For our last night in Montreal, we wanted to bring our dog to dinner with us. There are many terrasses in Montreal that could have easily accommodated our needs, but I saw the courtyard/garden at the Burgundy Lion which looked like a great space, plus they are dog friendly. I made a dinner reservation and made a note that we would like to sit in the courtyard/garden and that we would be bringing a dog. When we arrived, we were told we could not sit in the courtyard/garden, since we would have to enter the restaurant to access the courtyard/garden, and that dogs are not allowed inside. This was not a big deal, but I wish they could have let me know in advance. The restaurant had a terrasse outside which was dog friendly, and where we were directed to sit instead. Overall, service was good. One of the employees stopped by a few times to offer my dog water, which was very sweet of him. I expected the food at the Burgundy Lion to be mediocre, we didn't particularly come for the food, but for the fact that they are dog friendly. I had a salad, but this was such a well- made salad, and the portions were huge. I enjoyed it immensely. My husband also enjoyed his fish and chips. It seems I make it here every time I visit Montreal. Proper Pub with wood decor, cool Bar area, and second level. We got here around 5 Sunday afternoon and they were semi busy. We started with a couple of Beers. Murphy's Irish Stout and Burgundy Ale. Both were enjoyed with the Ale having a golden color and lighter than expected. A local Blonde Ale it was. We weren't ready for dinner but wanted a snack so we ordered the English Poutine with Prime Rib Roast Beef to share. A generous portion with tasty Roast Beef-the hearty gravy took it over the top. They have an extensive Whisky collection although we didn't get to sample any this time. Seems to be the English Premier League games viewing Bar. Breakfast is served on the weekends. Service was good overall although we had a bit of a delay for a Club Soda order. Overall, one of the top Montreal Pubs. read more

They offer brunch till 2 pm We came there at 1pm with a reservation, we were automatically seated, our waitress was really nice and friendly. This place was pretty much a full house. For drinks we got the Brazilian coffee and an espresso martini, both of these were good, but if you are not ready to get a drink that tastes like alcohol at that time I don't suggest to get these because they were strong but we definitely enjoyed them. For food we got he full English breakfast and the Arnold's Scottish Benedict. They were both good but I LOVED the potatoes, it was very well seasoned and cooked with a lemony flavor. The only thing that I would say I didn't like what the blood pudding croquette, not to my taste at all. And another thing was that the full English breakfast came with a very place piece of bacon,ham and sausage which was almost like a tease. But overall is gonna a good breakfast taste wise. I really love the Irish vibe, so if you are someone that loves the Irish vibe this is definitely the pub for you. They seem to be open everyday till 3am and seem to have different specials everyday. I also loved the wodden affect and the frames and pictures on the wall, it's a very cozy place to be. They have 2 floors and bathrooms on both floors, the bathrooms are individual and very clean. Excellent fish and chips! I was wary because most of the reviews were from years ago (which is why I'm taking the time to write this one) With Covid, this was a take-out order. We walked down (3 blocks) to the Lachine Canal and ate by the water. The man who served it told us where to walk to. He also gave us utensils and plenty of condiments. Often I find fish and chips is more batter and little fish. This was EXCEPTIONAL. It was 2 meaty pieces of cod. The mashed peas tasted fresh picked and buttery. Loved the grain mustard in the tartar sauce - lovely addition. YELP needs updated as it show $16 for the fish and chips; it is $19. Would recommend this and we will visit again. read more

I love this place! Solid, delicious, hearty food with some great cocktails, nice servers and a fun ambiance. We don't live especially close to it, but we will go out of our way to come here. I love the prime rib/prime rib sandwich. Flavorful, salty, fatty meat that's good on a plate with veggies or with melted cheese on a sandwich. Can't go wrong really. My husband (who is half British and lived in England for a bit) loves the Ploughman's, which comes with so many different little bites of meat, cheese, pickled items and crusty bread. It's pretty hearty despite being on the "peckish" side of the menu. The chicken tikka masala is also well done if you feel like something else. They have an interesting cocktail menu and changing specials made by great bartenders. Looking forward to being able to come back here for some hearty winter fare when they can open again! read more

