The people behind the customer service counter are both professional, and personable, willing to just be themselves, which is much appreciated. While the cashiers are always great about asking if I found everything I needed, occasionally there seems to be an attitude that they appear that they simply don't wanna be there. Our Publix subs were amazing! We order online all the time and this location does a terrific job job! I've lived in the Sarasota/Bradenton/Lakewood Ranch area for over 40 years and this is the best Publx out of all of them. Buyer Beware! I used this Publix for a Western Union money order. The person I sent it to could not cash it so I asked for a refund and they say they do not give refunds. Then I have to call Western Union and they charge a $15 processing fee to cancel a money order that cannot be cashed! What a scam!!! Stay away from using this service. Publix should discontinue this scam!!! The manager at this location would not even come and talk to me about it so I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint with their corporate office. [What's in a name?] Well George Jenkins the founder opened the first stand-alone grocery store in Winter Haven, Florida, on September 6, 1930. He adopted the name "Publix" from a struggling New York-based movie theater company (with 19 opulently decorated movie houses in Florida) called Publix Theatres Corporation. Jenkins stated "Most of the theaters were closing up, and I liked the sound of the name, so I just took it for my store." OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE great people quality products. Personally I love the service at Publix. They are true BOGOs where they don't jack the price up and then offer the BOGO, like some other grocery stores do. "Publix, where shopping is a pleasure", has been their motto forever, and for the most part it is true. The bigger the store, the larger the assortment of products. The small stores have only the top selling brands. I love their BOGO's, when I can't find something and ask a sales person, they will take me to the item or find out if they carry the product. If they are out of the product they will check in back and if there is none in storage, they will suggest a rain check. Staffs are friendly and helpful and appear to be eager to be there. Had a horrible experience at the register at this Publix today- the person who scanned my groceries was surly, rude, unkempt, obnoxious, had body odor, and was obviously drunk. I hate these self-checkout lanes! Actually........... One of the newer Publix's in the Sarasota area is one of the best! Clean, well-stocked, plenty of parking, and employees always helpful and friendly- especially.............. 1.) "MA***," in the Deli, been there since day one, extremely knowledgeable and patient with all customers. 2.) "CA*******," at the registers, another dedicated professional, can usually be found at "Express" lane. 3.) "LI***," who's also been there from the beginning, extremely well-liked by her fellow employees past and present, stocks the medicine shelves with great efficiency and gusto- she's easy to spot; hides her age well- looks and acts MUCH younger than she really is. Though not a pharmacist, she's not afraid to give medical advice- "Never take laxatives and sleeping pills at the same time!" 4.) STE******," Been a cashier at the store since it's opening, but has hung her hat at many other Publix's before "coming home" recently. This Publix is the closest for me and I usually have a good shopping experience here. The store seems well managed, clean, and well stocked. Most of the staff are very helpful and respectful. The 2 who were checking us out and bagging the groceries took great care with our purchases. Many times the cashier will scan an item and fling it down the ramp, damaging produce, etc. These 2 were great. I'm also a big fan of Pub subs! The customer service there is hit and miss. Several times, I had great service and wonderful subs prepared for me. Each 12 inch one is enough for 2 lunches! Only on one occasion did I get a bunch of attitude and the wrong (higher ) price charged. She obviously didn't like working there and taking good care of customers like most Publix employees do. I have been consistently disappointed in this Publix (Lorraine+Univ Pkwy). The produce department is pathetic. It's not the fault of the hard workers--they do the best they can with what they have to work with. Management is horrible/non caring if you need help. The kids who work there are sweet but clueless. Items aren't in stock. I'm so frustrated by the time I go through check out, I recently snapped at the cashier when asked if I found everything ok. Poor management has a rippling effect. On a positive note, I went to the Publix at the corner of Lorraine and rt 70. WOW! what a difference! I love it! it offers so much much more--and the people who work there are nice and take pride in their store. This isn't Wegmans or Eataly, but it IS going to be my new grocery store. I love this store. Super clean and friendly employees. Tammy is awesome! She works in different departments. I love the bakery! Skip the Dunkin Donuts, hands down the freshest donuts around. I have always loved Publix, mostly because of the wonderful service. The employees are so nice and friendly and the cashiers have always had packers to pack your bags and even carry them to your car if you want. Their prices are a little high but to me, the service made it worthwhile. I'm really upset that they have decided to follow in the steps of stores like Walmart who are now all self service at checkout. most people hate self checkout. I am one of them. And Publix doesn't have Walmart prices. I never shop at Walmart but I also won't be frequenting Publix if it continues in this direction. read more

