Elizabeth T. was the most amazing Public Storage staff member I have encountered. She is efficient, friendly, and was service oriented. She made my morning so much easier after having arrived a day prior and nobody was present for my appointment. I just wanted to compliment the super nice lady at the Alvin Dr location...Tammy. She has this great smile to go along with her great personality. As mentioned, Tammy is super nice. Very professional & her years of experience is helping my moving fiasco go much easier. I'm retired now but I know from my work experiences that great employees are really hard to find. It is one of the easiest things I have done online. Found the storage unit size I needed, and picked the Public Storage location (they are conveniently located throughout the DFW) some personal details, and quick payment. You just download the app if you didn't already download it to sign up initially. The app will have the location of the Public Storage, your storage unit #, and gate code to access their secure facility. The gate can be opened from the app without getting out of your car. So great. The building and unit itself were very easy to locate. An instruction sheet and your padlock and keys are waiting inside your unit. There is also a second lock to which you can add your own additional lock. I feel my property and my person when I visit the unit are safer and secure. read more

I would give 5 stars but I just can't based on the fact when I called their customer services yesterday, the person was kind of rude. Now I don't mind rudeness (he could have been having a bad day) but customer services is supposed to answer our questions right? Anyway, he told me that the lock I purchase with the rental agreement was full refundable. I wanted to make sure because this is the case with "Extra Space Storage". I have never rented a storage unit before so adequate research was required. The website states the same thing as long as you bring in your own approved lock we will happily refund. I went in yesterday and was told by the lady at the counter that the lock is NOT refendable no matter what lock I brought in. The locks that Public Storage provide are "plunge locks" which are pretty safe and harder to mess with. There is however, a space for an added lock which I will use for added security, in fact, there is space for two more locks. The point I am trying to make is, don't mislead customers into renting a storage unit on the premise that they will be receiving a refund for the lock $19.99 when they bring in their own "approved lock", that is false advertising and misleading. I don't mind the $19.99 loss because it is actually a bonus having it, however I would suggest using your own locks as well for added security and peace of mind. I saw some of the storage units during the tour to my unit had "ridiculous and laughable" locks added on top of the plunger lock. #1 Don't assume you are the only person with that plunger lock key #2 Don't use ANY lock that can be cut or picked (spend the extra money) The other issue is that ALL of the dollies were stolen, wonderful news! Why not add GPS trackers to the carts because she told me that customers are locking them up in their units which is technically (theft). Secondly, why not have dollies locked in a storage unit with a key pad and a camera above. Whoever needs to use the dolly would need to get the code from the front desk, use the dolly, lock it back up. Simple right? The small financial upgrades would avoid the massive financial losses! I have yet to move things in but the hallways in there are long, dark and super creepy, great idea for a horror movie FYI. Turns out, there are also NO cameras inside those long, dark and creepy corridors (just great!). Always stay vigilant and don't think you are alone in there because it's quiet! Teeny, tiny doors on every unit under 10x15. They wouldn't work with us to see if our items would even fit through the door before signing a contract, despite the fact that we'd been PS customers for years and have spent thousands of dollars with that company. If you have things that are too big to fit through a regular door, this won't work for you unless you spend $125+ per month. Um, no thanks. read more

This is a story about Angela, the best Public Storage employee you will ever meet. I pulled up to the gate at Public Storage on Alvin Street in Dallas a few weeks ago, just before closing time. I was in a hurry, trying to drop off a few unnecessary things at my storage space, on the way to moving into a new apartment. It was an unreasonably cold night in May, especially for Dallas. The temperature was 45 degrees Farenheit and the wind was blowing quite fiercely. When I got to the gate at 8:50pm, I jumped out of my van and ran over to enter my code. The gate opened and I ran back to my van to get in, drop off stuff, and get out. Unfortunately for me, when I got back to my van, the wind had blown my door shut, leaving my van running, and completely locked. My spare key was with my girlfriend, who was working a catering job and unreachable. I called some friends who live around the corner from that Public Storage and asked them to bring some coat hangers, and proceeded to look for shelter from the intensely cold wind (there was none) and watched some youtube videos on how to unlock a car door with a coat hanger. Friends arrived, unlocking attempts commenced...it is hard enough to unlock a car door with a coat hanger on a sunny day, but with freezing winds in the dark, we were finding it near impossible. After trying this for about 30 minutes and laughing at ourselves, Angela, the Public Storage employee who lives in the apartment above the Public Storage office, came out onto her balcony (I assume she heard us laughing). She informed us that Public Storage was closed and that we would need to leave (very professional). I explained about my van being locked and running. She asked several questions about how we were trying to unlock it, and gave several suggestions on what else we could do. After another 10 minutes of failed attempts, though, one of my friends headed off to find a police officer, in the hopes that he/she might take mercy on me and unlock my van. Angela came back out onto her porch to check on our progress. Seeing that we were useless, she said "Hang on, I'm coming down to see if I can help." This was at 9:45pm at night, long after her Public Storage duties were done for the day. But she came down anyway, in the freezing cold, to try and help two strangers. She brought a much sturdier coat hanger-esque piece of metal, with a hook at the end, and a screwdriver. She then directed us in helping her pry the door open, while she pushed the wire hook inside the car door. This went on for about fifteen minutes. The entire time, she was positive and friendly, and extremely helpful. At about the 20 minute mark, she succeeded in pushing the power windows button on my car door with her wire hook. The window came down, I unlocked the doors, we thanked her profusely and left. Angela, you went waaaaay above and beyond the call of duty that night, and for that, I salute you, and I thank you, and I want everyone to know what an awesome person you are, Public Storage employee or not. read more

My experience with this location was good the first time and outstanding the second time (today 10/26/16). I had items shipped and the moving company gave me headaches the young lady working today (i think her name is Joanna) calmed me and made helpful suggestions to remedy the situation. It also was a plus that she was able to understand Spanish and listened to the movers for any negative comments about me. Thanks for that. I am absolutely furious with yet another increase in monthly rates. I have had a unit since Sept 2011. This unit has always been a necessity and unaffordable. You never give even a full 30 day notice of increases. Your units have periodic rat problems and water leak last year. Fortunately my unit only had a small bit of water and rat packets are periodically placed,so I will not say that issues are not addressed. My point is that your unit is overpriced and not as desirable as competitors. You have no business raising rates again. When I am able, I will give up this unit and have no intentions of returning to your company ever. The only positive is that your on-site employees have always been helpful and professional. read more
