On the way back from camping in Hershey, PA, I saw the sign for the apples. To my happy surprise it was much more than apples & the Owners were happy to assist & offer samples. After I got my apples & sweet potatoes I took a quick look at the hundreds of apple trees located behind the enormous barn aka market. & those trees were just a small part of the massive acreages of various fruit trees. There's a calendar that provides a listing of produce - Plums, Cantaloupes, Nectarines & summer items - Honey, Peppers & a various of Nuts available through out the year. Their website offers detailed information this third generational family farm. The market is open daily 8A-6P, June 15th to November 15th, & Pryor Orchard is GAP-Good Agriculture Practices certified. I just returned from Pryor's Orchard and witnessed the rudest sales person. He chastised rudely an elderly woman who had mistakenly started to walk behind the counter. In a loud voice, he stopped her and then shouted "Can't you read?" I'm ashamed of myself that I didn't call him out on this rude interaction. After all these years of shopping at and recommending Pryor's, I'll find another orchard to buy my fruits and veggies. read more

As an Asian, I was initially concerned about the reviews on here. But looking at some of the profiles of the people who wrote them, I decided to try the farm out anyway. We were looking for a PYO sweet cherry orchard that was not picked out and this was it, as we already hit Baughers. The place is a smaller quiet farm. You hit the farmhouse where the farm stand is. They sell a couple of things they plant and with no BS fresh produce you see other farms try to re-sell (this ain't a supermarket.) Guy who ran it is easy going, friendly and direct. The cherries were 5 minute walk uphill, with this other guy eager to offer golf cart rides. The farm is the nicest, cleanest and well manicured farm I can recall going to. There were plenty of trees in the pick section, and there were not many people picking (maybe 10 trees per person), with about half being minorities. We filled our bucket on 1-2 trees. Yes, the farm stand guy would come and inspect the field cause yes this well cared for farm looks like his baby. The price was fair, we had a good time and were treated well. I am happy I didn't put much stock in other reviews and gave this place a try. Am looking forward to return next week. This farm is a departure from your standard big commercial operation amusement park farms in the DC area where things are crowded and you feel like you are just another farm hand in a field of hundreds of pickers (even during COVID days.) It's a bit further out but you get what you put in. I came here to visit an authentic farm, and got what I was looking for, especially the picturesque well-cared for farm. Enjoy! read more

Small orchard. Came all the way to Thurmont to pick blueberries. Cactoctin was closed so the next closest one was here. The blueberry bushes weren't that great. The had a selection of peaches, apples, other berries. The price of the blueberries were good. The lady there was helpful and nice. Make sure to wear a hat during summer picking time and protect yourself from insects. read more

Well I just went to Pryors Orchard in Thurmont to buy peaches and they would not sell me a half a bushel even though they have tons of peaches in there they wanted to sell me a half a peck at 14:50 a piece he said it would take four of those to make a half a bushel do the math they were selling them half a bushel for $29 before... they have a Facebook page but there's no place to post a comment or I would tell them that that is a bad business practice because I ended up buying nothing!!! read more

Took my daughter and her friend cherry picking here today. Friendly staff drove us up to the orchard in a golf cart, which the kids really enjoyed. Beautiful views of Thurmont and surrounding mountains--in fact, the scenery was my favorite aspect of the whole trip. I just enjoyed being there and seeing the view. I should mention that they fire air guns every now and then to scare the birds away from the cherries, and it can be...startling. No one told us in advance. After ducking and covering the first few times, we were cool with it. You've been warned. We picked for about 20 minutes and got about 5 lbs. of cherries. We had a great time and plan to go back in a few days for blueberries. Store sells jams and jellies, tomatoes, pre-picked cherries, nuts, and other fresh produce. Remember to bring cash--they do not accept credit cards. Also take a container (or just some plastic bags) if you are picking your own. They will give you a bucket to use, but you need something to put your produce in when you leave. read more