I do not know how to rate this. With that said...I like the store in all, it's close to home, it is clean, love the deli and bakery, the employees are nice in the store area and helpful. The problem I have is that the pharmacy is absolutely clueless. They lack in communication with the customers and I believe with themselves. I stopped using the pharmacy over a year ago due to this problem (constantly fighting with the website and the techs who act like they have no idea what they are doing. For years the doctor's office says call the pharmacy for refills, these techs are telling me to call the doctor's office. The insurance company is refusing to pay for a script (that they always pay for), so the tech is saying I have to call the PDP for this problem, the pharmacy always did this, they have all the information, right! So, what happens, the Rx doesn't get filled, the tech never calls the customer, this goes un-noticed and the Rx is an important Rx, it's not for recreational use, it's for life and pain! First, they tell me there are no refills, why didn't they call the doctor? Days a week goes by, I call, they tell me I have to call the doctor !? So, I call doctor and request a refill. I call back, another tech says there is a refill, but the PDP will not pay for it, I have to call the PDP!? What do they do there?! First no refill, then there was a refill, now the PDP won't pay, I have to call the PDP, why am I getting so upset with this whole situation? WHERE IS THE CUSTOER SERVICE THAT EVERYONE IS GLOATING ABOUT? It must be in the grocery store part. When I switched back to Publix, I was hoping this was different, it's not.... I will have to switch to another pharmacy again and make note to never use Publix pharmacy in the future. I will worn my friends, families, etc., about the terrible customer service in this pharmacy, not grocery store. Not just once, but 2 times now? The tech blamed it on new techs and covid shots. My sister was hired at this store. On her first day, the customer service manager stood outside the bathroom waiting for my sister to come out. The c.s. manager then sternly asked my sister when she clocked in. My sister said 7 minutes before her start time. This manager scolded my sister and said she has to punch in at her exact start time. My sister on her interview was told by an assistant manager she could clock in 10 minutes prior to her start time. Then, this same manager told my sister she had to tuck her shirt in. The store gave my sister a medium when she needed a small because she is a tiny person. When my sister told this c.s. manager that the shirt has too much material because it is so big on on, and if she tucks it in, it will look as though she is wearing a diaper. My sister went into the bathroom and tucked in her shirt. After my sister came out of the bathroom, there was another store associate waiting outside the bathroom door for her. This associate told my sister that the c.s. manager wants her to put her hair in a bun. My sister questioned this associate on that and stated nothing was said to her in her interview about putting her hair in a bun. My sister went out to the floor with her hair not in a bun. The c.s. manager then came up to her and told her she can't have bangs because they won't be able to see her face on the security cameras. I guess they think all their employees are thieves. My sister said to the c.s. manager, "this isn't going to work", and she walked out. Later that morning, the c.s. manager called my sister to apologize for her behavior and admitted to being unprofessional. The store manager then called my sister to apologize for the customer service manager's behavior and advised my sister, they have had problems with her. When my sister brought up about her bangs to the manager, the manager responded to my sister by telling her she can't have bangs for food safety concerns. My sister was hired as a cashier and not working in a department that works with food. My sister's bangs are short and swept to the side. They do not cover her face. Obviously, this thing about the bangs is made up, and not in their company guidelines, per my sister. So, you can't have bangs? Meanwhile, employees are wearing masks and half their face is covered. Meanwhile, customers are coming into the store with masks and some with sunglasses covering up their entire faces which makes them totally unrecognizable to the security cameras. Publix prides themselves on good customer service. My sister has been a customer of theirs for 10 years and she tells me she has always gotten good customer service at Publix. What about internal customer service? It doesn't appear this store possess good internal customer. I encourage people with bangs that may be looking for a job to apply to this store and wear your face mask. read more
