So crowded it's hard to actually get any shopping done. Came in to check out the store and grab a few things while my friend was in town and oh my goodness just getting in the front door was tough. People were moving in crowds slowly and parking their carts in the walk way where people were trying to get through which slowed us down even more and caused concern for a safety hazard. They had samples throughout the store which was nice to try a few things but shopping was a bust. The isles were packed and so was the lines. We ended up just buying a pretzel and going to the cafe section to get a watermelon splasher which happened to be pretty good, very refreshing. read more

This place is so cool! Super fresh local produce, affordable prices, incredible variety, samples galore. What more could a person ask for!? We had such a great time going aisle by aisle checking out all of the different snacks and produce. We ended up buying a random assortment of oranges to do taste tests in our hotel room. Detwiler's Farm Market Sarasota 7-23-25 What a great place to shop for Groceries. They have a lot a Butcher, Bakery, Fresh Produce, Seafood, Deli, and Sub Shop just to name a few inside this store. I for one love the Deli which had meats cheese and more and the Butcher Shop for those larger cuts of meats. Lots to choose from and it all looks fresh. I love that they carry Martins Kettle Cooked Potato Chips in this store. I used to live near Martins back in Pa. and loved their Chips. This store is laid out nicely and the isles are well marked. If we would live near this store, we would be in there a lot. You must stop by, and I bet you will come out with some kind of item for sure. Didn't think a grocery store could offer such a fun and exciting experience, but Detwiler's did! We came the weekend before Christmas, and they had an ugly sweater contest, where employees wore their best Christmas fit and encouraged patrons to vote on the best one. They have a large produce and fruit selection, and everything looked so fresh. They also had so many different cookies, cakes and pastry options for your holiday gathering. They also sell local goods from the Amish community (Yoder's fresh noodles, homemade jams) and have some small business imports from the northeast/MW (local pasta sauce imports, Detroit style pizza). They were also sampling a ton of holiday treats like crackers and cheese spread, ham, jumbo shrimp, peppermint milkshakes, red velvet cake and ice cream, coffee, diff snacks (pretzels, snack mix, chips) and fruits (5 diff citrus varieties). Best place ever to buy to truly purchase Amish bread, MEATS!! My husband and I EASILY split filet mignon!! The meat was so tender and our filet mignon, was almost 2" thick! A WONDERFUL place to shop! Been here a handful of times. I'm pretty intrigued by it. I love their selection of tropical fruit. Their strawberry milkshake is amazing and their bakery is always eye grabbing. This time they ran out of peach bread and the sign was screaming at me. They have peaches from South Carolina and local mangos, and then a sign for 10.99 per pound passion fruit which sounds pricey to me. Thankfully they were out. There's Amish goods here, and lots of other stuff. I want to try their lobster roll sometime.. I really do love Detwiler's. I realized that my last review of this place was 7 years ago, and so probably time for an update. The store has had a major revamp in the past couple of years and has expanded its meat, fish, and deli counters. The offerings of cheeses has also massively grown including selections from the US and Europe. They are still hard to beat on prices for fresh produce (though the organic section is still very small). Prices here like everywhere else have gone up in the past few years with the price of fish/seafood being noticeably higher (though still competitive compared to others). Staff is always very helpful and positive. Occasionally they have free samples which is always fun. Gets very busy on Saturday. Closed on Sunday. read more

