i see lot of "not good reviews , 1 star ??? If i had the opportunity to put 6 stars, i would. I went to them few years ago for a custom job. It wasn t cheap, but came out perfect and i was very happy. I have contacted them again last week for some special materials , which they didn t have in stock. Mister Dan in short time gave me the quote . Pretty honest price and the delivery time has been very much resonable. The gentleman came to my place to delivery was super professional and kind, hard to find in this days. Overall , i m very happy with PRW steel supply. I ll be back. read more

With excitement about my new project (a carved metal gate), I went to PRW for a 4' x 4' piece of 1/8th" steel. I wanted to see what types of metal they had. When I walked in 2 men were in the front office. One barely said "hello"; then both sat in their chairs and did not offer to help me. Finally, one man hesitantly got up to see what I wanted. I felt like I was back in the 70"s- treated like an ignorant and annoying female customer. I described my project and asked to see samples of the types of metals that I could use. This man clearly did not want to waste his time, didn't explain anything, nor work with me. Finally he showed me one ring of different sizes of the same type of metal. I asked about stainless steel and he said it was very expensive. I retorted- "do I look like someone who can't afford it?" What the heck. I could afford it, but was starting to feel like I would never give the insulting jerk my money. I was getting so deflated about this initially fun venture Fortunately, Jose, a wonderfully kind welder/technician from the back, came over and took me aside and offered to show me everything that might work for my project. He explained everything clearly, showed me samples and took care of me. I would never ever approach this store again given their rude, misogynistic, disinterested attitude unless I really needed materials and Jose could help me. Thank you Jose! Yes it's a nice new store, and they will sell to the retail customer. The guys in the warehouse are very knowledgeable, and their fabrication work is very good, although expensive and rather slow. I think they are just too busy. Where they fall short is at the counter. I dropped off a job and went back to check on it, they said it would be ready "soon". I went back to check again and they said I never left a credit card so they didn't do my job. They never asked for my card, plus they didn't have any of my contact info right even after I had them do another job for me. Never got bids, never got a call, and I check messages every hour if not every few minutes. For hobbyist type jobs try the little welding place around the corner on Golden Hill. They had my job back to me in a day at it was extremely reasonable. PR Steel is clearly too busy for small time customers and could care less. read more

This is a very nice new store. They have supplies for welding hobbyists as well as large fabrication jobs. You should check out their DIY Santa Maria-style BBQ kits! I had a very small project and needed a little piece of steel but they were still incredibly kind and customer service oriented. Went to PRW to get a basic order of materials for a diy project. The order consisted of: one 4x8 sheet of expanded metal, one 4x8 sheet of 16 gauge metal and two 4x4 sheets of 14 gauge metal. Pretty darn basic! The results... the sheet of expanded metal loaded on my truck was 4x10. I had to point out to the young fella that the order was for 4x8. Two days later, I received a phone call that the remainder of my order was ready for pickup. Upon arrival I waited at least 10 minutes in the front office prior to being helped. I then proceeded with my pick up ticket to the shop to retrieve my order. After waiting a good 10 minutes a young fella took my ticket and returned with a forklift loaded with at least 30 sheets of 4x8 metal. I proceeded to show him my order form which clearly indicated only one 4x8 sheet. He apologized and left only to return with another stack of at least 30 sheets of metal loaded on his forklift. At this point I return to the front office to get assistance and was assured my order was on the way to my truck. The forklift arrives for the third time with four cut pieces of metal clearly marked with someone else's name on the top sheet. After pointing this out the young fella, he leaves again. After a short wait here comes the forklift for the fourth time. Hey this time the name is correct but both sheets of material are cut into 48x48" pieces. (I kid you not!!) the young fella loads the two half sheets of the correct gauge material. Apologizes again and quickly returns with the correct gauge 4x8 sheet of material. I was at PRW for at least an hour just to pick up a basic supply order. I would hate to see what would have happened had the ordered been any more complicated. I will not recommend PRW to anyone nor shall I ever to business with them again. read more
