I explored several highly recommended professionals from Ivy League backgrounds, but for some reason, my heart never felt at peace until I met Dr. Hertler. Dr Hertler charged a fortune for a cognitive evaluation of my partner and gave back only the basics required. What he provided was wildly out of step with the cost of the testing. It was very difficult to get in touch with him. In addition, despite repeated requests for clearer charts, he never responded to our calls and emails. My advice is to avoid this practitioner. read more

We had the assessment done here at the end of August because this practice was in-network in our Cigna medical plan and he was available to do it quickly and for less money. Well, you get what you pay for. The report took much longer to be delivered (said he'd give it to us in a week), and didn't include written recommendations. We set up a call to talk to Dr. Hertler, and he was not there when we called. Half-an-hour later, he called us back from his car, but when I asked specific questions about the report, he said he didn't have the report in front of him. He never gave us written recommendations and didn't perform some tests that we thought were included. He did NOT submit the bill to our insurance company and made us pay him up front for the services. When I asked him about this nearly 3 weeks later, he said that he would have his part time assistant do it. It's now the beginning of November, and it has not been submitted. He is giving us a story about how it can take a few months for the claim to even be submitted. Our next step is to complain to Cigna because I was told by someone that it is illegal for an in-network provider to demand payment up front. Stay away! read more

He comes across as a person with integrity who is dedicated to his profession. My report was extremely detailed and it helped me to very specifically identify my strengths and weaknesses. I recommend him highly as someone who has the knowledge, experience, and patience to make an accurate diagnosis. We saw Dr. Steven Hertler for a learning evaluation of our high-school-age child in October 2020. Dr. Hertler put my nervous child at ease, and then conducted an extensive in-person evaluation. His communication with us before, during, and after the evaluation was always thoughtful and immediate, and we received his lengthy, detailed report quickly following our visit. While every aspect of our time with Dr. Hertler was extremely positive, the quality of his assessment is probably the most important. His evaluation contained insight from his personal observations and testing data, and his well-documented report assisted us (as parents), helped the school's administration and teachers, and guided medical treatment providers, going forward. We showed up on time for our appointment but Dr. Hertler was on a phone call so we waited in the hallway. We could hear him loudly discussing something about formatting a Word document on speaker phone. He made no acknowledgement that he was running late for our appointment, just handed us some forms to fill out while he continued this apparently urgent formatting discussion. After 30 minutes we left. Getting a professional, accurate neuropsychological evaluation requires trust and respect. I felt neither in this situation. I'll be taking my son elsewhere so I can feel confident that he's getting the careful, attentive, professional service that he deserves. read more