After a year of trying to get in touch with someone at Detweilers I feel compelled to leave a bad review on yelp. I have called the store repeatedly, punched the button for the Customer Service line and it is never ever ever answered. One of my favorite foods in this world is zucchini bread there are very few places this item is available. It used to be available regularly at Detweilers, yet in the past two years. I have been unable to find it even in the summer. I have tried numerous times to call the store to find out if they do, indeed have it in the bakery, but as stated above, it is impossible to get a live person to answer the phone. "A little farm market that sort of just grew over the years" is what I'm told. And not without it's share of challenges especially when Hurricane Ian blew into town last year, or was that Idalia? So many tropical storms rolling through the Suncoast, names tend to evade me, but it was one of the Sarasota locations. Every location is happening! Always packed - and first you'll see multi colored signs calling out prices on tomatoes and potatoes in distressed wooden hip high bins. Grab & Go to follow which is premade sandwiches and salads and slide across to the next counter where sandwiches are made to order. From here on and in an effort to save words, I'm going to focus on the highlights of shopping here at Detweilers. The seafood department is like that of New England markets, big fleshy fish that swim deep in cold waters. "Two pound bags of mussels for $.. everyday here at Detweilers!" comes echoing from the mid rafters by mouth, not public address nor Muzak, like at the old Fulton Market downtown NYC. Free samples of made from scratch cookies and pies being cut and set out upon doilies, enjoy the smells as you pass thru. with much milk just behind including the stuff you can't get just anyway. (See picture) Animals above the butcher department, roosters and cows windmills and a big red barn. Pure chaos! Came here at the recommendation of a friend and we decided to go with them. Cheap prices on meat and fresh fruits, veggies. They also have a bakery and another area that we didn't explore with furniture. Walking in and trying to navigate through is VERY chaotic! People are rude and don't pay attention. The aisles are narrow and with the amount of people it's hard to get through. Let's just say that this experience was sort of a frustrating one so we decided to exit. I didn't feel like the savings was worth the experience. We came, we experienced, WE LEFT FAST! Try at your own risk but bring a lot of patience! read more

The produce in this place was exceptional. They had a ton of variety and everything was fresh. I took a peek in the pasta aisle and they even had my favorite imported Italian pasta. We are so excited to have found this market! Everything is extremely fresh and well priced. Even better than that, everything is locally sourced. It feels wonderful to know that your food is grown nearby and has not been sitting in a warehouse for months. The markets are family owned, and I am happy to support a small business. They provide a beautiful small town experience by offering samples within the store. Employees that are offering samples are also knowledgeable about the products that they sell. One employee offering cheese samples, went out of his way to find a manager to help me find the cheese that I was looking for last week. Upon doing so, he was extremely friendly, and never seemed put out by my question as to where to find the cheese. Before Thanksgiving, there was even an employee by the turkey cooler who would ask you what size you were looking for, find it for you, and put it in an extra strong plastic bag for you. read more

On this Thanksgiving day I am so thankful to Detwiler's and their fantastic grocery stores stocked with fresh, beautiful fruits and veggies, fresh fish, meats, cheeses and everything in between! Since moving here 3 years ago we have found ourselves doing all our grocery shopping to there. Not only do we love the quality of their offerings, but we really enjoy their friendly and courteous employees who always go out of their way to make us and all the other customers feel special. We normally go to the University store but headed to the new, larger one on 53rd yesterday as we heard they were selling Thanksgiving sides there. We ended up buying a tray of their green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole , stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, all while enjoying all of their delicious samples. Being able to purchase the whole feast there was wonderful. It was just my mom and I and we found all of the food to be much better than any restaurant we could have gone to. We didn't spend the day cooking a meal that was going to be way too much for the both us. Instead this allowed us to relax, enjoy each other's company and discuss everything we are thankful for. Today, I got disappointed with worker at the store for my 4 years of shopping experience in the location. It was around 7:35 pm almost closing time of the store, and one the worker was cleaning with heavy chemicals over the food section where the meats were being stored. I was shocked of him doing that And also he was so unprofessional and rude with me, when I told him he should clean after the meats were removed from the display. he argued with me, I think he was under his 20th, I had 1st time experience of that at the store. read more

I bought 2 cuban an took them home. When I bit into them, they were the wrong sandwiches. I them called the store and they said to come in and they would make them right! They remade them, and once again they were wrong. I should have gave him less Stars. However the management took care of it and made it right for the third time. I was trying to catch my airplane so they told me just to go on and leave the store. I was pleased with the management team. They just need to know what sandwiches what. The Cantaloupe and the Water Melon were totally rotten today. I thought it was a one off last week but these fruits were completely rotten this week. They were not edible at all I had to throw them out they were like mush. Not only is the place a mad house with the grossly over crowded conditions but now the food isn't even eatable. They have zero quality control and some people will get sick from attempting to eat their completely rotten fruit. It should all have been thrown in the garbage. They have zero quality control. I wouldn't feed my dog any of their totally rotten produce. I give them zero for quality control and zero for extremely overcrowded conditions. This store used to be great but it has gone completely to the dogs now. I will never shop there again. I feel like I got robbed for $120 because I will have to throw most of this rotten produce in the garbage. The quality of the produce is by far the worse I have ever experienced in my life in any country. This even includes Britain and Morocco and that is saying a lot.
