Amazing old Irish pub since 1912 I believe. Many, many taps to choose from. Service was great. Local gathering spot for soccer games.
The coziest Irish pub with all the fixings! Solid food, great beer selection & friendly staff. We stumbled on this place walking to our hotel & we're SO glad we did. If we were local, we'd be here to watch every hockey game.
The union that I belonged to had their Christmas party at this place. This was the first time that I've been to this pub which is surprising since when I was a student at Concordia, I never visited this place even though it is located close by to Concordia University (back then in my university days, I would go to Peel Pub). As I only had the food options ordered by the union, I can't really speak about how good the food is at McKibbin's Irish Pub since I wasn't really into the food that the union selected. I did like their chicken wings but will likely give their food a try the next time I decide to go to McKibbin's. I thought that the music being played was good and the type of music that I normally listen to (top 100 type of music). This place also has free WiFi.
So in my early days of visiting Montreal for business I had to research the best wings in the city. A few places came up and this was one of them. Needless to say, I've been here 5 times and I don't even live in Canada. I also haven't tried wings anywhere else. Lol. Here's why... Atmosphere/Appearance: I mean... it's a pub, true and true. Downstairs is more of a speakeasy where you do mostly drinking. Upstairs is the full-service restaurant, but still a very Irish bar indeed. Lol. For the warmer months there is an entire backyard-like section located outside which is where we sat the first time. The second time we sat right in the bar for happy hour, but the other 3 times were all carry-out because I wanted to eat in my room. It's always lively in here and certainly the place to watch all the sports games you want. Service: Natalie was our server the first time and she was okay... It took her a while to come back a couple of times, but it's all good. She was sweet and took great care of us otherwise. Caroline took care of us the 2nd time and since we were right in the bar there wasn't very far for her to walk for the things we needed. Lol. Food: I've only had wings here and for good reason. I've tried all 6 sauces (minus the wing challenge), them being Medium, Buffalo Hot, Thai Chili, Honey Garlic, Guinness BBQ, Lime & Steak Spice Dry Rub and my 2 favorites are the 2nd and 5th. With the Guinness BBQ you'll need a side of extra sauce because the amount they give you just isn't enough. The wings are also huge. They aren't rinkydink and one order will fill up the average man. Value: All prices in $CAD. Chicken wings never seem to be cheap, but this place is no exception. An order of 12 wings comes with a side of fries or salad for $21.00. That's a bit steep for sure, but... at least you get a side to come with it. The salad is an extra $3.00. Not bad, but I've come back 4 more times for the food so it must be worth it. In conclusion, do I really need to say anything? Lol. I will be back here this week since I fly there tomorrow and the following day. Thanks for reading.
Great Irish pub. Fresh Guinness, good bar set up, great pub food, live bands, shows NFL Football live on Sunday. I lived in New York for 20 years, so I know something about pubs. I do believe this is the best I have found in Montreal so far! Try it, let me know what you think.
Awesome Irish pub in Montreal! We were looking for a change of pace from all the local bars/clubs. The staff was exceptional! The bouncer, bartenders and servers made us feel right at home. We even ended up taking shots with them. We ordered chicken strips and fries. They were awesome! Definitely not your usual frozen chicken. We could tell it was fresh. Highly recommended for beers and great bar food!
This is a review of their Monday Trivia Night. It was my first time going to a trivia night so I wasn't expecting much but I did have some issues with the way it was organized. -It was loud and the host never circled the room so everyone could hear equally -They didn't stop cheaters -They didn't have categories for the subjects of the questions asked -They weren't organized so it took longer than it should have to get through all the questions Issues I had with the service: -The waitress got mixed up a lot. Didn't know which drinks went to whom and incorrectly billed some of my friends. -Slow even though the place wasn't that packed when we started ordering. Food choices were eh and expensive. Their drinks were very standard. I know this is kind of a staple if you go to Concordia or live in the area, but it's very standard to me. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit.
A surprisingly clean pub near Concordia University. We stopped in for a late lunch and were greeted by a friendly staff person who appeared to be taking a break by the door but still wanted to be welcoming. I definitely appreciated that! I had a properly pulled Guinness and fish and chips. The fish was better than the chips, but I can be pretty picky about chips. The menu had a good selection of pub food, so I'll check it out again the next time I'm in Montreal. We sat on the back patio, which was great for a summer afternoon. The service was prompt and courteous. Good prices on the drinks and food, so I'll be back!
