What a beautiful country club located back near Powell Road. Lavish country club with all the…read moreamenities from the ballroom, workout area to the golf course. I came here because I found out about the Wedgewood Health Fair last weekend. It went very well all the local vendors were there from Kroger's to Massage Envy and Ohio State Medical Center. I found it very useful since I didn't know I had problem areas in my back and there were chiropracter's and sports medicines experts there to help me address these issues I've been having from sports injuries to car accidents and stress. Now I can feel relieved from the comfort of these experts and will be making an appointment soon to address my back issues, thanks to the health fair. In addition, the Columbus Zoo was there with a few animals. I only saw the baby kangaroo as you can see from the pictures I took. There were many others there earlier in the day. Thanks Wedgewood for hosting this great event and I hope to be back here soon to check out the facility either for an event or workouts.

The board game library is extensive and a great way to try new games before buying them. Sometimes you'll even run into folks onsite who are playtesting games that aren't even available yet. Or maybe you are a fledgling designer yourself and want to try out your own game on folks. There is a regular sub-meeting just for designers like you where you can do that and get advice from some experienced, published designers who are CABS members. A recently added feature has been the support from the Columbus food truck community. Nearly every week you have the opportunity to eat from one of the growing number of mobile food vendors in Columbus with pickup right outside the doors. You support local business and you don't need to spend much of your precious gaming time worrying about it. Check the facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/cabs.boardgaming/) for details on which truck is coming each meeting. Additionally, snacks and drinks are provided onsite for minimal fee (generally $0.50 each). Part of the snack income helps defer membership costs, so outside food and drink is discouraged. No alcohol permitted at any meeting. Meetings alternate most weeks between Friday and Saturday. Hours vary a bit, but generally run from 3:00pm - 3:00am Friday and 10:00am-3:00am on Saturday. Check the calendar at http://buckeyeboardgamers.org/calendar for the complete schedule. Meetings are free-form with some scheduled events mixed in throughout the year, but generally CABS is just a space to play a game with new or old friends. It can be a bit daunting, the first time, but please know that folks are generally very friendly. If you aren't sure what to do, ask for a member of the board of directors to show you around. There is always at least one onsite. They will show you the ropes and most likely help you get involved in a game right away. Or you can always grab a game off the shelf and try it out. Orange traffic cones are provided to let others know you are interested in meeting new people and having them join you. Kids are welcome at all meetings except for the first Friday meeting every month which is dedicated to adults-only (18+). It is expected that you are onsite and monitoring your kids as necessary. At least that is what I thought back in 2009 when I first discovered this place. Now - at the time I was a novice to board gaming. Sure I played Monopoly or Battleship, but this was something more. Its not just a place for people to play games, is a community. The first time I walked into this place, I was nervous. Not sure what to expect or how many people would be there. I was very pleased and reassured. Not only was I greeted at the Door by a board member for the club, I was given the tour and immediately asked to join in the fun. I didn't know then... but this opened my world to a whole new form on entertainment. Being a gamer , as in board gaming, was something new to me. So I didn't know where to start or learn games. Here they have people who are more then happy to teach a game to you. They will let you play the game at your learning pace -despite being able to breeze through the game on memory of playing. There is food trucks that come to the meetings and it varies each time. There are snacks available for purchase to munch on through out the day. Lets talk about the games they have... with well over 750+ games in their library they have everything from kids games , to card games, to euro and war games. This is a place for all gamers. They even have a Designer's group where people create and play test games. Its great to be involved in such a community of gaming, and as years have past the gaming community has just grown. Your first visit is totally free, and if you return again and again its only $5.00 a visit. You can chose to join, and become a full member with CABS. Honestly the prices have changed several times over the years. I do know that the 2015 rate will be $80 for returning members and $49.00 for new members (not having been apart of CABS in the last 3 years) The Membership includes: Access to the ever growing Library (currently 750+ games) Free admittance to Buckeye Game Fest. (locally ran by CABS) 4 day gaming event Ability to 'check out' games from the library An All General Meeting in December (with holiday potluck) After Turkey Day - 36+ hour gaming event Discounts at local gaming stores 41+ meetings in a year (Friday/Saturday alternating usually) CABS has become a place where I love going. Every volunteer is knowledgeable and friendly. What a wonderful organization to have in our Central Ohio community -- and we are all the luckier for it. The fest is worth it at $10 per person, in my opinion. It helps support the center and that's a win. They have programming all year. Just be sure to get tickets early, as they get popular! Also: best maple syrup ever! I love it so much!

