We were staying in the hotel and it was very convenient. The front desk checked if we needed a reservation when we arrived. This was my favorite meal of the trip. I decided to get the scallop black pudding appetizer with the langoustine main. The scallop app was phenomenal, and the garlic butter langoustine were excellent. The langoustine meat was delicate - tails were sliced open and I took awhile to crack open the claws to get most of the meat out. The elderflower cocktail was refreshing. I had been debating about having langoustine and scallop dishes for app or main. The waitress said the langoustine app has 3, main has 6. Scallop app and main both have 3 scallops, but main has fish also. Great service overall. The restaurant was full and the larger parties really take their time here. The light is dim and everything was served elegantly. My vegetarian friend really enjoyed her bruschetta nibble and eggplant pasta. I would have ordered the cherry bakewell tart, but they were doing a different dessert.

After you eat it's great to go for a walk along the grounds and up to the Castle. The views of Stornoway from up there are beautiful.

The café is a little overcrowded so bumping into others when it's busy is common. Ian Hislop from Have I Got News for You ate here when he visited the Island to trace his ancestry in the Who Do You Think you Are programme. The staff are friendly and helpful (we got a hand written Christmas card with our order just before christmas!) and the food is always good, I highly recommend the Chicken Pakoras and the Chicken Balti.