I've never felt more disrespected in all my time in Frederick than by the owners of this place. She singled out me and other black friend and yelled at and degraded us in front of other families when we were simply just minding our business and Cherry picking and then she tried to direct us to buy the wrong, none ripe cherries. On the way back to pay she said to us "did you guys pick Cherries" we responded with yes which she then proceeded to look us up and down and responded "you look like you ate more than you picked" (we did not eat a single cherry while cherry picking) read more

I usually never post on Yelp because I never felt I had the need to, however this is the one time I truly felt like I needed to say something. My experience here was less than positive, to put it lightly and what started out as a pleasant morning turned very quickly to a sour and negative moment. The staff working here were very sweet to us and told us we could get down to pick this island and the young girl working would be back to allow us to go to another island shortly since this island had already been picked before. Very helpful staff, right? Just like any other hand-picking farm, we were allowed to taste some berries before we collected them since it isn't too unreasonable to eat a few before purchasing 3-4lbs worth. When I bent down to try the berries on the new island we were brought to, the landowner scolded me at once that it was "absolutely ridiculous to be just standing around eating the berries", when in fact I had only picked one berry to taste, and was continuing my picking. Stunned by her hostile tone, I told her that she was right and kept my head down as I was truly in shock about what had just happened. Not realizing she made me and everyone around me extremely uncomfortable, she continued to tell us we must stop picking at our blueberry bush and move to the other one over, which was just 2 ft away, on the same island. Seeing as how petty and insignificant this move was, I felt she just had a problem with me and my family. We told her that we could move, however it wasn't fair to us because everyone else was allowed to freely hop around islands and it only seemed she was fixated on us. This claim, as you might assume, made her furiously angry and she began to harangue us. I felt we just told it as it is and she became very defensive. I have talked to several people in the area since I've grown up in Maryland my whole life and we have heard very negative experiences with this lady. The other workers were pleasant with us and were in fact extremely helpful. I would say if you came to this place to avoid the elderly lady landowner, as she is extremely rude and her actions were completely unjustified. Take your family to Catoctin Mountain Farms as its probably a better bet. read more

This place is great if you're looking for apples. Which I assume you are if you're here; it's an orchard, after all. They have a fabulous array of them, even later in the season when I went. I was a little disappointed though; the sign on the road advertising the place listed a bunch of other products they had, like honey, pumpkins, etc. But when we got there, it was pretty bare aside from the apples. I'm sure it's better earlier in late September/early October for fall-type produce. I know they also have pick-your-own cherries and blueberries when they're in season, though. :) read more

It's a real treat to get up to Pryor orchard. The staff has gotten this down to a smooth operation. They know how to keep the prices down. I bought a bushel of apples and a bushel of pears at fantastic prices. If you're looking for the fruit to be all the same size without any little imperfections, this is not the place for you. Stick to Whole Foods and Whole Foods prices. I read several of the negative reviews before my last visit; so I asked them about it. The Orchard's other side of the story is important and missing from the reviews. I heard that a few customers go through the fruit when they get to the car and then want to return the ones that aren't perfect. If there's something really wrong with the fruit they will make it right. But if getting fruit all the same size is that important to you, spending more somewhere else is probably for you. Be kind to your farmers and they will be kind to you. read more

My family and I went blueberry picking this morning to celebrate 4th of July. as we were picking blueberries, a of a sudden this lady that works there started screaming very loudly at everyone to not eat the blueberries and to wear masks. There was no clear sign saying that we had to wear masks outside and that people couldn't eat the blueberries while picking them. Everywhere else that I have gone to pick berries, the default rule is that you can eat while you pick, and then you pay for what you take out! that's what makes picking blueberries fun, otherwise we could just go to the supermarket and purchase them there. All the same, I would've been fine if she had said all that in a polite manner, but her tone and attitude was clearly out of line. They clearly do not care about their customers there. And the cherry on top was that she told people to wear masks while she wasn't even wearing one,not even hanging around her neck or ears! Also, all groups of people were keeping way more than 6 ft distance from one another. This orchaed needs to work on their customer service or else they will lose a lot of money. There are plenty of other places to go blueberry picking where they actually care about the customers, so I'm not going back there again. read more

