They not only completed our remodel they built the custom cherry fireplace mantle. We love our living room and it's exactly what we were looking for to update our home. They've also repaired our garage door and surround when our son drove the family van into the garage frame. Joseph and his crew are easy to work with, clean thoroughly and are professional in their behavior.

He didn't show up for the initial appt., and rescheduled for the following week- even then he was an hour late. We discussed the repairs and he said he would email an estimate. After hearing nothing for weeks, I reached out to him and he said he would have it by the end of the week. The following week, I reached out again and finally received an estimate. From there on, I would hear NOTHING from him unless I initiated contact. Then the excuses started.. I dealt with this man for three and a half months, with him ghosting me the entire time. At no time did he ever fulfill a promise, or meet a deadline. The last straw was him AGAIN failing to provide information on the repair. That was Feb. 25, and, you guessed it, CRICKETS! I have to wonder what part of "Do It Right" applies to his business.

He made personal attacks to justify his lousy work and long delays. My husband is a disabled Veteran and has Lewy Body Dementia. First off, Douglas Jeff Warren Jr of APEX Contractor Group likes to imply that people who leave him…read morebad reviews are lying, so I made sure we have a paper trail. I sued him in Campbell County court, case number 2024-CV-558, where I received a $10k judgement and court costs. If anybody reading this has also been hurt by this man, reach out to me here on Yelp, maybe I can help you. On September 7th, 2023, I paid him a 10k deposit on a 20k bathroom. This deposit is actually illegal; in TN code 62-6-510 it sets out that a deposit of more than 1/3 is illegal, a misdemeanor, and something that Jeff as a home improvement services provider should know. So we started the job out with a crime, and it frankly never got better. Jeff proceeded to continually push out the job start date, a few weeks to a month at a time, and what should have started in October eventually got a date out in January. Which also didn't happen. In fact, he never once set foot on my property again after he got my deposit. Eventually, on March 5th, 2024, six months after giving him ten thousand dollars and with absolutely no work done, I asked for my deposit back. He had me write up an essay on why I wanted that, for 'his bosses'. March 18th he tells me it takes 30 days to do a refund this large, because 'corporate'. This is also illegal, but I'm patient. April 15th he tells me the check is in the mail. UPS or FedEX. No tracking number was provided. Suprise the check did not arrive. April 27th I offer to go pick up the check in person, no reply on that. I mail a ten day deposit return request letter per TN code 39-14-154. He receives my certified letter on May 1st, 2024. May 2nd he texts saying the check was undeliverable, and 'they' want him to send 1000 from his own account as a 'test check', and this time he will send a tracking number. I inform him the amount is 10k and the 10 day clock provided by law ends on May 11th. I'm on vacation so I don't sue him immediately after the clock wraps up, maybe he will pay. May 13th he tells me he has the cashiers check and we can meet. We set a meeting for the 15th at 1pm. I leave my vacation early and drive several hours for this meeting, but he had no intention of showing. Instead, he texts telling me that because of the 10 day notice he now requires that I sign a document giving up my rights to talk about this or sue him, before he will give me back my deposit. This is also illegal, so I decline. I file the lawsuit same day, May 17th he gets served, which results in daily texts about how my money is totally for reals ready now, along with certified mail demanding I sign my rights away. I ignore these as we've got a court date already. June 3rd I am successful in Campbell County general sessions court. APEX Contracting Group was in administrative dissolution in TN from August till November of 2023 because he didn't do his paperwork, so he wasn't legally allowed to take on new work under this corporation. The court acknowledges this and I get a judgment against him personally, piercing the corporate veil. He tried to set up a payment plan for 500 a month, but I have no desire to give this man a two year loan, he is untrustworthy and unreliable. He still hasn't paid, so there is more escalation to come. He will protest that he's trying to pay me, but because there is a judgement all he has to do is walk down to the courthouse and pay in full. We never have to interact with each other ever again. And yet, its over three weeks since the judgement, and it remains unpaid.

I spoke with Lance and he scheduled a site visit to inspect my parents house in Knoxville. After site visit, I received a cost estimate for repairing water damage to main bathroom floor and replacing old toilet. We discussed further details and proceeded with ordering the flooring, toilet, and bedit seat. During demolition, his crew noticed subfloor was also damaged (see pics). I was notified right away, they had to purchase subfloor and a change order was submitted. Work was completed within 2 days and my parents were very happy with the finished work. All billing was done electronically, and receipts were autogenerated. We have a few more mini projects in the house and will contact Lance again. 5 starts for Big Bear Construction! I highly recommend for all your restoration needs.

Lance and his crew just finished a kitchen addition and remodel project for us, and I cannot say…read moreenough about his integrity, commitment to quality, communication, fair pricing, and flexibility. First of all, Lance stepped in when our original contractor had a medical emergency and could no longer complete the project. Lance was doing the footer work on our project and agreed to pick up where our contractor left off (with the same budget and timeline), and without much time to get to know each other and talk through our plans, I think we all crossed our fingers and hoped it would work out. It did. Beautifully. Lance navigated with ease and grace numerous city permits and inspections and so many supplier issues and architect flubs, including an incorrect measurement that ultimately required us to add a partial bathroom renovation to his contract. He personally checked on every aspect of our project, correcting work when it didn't meet his high standards and making sure his workers and subcontractors met deadlines and his expectations for workmanship. Every time I brought him an idea along the way, Lance was up for it and helped me figure out how we could make it work (much to my husband's chagrin at times!). When we called, Lance always answered, and he stayed in communication with us when we weren't on site, sending texts and pictures of progress daily throughout the almost 5 months of our project. After a few months, I trusted Lance to make decisions in my stead, and that says a lot, considering my Type A personality and specific design sense. He respects old houses and understood my aesthetic vision as well as my desire to preserve original elements of my 1940 cottage wherever possible. The end result speaks for itself. We consider Lance a friend now, but I think my hound dog Sadie misses her friend Lance and his crew most of all. Luckily for her, we have already called him about our next project.