A second try at this place, not for breakfast, just for drinks after dinner across the street, and it was a much better experience. We sat at the bar, my best friend and I, and made fast friends with a couple of men next to us. The bartender was so much fun, regularly jumping in on whatever we were all talking about and making us laugh. The drinks flowed nicely all evening. Arrived with some friends from out of town, we were a party of 4. Was told by the host that it would be approximately a 20 minute wait. Waited a full hour while being shoved by rude staff. We watched two tables vacate, and when we asked the staff if we would be able to be seated, they told us the tables got reserved via telephone. When we saw a third table vacate - we once again asked the staff, whom told us all 3 tables we saw vacate (which were sitting empty), got reserved by telephone while we were standing there waiting. We came here in a group of 12 during the World Cup 2018 viewing party that they were hosting for the Portugal vs. Iran game and it was a pretty fun time! It was extremely crowded so we were lucky to get 1 table and then share half of another one with other people. There are 3 levels and TVs everywhere so you'll never miss a play. The restrooms are on the 2nd floor but they were pretty small and not very clean. The women's restroom door was open which was a bit off putting since men walk passed to get to men's restroom. The bar area was big but it took a bit to get the bartender's attention because of the crowd. My friend ordered the yogurt parfait and she wasn't too pleased with her. I told her why would she come to a pub and order that but to each her own. I got the fish and chips and shared with some people and it got devoured because we were hungry and it was good. You could never go wrong with fish and chips at a pub. Overall, it was a fun experience and I'm not being a super harsh critic since it was packed for the game which meant slower service yet more demands. Coming home from Tremblant, my friends and I wanted to stop by Montreal and eat somewhere so my boyfriend told us about this place and I thought it was promising. There is only Street parking so be prepared to look for a place to park since it's a busy area. When we got inside my boyfriend had made reservations so we were seated quickly. The menu had various options so my friends and I ordered two fish and chips (one with poutine, and one without), Samoa's, chicken tikki masala, steak frites (medium), and Mac and cheese. I also ordered a cocktail which had gin and cucumbers. Very refreshing! So this is where everything went downhill: So my friends steak frites came out and it LOOKED really good... Brussel sprouts and fries with steak. A promising presentation but when my friend cut into his steak it was well done. Looked dry and so he was a little disappointed. We told our waiter that the steak was dry so we ordered a different dish (another chicken tikki masaala), and when my friends fish and chips with poutine came out there was no poutine either. Disappointing. Again. So we had told the chef that we ordered poutine. He said it wasn't in the ticket and took the plate. Came back and said again it wasn't on the ticket and to discuss with the waitress. IMO, I felt like that was a waste of time taking his dish to the back and then not adding the poutine. Luckily, our waitress KNEW she had put the poutine in our ticket so he ended up getting the poutine. The Mac and cheese was my absolute favorite!!! I haven't had Mac and cheese in so long but it was super cheesy, not dry and a great portion to share with a group of four. Their chicken tikki masala was not my favorite. Had a weird taste to it but I enjoyed the fish and chips! Came with mashed peas, tartar sauce, lemon and vinegar. My boyfriend asked for a refill on coffee but the waiter had given him cold coffee when he wanted hot. My boyfriend mentioned it to him, but the waiter just simply said "it's good right? It's French"! Ummm okay lol..... everyone got a refill on their water but when I asked the waiter simply walked away. I thought that was funny to me. Overall the experience here was.... less than satisfactory... I wouldn't come back here simply because the service was just not that good. This pub never disappoints. I've been here multiple times on different days and even when I think there's no space, they somehow manage to seat us. We were a little sad to not get a table and to be seated at the bar instead. However, the joke was on us as it was definitely more private and as it tends to get loud as the night goes on, we were still able to hear each other and not have to hell across the table. Their menu has many of their specialty cocktails but ask for any other and they'll happy to make it for you, a big 5 star to the staff. What a fantastic pub! Stopped here on St. Andrew's Day for some scotch eggs and we were not disappointed. The interior was warm, inviting and lively. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We didn't have just one waiter. The entire staff works as a team. Any of them walking by your table will offer to get you a drink, take your order, clear your plates or bring you a dessert menu. No one said, "let me get "your" server". It was in every sense of the word a team effort. I wish more restaurants would run this way. It was an amazing experience. The food itself was delicious. I started with a Bloody Caesar (which is a spicy Bloody Mary with Clamato instead of tomato juice, if you're not familiar) and for my meal got a scotch egg side and the full English breakfast with poached eggs and crumpets. The bloody was spicy and delicious and the breakfast was huge. The scotch egg came with some kind of horseradish condiment that was surprisingly good. The English breakfast came with thick slab bacon, sausage, blood sausage, beans, grilled tomato, two eggs, two crumpets, the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had, with a delicious ketchup (which was unexpected since I usually hate ketchup- there was something really tasty in this one though). Cocktails are around 12$ each and my choice was a mojito style Pimms (an English liquor). MUST TRY. It comes with cucumber and mint. Delicious. To start, Bully Beef Toast ($13) Corned beef on pain brioche, aged cheddar, sweet pepper mix. Oh boy!!! Awesome! The sweet pepper mix comes with sweet onion... The beef is just amazing. My main course was an Angus Burger (16$) AAA Angus burger, cheddar cheese and house chips. What can go wrong with an AAA Angus?! The fries were delicious. I've just missed the mayo maison. My partner's main course was the Cambridgeshire Salad (17$) Grilled chicken salad, Stilton, pears, walnuts.