When you come to this quaint Orchard you arrive at a beautiful, quiet and wonderful paradise. The flowers and the buildings are all well kept and beautiful. The produce all looks very fresh and is fresh. We recently bought there Green Apples and were amazed at the flavor packed in them. They were delicious and decadent. I suggest visiting this Orchard to grab some fresh fruit for the home. With the a large variety of different fruits it really is a great place to go. read more

The orchard and grounds are beautiful, and the vegetable garden is a plot in front of the family house; everything looks well cared for, like home-grown, and I thought the staff was very nice (including presumably the owner's wife.) The variety changes day to day, and the prices are very reasonable; nothing is in large supply right now except the peaches (the awesomest Redhavens are in), which were sweet and juicy, the best I ever had (and my Dad used to grow them.) The large beefsteak type tomatoes were picked a little under-ripe, but that was fine because they weren't bruised, and ripened perfectly in a couple days by the kitchen window, ended up being juicy and mild (not too acidy), just what I wanted. The string-beans were super fresh and tasty, OMG, I ate the whole bag in one day and went back for more 2 days later; got some great fresh corn too, but that was gone the second visit. The zucchini are $1 each for medium sized, 1.50 for large (waiting to be stuffed or grated for zucchini bread- yum!) much better than store bought, and taste like 'butta'! I was disappointed the blueberries are PYO only (I can't), but the large, ripe, honeysweet cantaloupe more than made up for it. NIce variety of McCutcheon's jams too, including some I'd never seen before (raspberry lemon marmalade for $3.50) and even some sugar free. This place is definitely on my regular weekly rotation now. read more

However, I am used to buying one tomatoe at a time, and this weekend when I went to get one I was told they could no longer do that? Why not?? Saturday was the most embarrassing moment since we moved to frederick county. We use to love going to Pryor's Orchard for years during the summer to pick blue berries and sweet cherries. This time I've invited 2 new families from our community to pick fruits from Pryor's Orchard. The parents and children was so happy to experience picking and visiting a farm. The happiness ended as soon as the farm owner started yelling at us for picking cherries that was instructed by one of the employee. Everything we did went wrong in the eyes of the owner after that. She also went out of her way to escort us to the blue berries area and stood at the end of the row like a hawk watching us as we picked the blue berries. I thought we were the customer instead we were treated like prisoners. Ten minutes later she told us that the farm is closing in 5 minutes at 1030am. We ask the farm employee, are you guys closing early? He stated "no", "we are closing at 1 pm". We paid for the fruits that we picked, it may have taken about 15 minutes to complete our transaction. So as we proceeded to depart the farm, we saw the other people still in the farm picking blue berries. The owner was so rude to me, my family, and my guests that we will never go there again. I've never felt discriminated until that day. If anyone wants fresh fruits, go to Catoctin Mountains Orchard instead. read more

don't bother, they do not want your business. we walked in at 5:26 to ice a pint of blueberries. the employee working did not look up, she continued packing up for the night. i said excuse me how does the pick your own work. she never looked up and said you have to be out of here in fifteen minutes , as she glanced at the clock. I looked at the clock and said you mean a half an hour, she said you can leave at ten of...again, never looking up . there was no hello, no gee I'm packing up early tonight...just gruff rude bad behavior. as she walked further away (she never approached me to begin with) i said what do we put the blueberries in, she mumbled something in an aggressive irritated tone about where right outside to pick and walked away again. i said never mind this is already an extremely negative experience and started to walk out as i heard her mumbling what she thought about my comment as i left. really really weird. we didnt want to be there for three hours...we wanted one pint of blueberries and the patch was right next to the building. so rude, so negative. if i could have given this place zero stars i would have. read more