McKibbins used to have the best veggie burgers in town, but I'm sad to report that is no longer the case. I had someone bring me one as takeout today and it was nothing like the veggie burger I've been eating there for years. I assumed it was a Beyond Burger (it looks, tastes, smells, and gives me the telltale stomach ache that beyond burgers always do) but I got I touch via Facebook and was told it wasn't... It occurred to me that, even worse, it might me the terrible Lightlife burger - buts there's no way this is a "real veggie burger" as I was told.
I remember passing by McKibbin's when wanting a change of pace from Hurley's a block away. They get a lot right in terms of Irish pubs, the decor, music and feel is spot-on. The last 2 time I went was for trivia night on a Monday, did not know what to expect but seemed like fun. Our group came in second out of 8 groups, the questions were much harder than I thought, especially the music ones. As for the food, I got a plate of Nachos with Chicken on top $18+4, so a bit pricey but it's more than enough for a couple of people. I got to also try the frickles (fried pickles), which is ok but just a novelty food for me. Seeing as how it was busy, it was actually quite hard to flag the waitress for another beer, had to pay for my first drink upfront (?), and had trouble flagging anyone for a second beer. So when trivia night ended, people were queuing up to pay. My last visit was a lot less hectic, just a quiet evening, a co-worker re-commended the shepherd's pie. This is not something I would normally take since i normally fear it's frozen/re-heated but I was pleasantly surprised. It hit the spot on a cold autumn night.
Gord and I had supper last night at McKibbin's Irish Pub . It's a cute spot. Gord ordered the Belfast Chicken Wings with no sauce. The wings were HUGE and they were delicious (I had one). I had Creamy Bushmill's Whiskey Chicken and it too was delicious. I'd get it and the wings again. When we were leaving, a singer was just starting. The sign on the door could be a bad influence on Gord ... "Beer: So much more than just a breakfast drink." Allison was our server and she took good care of us.
I have been at this location twice: 1)st patty's day- which was a lot of fun with live music- and decent Irish buffet. 2) Trivia night on Mondays- this visit- We were a generally a large group of 13- we had made reservations for a group two days in advance. I was disappointed to see the Trivia did not start in time (@8 pm)- more like 20 mins late. There were 3 rounds of questions that were redic hard- a combination of fill in the blanks, multiple choice. The questions were mostly history heavy, no current events, pop culture, or science. I did enjoy the music round though. One thing-I did not appreciate was that people were cheating using their cell phones- lets be true to the sport- if you are here to play trivia- be real about it don't cheat- we are all here to have a good time! The trivia master wasn't strict about it-cant do much about it then. To make matters worse service wasn't that great -our waitress seemed overwhelmed and kept on waiting long enough for a simple drink order. I got a glass of Murphy. I was still waiting around for her to take my food order- which she did once I flagged her down at the cash! I tried the beef flank steak salad (by far not that great- it was slices of medium rare flank that had a weird marinade served on a bed of olive oil and parmesan drenched arugula. I also had the sweet and sour chicken wings that came with carrots, celery,ranch dip and fries- This dish was pretty good except the sauce on the wings were a tad tarte. When it came to paying our tabs- it took long and we had to remind our waitress of our orders several times. Overall, I am happy I got to experience Montreal trivia and cross it off my bucket list- definitely does not match Chicago caliber trivia nights- especially McKibbins- other than the 8 pm Monday timing that is a convenience- I won't be coming back here for trivia but will be there for St. Pattys (hence my 3 stars for 2 stars for trivia)!