I surprised my sweetie with a Maple Syrup Tour at Stratford Ecological Center on a crisp late…read morewinter morning. For the bargain price of $4 per person, I was expecting to spend approximately 30-40 minutes in a room learning about the syrup making process. Being wrong never felt so good! Having a reservation which I had paid for in advance, we checked in promptly where they suggested we borrow some of their boots due to muddy conditions & that proved needed as the terrain deiced. How awesome is that! Once everyone had their boots on we met fireside where our guide introduced herself, provided history of their facility & informed us of what to expect during our experience. Next stop: animal barn! Being the animal lover that I am, this was my absolute favorite part. Not only did I not know that this was included (bonus!), but I was so grateful to be able to get up close to the new calf & her mommy & see the oh so pregnant piggie. Even better we got to get in the sheep pin & the goat/llama pins where we could pet these adorable creatures. My heart was so happy I almost never wanted to leave, but it was time to move onto our next adventure... maple syrup! The walk from the animal barn to the maple syrup area was about 20 minutes. I imagine this varies based on weather conditions & the amount & ages of those on your tour. The scenery was absolutely breath-taking as the sun peeped through the leafless trees, casting beautiful shadows about. There was a dusting of snow on the ground & a crisp, icy terrain on the ground & the creek. As we walked we stopped periodically to learn about how to identify maple trees, the variety of maple trees in our area & all about how the seasons impacts the process. We got to see the process firsthand & I was surprised to see that the sap is clear. Once we arrived at the cabin we learned about the filtration system and the science of the sap to syrup process where we got to tast the sap & then the syrup. It is absolutely delicious & pure in taste without the senseless added sugar commonly found in those found in stores. Another interesting & entertaining moment came when we were shown how hot stones were placed in water inside a hollowed-out log. This experience delivered a lot of bang for your buck & it felt really good to support this local working farm. I am going to be sure to check their website for future events to explore.

The course is the most awesome course, not a divot in the fairway to the greens being beautiful and lush with green grass. The signature holes are to die for!! The restaurant is always a fam fav, with great food and specials they serve. They have so many events for young and old, they do a killer job incorporating members and people of all ages! This review is solely based on the volleyball at Volleypark. I have never been inside to experience…read morethe bowling or anything else provided here. The Volleypark is definitely off the beaten path in a place you wouldn't expect. You get off of the highway, turn into a neighborhood, and eventually you'll get there. The sand is some of the softest sand you can find in the Columbus area. This is also one of the only places in Columbus where you can find leagues for doubles. Other places have 4s and 6s, but this is the only place that always has doubles leagues for both men, women or coed that I know of. They also have 4s and 6s. They do not have any dome or coverage, so sand volleyball is only available in the warmer seasons of the year. Staff is always friendly, and there are 5 courts.

First off let me preface this by saying my review only encompasses the volleyball itself, and not…read morethe attached bowling alley, Sequoia Lanes. The VolleyPark is definitely off the beaten path; you have to travel through a residential neighborhood before coming across a little strip of businesses that are right next to it. The VolleyPark has some of the best sand of the various places that I've played around Columbus. It's clean, not overly sticky, and I've not found a single rock in the sand in all of my time playing there. The side and back nets are high enough that balls rarely fly from one court to the next, and the competition is not half bad. I mostly play here with the CYP recreation league, so it's not too intense, but I've also played in some of VolleyPark's additional tournaments on the weekends, which are a blast. Some of their special event tournaments include beer-in-hand, and BeerOlympics. It's an all around good time. The food prices and drink prices are pretty fair too; my personal favorite is the grilled chicken wrap with only buffalo sauce & lettuce. It's less than $5, and pretty filling. My only gripe about VolleyPark is that they don't have any courts that are truly sized for 6v6 action. I had hoped when they added the two new courts that they would make them 6v6, but they're not. Hopefully in the future they'll be able to get a hold of some of the land taken up by the blight of an abandoned swimming pool right next door, and convert it into additional courts.
