Three of my family members were misdiagnosed. Each suffered servere injury and near death. My…read moresister Roberta's misdiagnoses ended in a leg amputation. My nephew was given meds for a swollen ankle. The proper test weren't done and trays the symptoms worsened he went to Mercy Health in Paducah_KY. They investigated further and had him airlifted to St. Louis University where he was scheduled for immediate surgery. My mom was told she had fluid on the lungs that required immediate removal. The day of the procedure to remove fluid we learned from the technician that did a last minute scan mom didn't need the procedure she had less than a trace. Had she had the procedure it could have punctured her lungs. Another family friend's treatment was delayed which contributed to his death. There are no check and balances. It's evident that everyone is treated as if they are the same model car. A assembly line of nameless people whom they have no attachment and just trying to get in and out as soon as possible regardless of seriousness or lack of the condition. Overall the organization structure is disorganized and accountability is lacking. There are a few dedicated, seasoned, compassionate and skilled professionals but it's hard pressed to find them. Zero rating! It's disheartening to know this is a college town with a insufficient medical facility.

I would be remiss if I didn't tell you how Cupid, who I affectionately call "Sweet Baby Jesus" made sure I was loved in a special way on Valentine's Day 2023. Okay...so, my day started out really rough because my transportation did not show up which caused me to have to drive myself to medical appointments at Saint Francis Healthcare in Cape Girardeau, MO. That's over an hour one-way from where I live in Illinois. When I got to my first appointment, the doctor was running late, so by the time I was supposed to be at my second appointment, I am way late. I REALLY needed to see that specialist for the second appointment, but I was late. Everything could have ended there. I could have been given an appointment for a month to two months out according to the schedule, and sent all the way back to Illinois having not seen who I desperately needed to see. Thank goodness for me that Sweet Baby Jesus Cupid was working overtime yesterday. When I tell you that the people of Saint Francis Healthcare, CARE! I'm ashamed to admit that I had a complete meltdown when I thought I would not be seen. I'm talking UGLY cry y'all. This was very personal for me: I was thinking about more time without medical treatment that I needed for months, plus that long drive home to think about not being seen. The devastation was real! The team at Saint Francis Healthcare listened and acted. Even though I was late due to another appointment, and they were fully booked, they went to work to see if there was anything they could do to help me be seen. That arrow shot through their hearts y'all! From Volunteer Director Theresa, who patiently and emphatically listened to me cry as I told her the situation, to Practice Manager Ann who ultimately worked with Dr. Thampi, Nurse Beth, and Front Desk Staffer Tisha to see if or when they could fit me in, everyone was willing to try, and that meant so much. I waited in a waiting room to see the outcome, praying that the appointment would be sooner than March. Little did I know that I was going to get more love than I expected from SFHC! Director Ann eventually came and told me that a patient had cancelled, and a spot was open for 12pm. Oh, and Ann was accompanied by VP of Regional Operations, Lisa Newcomer, who just happened to be walking around the hospital and decided to come with Ann. Let the love rain down on me! Who has favor? I do! I do! I started the day stormy, and ended it on cloud nine. Hello somebody! Dr. Thampi was an absolute joy to meet. He is thoughtful and thorough, and I know I am going to enjoy collaborating with him and his team for my healthcare needs. A hospital system whose VP of Operations is visible and accessible to patients is awesome. She was so friendly too! As for Saint Francis Healthcare in Cape Girardeau, MO, I got nothing but L.O.V.E. for them. If you have a medical need and select Saint Francis Healthcare, tell them Kindra Speech sent ya!

I had taken my 91 year old mother to the Center for Medical Arts to see her doctor following an ER…read morevisit and the sign stated at Patient Registration to go to window 1 if she had been checked in on line; which she had been. There was no one at the window and so I helped my mother with her walker approach the woman at the desk. She asked a man in the line were you not next and then informed me that I was to go to the back of the line. There were people in both the other two windows getting help. She indicated I had cut in line and was very rude. Another man who was going to elevator told me he had checked in on line and the woman told him to go on he did not need to check in there. My mother has severe dementia and after my sister took my mom up to the window she stated she was sorry if she sounded rude I understand healthcare is over stressed at times but patient care and service should be addressed and sign needs to change. The woman stated she was busy with something so that was why no one as at he window. I have attempted to make contact with the patient supervisor for registration staff and have left two messages for him directly to return my call on concerns about inappropriate behavior from one of his staff. I had a follow up call everyday for 3 days and was impressed with the level of communication. Only issue I had was I think the nurse didn't stick my IV very well as much as she messed with it and how long a 1/4 bag of IV took before I had enough. Julie was great though.

She ended up hospitalized for three days with 3 different strains of E. coli. We were billed $306 for a visit where they ignored critical information and failed to take her condition seriously. When confronted, they lied & denied she ever mentioned her travel history. This was negligent and could have had life‑threatening consequences. We will NEVER return!!!