Mum and Dad said we were stopping at McKibbin's for a couple of after-work beers. Fine. I agreed to accompany them. McKibbin's is a proper, good-sized Irish pub with two floors inside, but those of us with four legs are restricted to the outdoor patio. Luckily, there's a street-side seating area where dogs are welcome, so I settled in for one of my favorite Montreal activities: Human watching. Mum and Dad each ordered a couple of beers. I ordered nothing because, unfortunately, there was no dog menu. There was also no water bowl service, so McKibbin's has some room for improvement in the canine hospitality department. However... I had fans. Not one, but **TWO members of the staff came over separately just to say hello to me. They did not need anything. They were not bringing food. They simply wanted to meet me. At this point, I can only assume word of my arrival in Montreal has gotten around. I tried to remain humble. It was difficult. McKibbin's isn't a fancy dog destination, but that's also part of its charm. It's a comfortable, casual pub where Mum and Dad can have a couple of beers while I relax outside, watch Montreal go by and occasionally receive attention from my growing Canadian fan base. Dogba's verdict: 4 paws out of 5. Cold beers for the humans: Dogs welcome on the patio: Excellent human watching: Staff stopping by solely to admire me: TWICE Dog water bowl: Dog menu: Paparazzi: Surprisingly restrained Would return. I ended up going to this Irish pub twice in one weekend because my family ended up having a pretty great time there! It's a fairly large space with seating out front as well as a downstairs bar area and an upstairs area that then opens up to a small backyard area! The music was pretty ok, nothing I wouldn't expect from a local bar. However, on the Sunday night I was there, there was a live singer/guitarist in the main area, which candidly I could have done without. Lots of TVs with sports on to watch. The staff was nice as well and I enjoyed wine, an espresso martini and a very large glass of cider. I'm writing this review mainly because this might have been some of the best poutine I've ever had, flavor wise. The curry was really something and we ate every last fry and piece of cheese. I would come back here just for their poutine. read more

Irish eateries in M cities - 2 of 2 I have always wanted to eat Irish food in Montreal. Montreal has had a thriving Irish community centered mostly in Pointe-Charles but, like other European groups, they've disbanded little by little and moved further out or to exurbia. I have an acquaintance with immigrant Irish parents whose family moved from Montreal to Chateauguay on the Rive Sud, which is practically in New York state! I once found an Irish pub (that's still there) located on St.-Denis, practically across from Pizzeria dei Compari. Their menu has always seemed spotty because they appear more focused on the pub than on the eatery. (Sure, the mark-up is better on booze than on food they have to cook.) Thus, it was back to the drawing board. I did find a place on the west side, in the Financial District and near McGill. Its name is McKibbin's Irish Pub and it's on Rue Bishop. I was excited that they featured shepherd's pie (which I was looking for), but not expecting too much. I did order it, along with a cup of coffee. The shepherd's pie was good, but not up there with some of the memorable ones I've eaten. Shepherd's pie that is just good is where the meat is by far the dominant flavor. The ones that are excellent have a more cohesive flavor, where you seemingly taste all of the ingredients simultaneously. I don't know if those are big shoes to fill since some restaurants have delivered. The service was indeed amicable and I got zero attitude for ordering coffee in a pub. The price was fair in the context of being in the Financial District. While there's nothing wrong with it, McKibbin's is not my cup of tea, either. It's darker and parts of it are louder because of the music and/or karaoke. For the quiet I was seeking, I sat in another area. Note that, like many restaurants in this area and on nearby Rue Crescent, they are up a short flight of steps from the sidewalk. It had snowed some and there was some slush on the steps. So, whether you're 25, 55, or 85, hold on to the railing. If I'm craving Irish food, it's to eat. I'm probably better off going to an Irish restaurant during the lunch hour. Again, McKibbin's is perfectly fine if you like Irish and pub food together with libations and the general ambiance. Since I'm not a Montrealer (shucks), I doubt I'll be going back. There are foods and ambiances in which to eat that I prefer more ... and that list in Montreal might be limitless. McKibbin's on Rue Bishop has a solid following and it's shown by reviews and ratings that are good. read more

I had the club sandwich with ceasar salad. It was good. There's a terrace in the summer which is nice. The cheese fingers are good too. read more

