She clearly loves teaching and is incredibly knowledgeable about acting theory and applications. Hailey has high expectations for her learners and is also deeply compassionate, a perfect combination for creating an effective learning environment. I am immensely grateful to have been able to learn with her. Hailey is the primary instructor for The Studio Seattle, whereas Andrew Tsao is the artistic director and founder. Andrew was going to cover the last several weeks of classes in my Acting Foundations 2 class series, and prior to this he co-taught a class with Hailey. In this class, Andrew had us participate in exercises where we would be improvising interactions with a scene partner. These scenes were meant to be highly realistic- we were playing ourselves and had similar relationships to each other as we do in real life. Our objectives and given circumstances were given to us individually, without our scene partner's (or the class's) knowledge. In one scene, Andrew had one of our male classmates play the role of a sexual predator towards not one, but two of our classmates. When his scene partner responded to his unwanted advances authentically, by attempting to distract the perpetrator and leave, Andrew told her that she was responding incorrectly and that should/would in fact "fight". He also told her that her "avoidance" would be a hindrance to her as an actor. In another scene, part of the given circumstances was that one of my classmates had had an abortion. I followed up with Andrew expressing my concern that not one, but two extremely sensitive topics, particularly for women, were chosen for these exercises. I stated that that the nature of the exercises required us to be ourselves, thereby increasing the level of sensitivity and creating a high potentiality for trauma/re-traumatization. I acknowledged that while actors do work with difficult content, we get to choose and consent to this, which was not an option in this situation (since we did not know our scene partner's backgrounds or objectives). I stated my expectation that content will be more thoughtfully chosen for these exercises moving forward and that learners be made more fully aware of their options. Andrew's initial response acknowledged that he could have been more thoughtful in ensuring everyone was aware that they could opt out of the exercises. He did not address my concerns over the nature of the content itself, other than implying that more experienced actors would have been fine with the content (I have since heard from multiple other acting instructors that this is not at all the case). I responded by saying that I appreciated his effort to improve transparency around opting out of exercises moving forward. I again stated my concern over the content itself, particularly as it relates to women, and expressed skepticism that more experienced actors would have been fine with the content. Overall, I felt like my concerns were dismissed. Andrew responded by disinviting me to continue attending classes at The Studio Seattle. Based on my experience, I'm of the opinion that Andrew Tsao is not interested in feedback as it relates to the safety of his students, particularly women. For this reason, I would caution any woman/female person against taking classes at The Studio Seattle.

Alana's deep understanding of theory and process offers the groundwork to feel comfortable and prepared for the deeper work in Foundations 2, while Aaron has a magical way of balancing thoughtful and respectful lessons with a humility and irreverence that creates a joyful space to learn and try new things. Thank you, Andrew for creating a welcoming, enriching, and intensive space in Seattle.

We joined for a mixed ages demo class in the summer with Ms. Elizabeth (she was wonderful!) At 4 months my son was the youngest one there, and I didn't know what to expect but he was so engaged and interested in seeing the other kids dance and sing. We signed up for the babies class (0-8 months) for the fall semester and he was 5 months when it started. We are about to wrap up this semester and I only have great things to say. The babies class is small, with 5 babies max in a class. It's very clean and Covid protocol is taken into consideration where everyone needs to show proof of vaccination. Ms. Sarah brings a warm energy with prompts to engage our babies through music and play. Sometimes it's an instrument to play music with, interact with silk scarves, dancing for your baby, and more. My son loves the drums. As a first time mom I highly recommend Music Together. It's a great way to play and connect with your baby through songs, have social exposure to other babies, and meet other parents, I even made a great mom friend! I really love how kids can continue taking these classes into their preschool years and learn new original songs with special instruments for the semester highlighted in the songs. We look forward to many more music classes at Alley Bell!

Every song has a different activity involved and keeps the kids engaged, though if they decide to wander around during that is completely ok! They get to play instruments, throw scarves in the air and be as noisy as they want. While I am not normally one to sing and dance in a crowd of people i felt totally comfortable doing it here, in fact I may have had more fun than the kids! If you are looking for an activity to do with your toddler, do this one, it is awesome!

I understand some Mandarin and my husband does not speak Chinese - as a result, we don't speak Chinese at home. However, our son has learned a tremendous amount in both verbal and written Chinese under Michelle! Michelle is a wonderful, enthusiastic teacher with decades of experience in teaching. She makes learning Chinese fun and engaging for the kids! Nathaniel enthusiastically looks forward to learning Chinese under Michelle and is proud of the progress he has made thus far! It is highly gratifying to hear our son happily share with us new vocabulary he has learned or excitedly point out Chinese characters he recognizes when he spots it outside of class. Michelle's Chinese lessons are highly interactive and perfectly paced as she customizes weekly lessons according to how the class is progressing. Students are taught verbal and written Chinese through stimulating songs, games, homework and various other fun activities. We attended many other Chinese classes around the Seattle/Eastside area but Michelle Sun's class is the best! Michelle's high energy, great sense of humor and love for teaching has truly inspired my son in his weekly classes and the prime reason he has developed his love of learning Chinese! Michelle, thank you so much for your marvelous classes, and your love and patience for your students! Nathaniel is also taking piano lessons under Michelle's daughter, Grace Sun and he is very happy that she is his teacher! Grace is the most patient, positive and encouraging teacher and allows him to learn at his own pace. As a result, instead of dreading the piano like some of his peers, Nathaniel cheerfully plays the piano and perseveres even when he has to overcome new technical challenges. We are very thankful and pleased that Grace has helped our son improve his piano playing and continue his joy of learning music!

Mrs. Sun has done a great job encouraging our kids in their studies by instituting games to make studying more rewarding and fun. While Mrs. Sun pushes the kids to perform, she's also understanding that beginners can sometimes get discouraged and responds very well to make sure they aren't overburdened. The classroom is inviting and class sizes are small...perfect for giving the attention kids need in learning a difficult language like Mandarin.

The most important piece for me was finding a studio that offered something beyond beginner tap and a studio that is certified by Dance Master of America-RSDS fit that criteria. The studio rooms are quite spacious and have viewing windows so others can view from the outside throughout the year without being distracting. There is plenty of parking outside and there is an office area where you can pay your tuition or purchase items in their dancer shop. My class was great. Many of my classmates had been dancing together for years and welcomed me with open arms. My instructor was Beth, the owner, she is a wonderful teacher and is really focused on helping dancers with their technique. This studio is a positive space that encourages dancers to learn and grow. I was fortunate to watch the recital (and also participate) and I was blown away by the talent of the dancers and choreographers.
