The reviews here are 1000000% spot on! This must be one of if not THE most unprofessional Medical Groups in all So Cal. Over a two-month span I attempted to get referrals that were within a reasonable distance from my home, and the best they could produce were offices like an hour or more away. Whats more, all the referrals they produced were usually two to three months down the road! Absolutely none were within the same month, and you can forget about being seen that same week! This despite me indicating to them (and my Primary Dr at the time-see my reviews- who also earned a 1-star review) that I had not one, but two urgent situations. The most immediate and critical issue stemmed from trying to pass a 7mm kidney stone onto the viscous back pain and sciatica attack that was the result of a vehicular accident (not my fault). So I lost on all fronts, especially when you throw in the fact that my primary MD who is associated with this medical group was about as useful as a third leg....that points backward....and grows out of your head! Tried to get a referral for cataract surgery that was in my network and they refused a referral, after waiting on hold for 1 hour. Customer service is incredibly rude and disrespectful and could care less about my medical condition.. the person I talked to tried to feed me a bunch of BS about something that made no sense at all. This company in declaring bankruptcy has depleted southeastern PA of 4 hospitals with the most recent being the only trauma center. There's BLOOD on their hands. Prospect Medical Group Insurance is worse than worthless insurance, because there is no actual coverage. Moreover, the insurance cards purport to be under legitimate health care insurance providers such as Blue Shield, which it is not. Absolutely the worst health insurance, forced upon the most vulnerable people in California who have a low income and are usually either disabled or of limited English language proficiency. Prospect Medical Group refers patients to the worst providers available who are unresponsive, do not provide services, and are incompetent. Providers under Prospect Medical Group do not keep appointments, do not return calls or other communications, do not review test results with patients, do not communicate with other service providers, and should not be part of any health care exchange under Medi-Cal. I will be requesting an investigation into Prospect Medial Group by the State of California, Department of Health Care Services. Please continue to file complaints with me with the State of California Department of Health Care Services against Prospect Medical Group. It is the only way to ensure future victims of Prospect Medical Group receive the care they deserve, and have Prospect Medical Group removed from health care exchanges and the Medi-Cal program. California had one of the better, if not the best, Medicaid programs in the country, until Prospect Medical Group wormed their way into the system. It has to stop. If enough of us complain appropriately, we can end Prospect Medical Group's fraud upon patients and bilking of state and federal funds Prospect Medical Group receives. It is a mystery how this medical group is accredited and in business. Primarily they appear oblivious to high standards and the requirements of COMPETENCY, ACCURACY & TIMELINESS. The lack of these qualities affect every aspect of their business. They were although a perfect pairing with the PCP with which they were affiliated as they share the same lack of high standards or even acceptable standards. From recommending less than credible physicians, dependence on inaccurate facilities providing diagnostics, untimely responses. Every recommendation was appealed which added another level of onerous bureaucracy to the increasingly problematic traumatic injury which rendered me immobile. Despite my initiating all of my own research, directives submitted during appeals they were a failure and appear to join the PCP in a shared interest of revenue for themselves and no attention to essentially a patient exhibiting a life history of peerless health until compromised by this injury. My insurance company although willing and supportive was equally horrified by their behavior. Terrible medical group! It takes weeks for approvals, they send referrals for offices 30 miles from me when there is an office much closer. They submitted the wrong referrals numbers to my insurance company, it took weeks to straighten it out. I will never use this medical group again. read more

Absolute worst medical group. Weeks to approve referrals. I got my referral approved after waiting for 1 month. 5 days prior to the appointment the facility calls me that Prospect hasn't sent over the authorization and that I will need to he rescheduled. That they have been trying to contact Prospect and no answers or response. I call them myself and no answer either. 40 minutes of being on hold and now my appointment that took me so long to get will now be cancelled because they can't send appropriate paper work over or answer a phone. read more

Crappy medical care :( I went into a waiting room of Acuity eye care Long Beach , opened the door of this small room and it was packed with people. Several had facemasks only on their months. Peeps coughing and sneezing. Several very elderly. Long Beach is having a resurgence of covid and me thinks this is the epicenter. Please people don't use this group. Worst experience in my life so far with a medical group. These people are so unprofessional it's so so sad . I was with this group for one month and I had to get the hell out . Thank god my medical insurance allows me to switch coverage when enrollment is closed.With this group everything is separate X-ray,lab work,everything is in other locations that you the patient have to find . Don't ask for a referral you'll never get a call back .The referral I needed was serious and detrimental to my health. The customer service department is very unprofessional. The reps were rude and at one point one rep raised her voice. I had a few questions but rep said she couldn't spend too much time on one call and that I would need to call back. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she was just as bad if not worse. I changed medical groups to Healthcare Partners and they have great customer service. They go above and beyond. I do not recommend this medical group. read more

