was in need of a trim) although she charged me the same for style trim and color...whatever anyway once my hair was dried by the helper and lynn had already left. my hair was piss color yellow instead of a pretty blonde, was pretty pissed. then I get home and look closer and show my husband I could see the roots still like It seriously looked like I didn't even just get my roots touched up!!! I lifted my hair half up and half down and can see zig zags of uneven root cover but all of them were brown roots just some were longer brown roots than others. hard to explain but it looked HORRIBLE. she rushes, she is rude, she is always preoccupied and will not focus on your hair! not to mention every single time I have been in there her and the other workers will openly talk bad about customers RIGHT after they leave. like out loud...so rude, makes me wonder what they say when I walk out (the time at least I left before she actually left me there lol) anyway do not go there waist of time and money. I don't even see how she stays in business seriously.... PLUS I called her to let her know how terrible my hair looked once it was dry when she left to ask her to fix it, no return call....in fact she wont even answer my calls cuz shes LAZY and doesn't care to make sure her customers are happy. funny she never had a problem answering her phone for me to make an appointment before or to call me back, but to fix her mistake nope... read more

I WILL NOT recommend project blond to anyone. The owner never stopped talking to her friends the entire time I was there. I had to wait 30 to 45 minutes before she got to me even though I had an appointment. I had to literally interrupt her conversation with someone else just to tell her how I wanted my hair cut, then I felt like she thought I was being rude. As for my haircut, she did exactly the opposite of what I asked. My hair is very fine, thin and grows very slow. I told her I've been trying to grow my layers out and only wanted her to shape it a little. SHE CUT ALL THE LAYERS SHORT AGAIN!!!!! The result.....I have to start all over again. It had taken 3 years for them to finally grow as long as they were before she cut them off. The haircut is so bad all I can do is wait for it to grow out again. I hate my hair now and I have to spend no less then 30 min. every morning just to get it to look like anything at all then it still doesn't. What is it about "I'm trying to let my layers grow out" that is so difficult to understand??? I'm angry and would love to do the same thing to the owner's hair that she did to mine.