I've been to this Mckibbins so many times that I've lost count. Whether for a quick drink after uni or to dance on the second floor, i've always had a good time in groups! The food is quantity over quality. They only have one type of cider (Mystique) which is the worst one so that sucks - even Reggie's (Concordia's campus bar) has way more variety! Went back recently for a quiz night last Monday. Was so excited as I'd never been before but I was completely let down and left irritated with a strong headache!! It was so noisy that it was hard to hear and understand the questions, and the questions were impossibly hard so it made it boring. The only fun rounds were the picture rounds, the music rounds and multiple choice because we didn't need to strain ourselves trying to hear the guy mumbling out the questions at the front of the bar while we sat at the back. Quiz night would be awesome IF AND ONLY IF they posted the questions on the TVs around the bar so that we don't need to strain ourselves trying to hear or they spoke up. Shushing people shouldn't be a thing at a bar. Also, sort the questions into categories and make them more relevant!!! Unless you were over 35, you weren't likely to know the answers! Again, fun in theory but boring in reality. read more
A cozy Irish pub on Bishop street right next to Concordia University. McKibbins is a great bar to watch the Canadiens play - or just indulge in some pints and whiskey! Known for having one of the best hamburgers in town - if you have an appetite just order the Deluxe Burger and be ready for feast. Another wacky - but great menu item is the curry poutine. Get it with grilled chicken and it's a pseudo-curry chicken, served with fries and cheese curds. You'll love it. Finally - if you have a stomach of steel, you can join me and many other patrons on the "Wall of Flame". It's a chicken wing challenge where you must eat 12 of the hottest wings in town. Made with ghost peppers - this dirty dozen of wings require you to sign a waiver before you can even start. In return, you'll get your name written on their wall - and a funky t-shirt to show off your win to all. My tip to you all: Don't drink your beer to dowse the heat - order a glass of milk, and ice-cream off the menu (why do you think it's there!) and take that instead. Expect the pain to continue hours later (thus the name - Rim Reaper...) Situated in downtown Montreal in Bishop street, this is one of the many Irish Pub we have here in Montreal. I went there on the lunch hour with a friend just to enjoy the nice short summer weather that we have here in Montreal. Weekday, lunch hour, there wasn't many people, we took a table at the back in their terrace. It was very relaxing, not much noise, getting your dose of vitamin D. I ordered a cider and their chicken tikka masala. I know right? Indian food in an Irish pub? What is this madness? But apparently they're famous for their curry, go figure. Anyway, drinks always good, if you're a beer person, they have good tap beer there; as you can see, I'm not a beer person but the cider was decent. Now the main dish; the chicken was very tender. I would've love the curry to be a bit stronger; me personally I found it a bit soft. No complaints on the rice. Overall it was a very chill lunch break experience. Fun fact: to try once in a life time: Irish pub + saint-patty's day. Apparently it's nuts. Gotta reserve in advance though. read more
We were in the neighbourhood and wanted some burger. The burger and fries are just like any pub burger and fries. We saw the really really spicy chicken wings on the menu and decided to try them. OMFG, they were so spicy, I couldn't even talk after just one bite. Same goes for my friends. It was a unforgettable experience for sure. However, I still won't consider going back to there. Food wasn't good, simple as that. read more
I always have a great time when I go here. I go with the same group of friends, and we order the same thing. Hamburgers. And they do them well! Do not order the fire wings. Two of my friends did despite repeated warnings by the waitress, and snot started running out of four nostrils at the same time. It was disgusting. Yet quite hysterical. I need to find new friends to take here... So they can try the wings;)) read more

I've came here twice in the past week and had two complete different experiences. Both times, we were two and sat on the terrasse in the back. The first time around, we had no problem for the service but the second time, it took forever to get the attention of our waitress, forever to get the menu, longer than forever to get our food menu (the waitress came back twice to ask us about our drink order and each time we'd asked her for a food menu but shed forget...). Food wise, I've tried the fried pickles, the spicy cheddar sticks, the McKibbins burger and their bangers and mash. The fried pickles were amazing,very crunchy on the outside and warm and juicy on the inside. The sourness of the pickles cut through the fattiness of the fried layer perfectly. The spicy cheddar sticks on the other hand were much more richer, with oozing cheddar cheese inside and a crispy coating. It came with a spicy creamy dipping sauce which I found made the sticks hard to eat due to the amount of creaminess. The sticks were also falling apart from the melted cheese inside. Would have been nice if the fried cheddar was made from fresh squeaky cheddar instead. The bangers and mash were definitely a hit for me despite the dry sausage (the gravy overcame the case of the dry sausage). The mashed potatoes were buttery, the gravy nice and rich, and the thinly sliced fried onions delicious! The burger on the other hand, was too dry making it almost difficult to eat, the patty was nicely seasoned (i tasted cumin) but it was so dry that it was hard to enjoy). I am not one to just go to a bar or pub to have a drink but I stop by this spot often with my co-workers for lunch on Fridays because it's a great place to have a beer over lunch.