The one star is for my doctor's office. Not the doctor. But his receptionist. If this were solely based on her, it'd be five stars. He basically just writes referrals. I can't rate that. As for the medical group, zero stars. Bogus referrals. Referrals to doctors who don't even accept their referrals anymore. And when you call to request an update/new referral, it's to a doctor miles away. (Mine was to a clinic. The woman who answered the phone didn't speak English. I asked!) On top of that, they never sent the updated referral to the new doctor (let alone mailed it to me). Call after call after call after call to get things squared away. And when you have a medical condition that requires ongoing meds, and getting to that doctor to get your prescriptions filled or suffer, this process is a NIGHTMARE! It's open enrollment time, so I was considering a change of plans that would supposedly give me a larger network of referrals. My doctor accepts one medical group that has doctors in my area of the city (Los Angeles metro area is huge and can consist of hours of driving in traffic), so I tried to find the number of specialists in various fields in my area for the types of referrals I may need in the future. Consumers want to look up information about the providers, read reviews, etc. Because Prospect has so many subsidiaries, the health plan provider's agent was seriously confused about the network. I spent an hour on the phone with the customer service rep who is specific to state employees (CalPers). She was so helpful, but there is a serious lack of clarity on the part of Prospect. I called THREE different days and spoke to numerous individuals to try to obtain the scope of the specialists in my area from Prospect directly. The website resulted in zero specialists several times, and the customer service reps were not only uninformed, they were often rude. They were not able to provide the level of professionalism one would expect from an IPA. I would put them at a level just below when I call to make an appointment for a hair cut. I tried, once again, to go back to the health plan website, but because there are more than 4 choices of Prospect groups, and a lack of information being provided to the health plan, it gave me zero information on which to base a decision that will cost more than $1,000 a year more for me and my family. The customer service reps at Prospect described an "internal" list that I would not have access to - only PCPs have access to that information. I reiterated that this does not help the consumer - the one who pays for the plan- at all. Once I saw similar complaints from the people who are already members, the decision was easy. Exactly what others have said. Horrible customer service. At first, I thought it was my doctor's office that was not processing referrals properly, but it turns out it's the medical group. They take forever to approve referrals, then try to send you to someone who is an hour or more away from where you live, even though there's a ton of them in the area. I've been waiting for one referral now for over a month. Every time you call, you're placed on hold for at least half an hour or more, and then get the runaround. If you do searches for any of Prospect Medical's offices on Yelp, they are consistently getting the lowest ratings possible. read more

Their customer service department is the pits. Calling to check the status of an auth. First time I called I had 9 callers ahead, 2nd time I called (because the auth was incorrect) I had 10 callers ahead of me, then I had to call again because Steven didn't want to do customer service today and when asked to speak with a manager he transferred me to some unknown answering service to leave a message. Now I'm on my third call today and now I have 12 callers ahead of me. They get nothing but thumbs down for their service. And by the way I stayed on each call holding from 10-30 minutes each time. This practice does not keep appointments available for sick patients and makes no effort to work you in. If you are sick and need to be seen, they will send you to one of their urgent care sites. Their brochures imply that this only happens during off hours, but in reality, all of their overflow goes to urgent care. read more

What's really frightening is that Prospect Medical Group's horrible customer service threatens the health, and ultimately the lives, of its members. In my case, I have been diagnosed with a condition that may be cancer, and Prospect won't give me a timely referral to see a specialist. I have been trying to get an appointment since early July. Prospect's first referral wasn't taking new patients. The second one had no appointments available until October. The third was many miles away in another city, and had no appointments until late August. The fourth, also in a far away city, can't see me until September. Since Prospect can't do its job, I managed to find a nearby specialist who can take me right away, at a very reasonable rate, but Prospect won't approve the referral, because the doctor is out of its network! They, of course CAN go out of network when necessary. What kind of an outfit treats its members like this? To make things even worse, my insurance company, the mighty Blue Shield, which has sanctioned Prospect, seems to be powerless when it comes to helping members who are victims of an uncaring, incompetent medical group. read more
