Went on a Monday around 3pm, it was still packed. I watch another shopper, for some reason, grab and flip over an entire box of peaches from the top of the peach display. 4/5 workers quickly came to the scene and started cleaning it up within seconds. I haven't been in awhile but love the new layout of the store. Seems like it was needed to fit all the products and to make the aisles more easily accessible. The line for sandwiches was 5 people deep, lines at all the checkout counters as well. Bought fresh peaches, cucumbers, potatoes, and more. Rave: do NOT leave the store with one of the new blueberry handpies. This is probably the best handpie I've ever had. I popped it in the airfryer and it came out so flaky and gooey. Not insanely sweet either. Wish I bought more of them. Ate it too quickly to get a photo so I looked one up, it's wrapped in parchment paper and in a basket next to the donuts. read more

Been loving on the diff Detwilers locations lately. They had Mango Mania today and I enjoyed tasting two diff Mangos. Hayden was my fave compared to Kent. Sweet. I also tried yellow watermelon and compared it to the regular. I like the regular better. It was Sweeter. This location feels smaller to me, more cramped in the produce section. I didn't love this location as much as others. I did see a taco bowl section that seemed unique to me compared to the other ones, or I just never noticed it. 8.99 is a good deal I think. Also a separate section for their Amish donuts. My fave in order are 1: Bradenton 2: Lockwood Ridge - Sarasota 3: Palmetto - This one might be number 2, but I don't remember. 4: Clark - Sarasota Everyone is so friendly and helpful here. I do love seeing what local and tropical fruits they have. So many mango varieties. I love their Thai bananas too. Their baked items are so good and eye catching. I bought the mango bars and they were so good. I was tempted to buy the mango cheesecake, but I held off. Anything mango was catching my eye as you can tell. read more

Our go to for fresh meat, seafood, pastries and produce when visiting Siesta Key. Typically 2-3x cheaper than the green sign grocery and a lot fresher food with great specials. They don't have all the options of a normal grocery but we can normally find 80% of what we need here and go 2x when we are here for a week. read more

The food is great! Was never more fresh! The people who work there are so nice, when we were getting meat at the deli, this worker let us try them to make sure we liked it, he made sure we got what we wanted. Also, inside is super neat. Detweiler's has consistently been one of my favorite grocery stores in Sarasota. They have several locations now and all are doing very well. They have an exceptionally large section of fresh produce at unbeatable prices. You can sometimes find potatoes as low as 0.69 cents per pound! Produce is seasonal and includes both local partnerships as well as their established links with farmers in Pennsylvania. They have very good meat, fish, and deli counters and they have massively upped their cheese game. People who work there are very friendly and welcoming and the stores always have a good vibe around them and often times lots of samples. The only things I wish they did better were more organic produce (still very limited) and their salmon is almost always farmed from Norway (not great if you ask me); would loved to see wild Alaskan sockeye back! read more

Right here in Sarasota. This grocery store is one of the best. The food is always fresh and priced right. The meat section is fantastic. Find the prime meets when you can it's as good as any top restaurant. The service is spot on too. I always ask for ice since I live in Tampa and they do everything with a smile. The ambiance is what you'd expect in a store. Yesterday they had a customer application day. Free hotdog and chips with a drink. Oh they also had a cookie. This is a 6 star store. read more

I racked my brain but was unable to think of a comparable store in California that's quite like Detwiler's -- a store that sells general grocery, handmade pasta, a bakery, fresh-squeezed juices, a fresh seafood counter stocked with local catches, and a sandwich shop that sells $19 lobster roll. Whole Foods is similar (minus the lobster roll) but it will eat up your whole paycheck. How does Detwiler's lobster roll taste? Very fresh and delicious, even though the lobster meat comes out of a jar and I prefer the hot Connecticut-style lobster roll with no mayo. During the free sample tasting of the oranges, I learned sadly all the oranges are imported from California, as the Fla citrus crop is still recovering from hurricanes and disease. read more

Loved the Sub Shop and the sub Detwiler's is more than just a large popular grocery store, they are also a sandwich shop and ice cream stand. My review is for the sandwich shop, located along the right wall as you are walking to the back of the store. The bright and colorful spot up by the registers is for ice cream. This isn't the first time I've had their sandwiches, but it was the first time I've gone there to order one. What a fun experience. I hit it off so well with the sandwich makers and I don't think it was because of me. I think these were just great people, very positive, very personable, very proud of their food. My sandwich maker was quite deliberate in making our sandwiches, a Henry's Favorite and a Reuben, ensuring they were perfectly constructed. A Henry's Favorite is a reasonably priced Ham, Salami and Beef Bologna sub and I got it the "Detwiler Way", lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and mayo. My choice of cheese was cheddar. It was substantial and very good. I kept noticing the bologna, a meat I don't often have, and liked that very much. My sandwich, which I finished, was so large my wife would not let me sample her Reuben, but I have had their Reuben before and know it is outstanding. This was a great visit, one we should repeat. In the front of the store by that ice cream stand are some tables if you want to eat there. read more

1st time @ Detwiler's, Excellent experience - very well organized from the fresh vegetables and fruits area to the butcher counter and seafood counters. We haven't been to this Detwiller's in more than a year. I couldn't believe how crowded it was! There were samples everywhere! The deli/cheese counter is enormous and their prices are very reasonable. I purchased a pound of low sodium natural turkey for $8.99 a pound. There are ladies cutting cheese to taste. The sandwich/hot food station is very busy. Today I think there was a turkey sub for $6.99 as well as bowls and other hot meals. Occasionally we will even buy a delicious lobster roll. Then on to the home baked breads, croissants, empanadas and pretzels. Dave bought a few to try. There are ready to go salads with protein and cheese for $5.00. The fish counter is always jammed. Today they had fresh key west shrimp for $9.99 a pound and whole snapper's for $5.99 a pound. There was a tasting for marinated chicken wings, which you just bake in the oven. I bought some feta chicken sausage to try. Then on to the produce where there were samples of watermelon. Every vegetable and fruit you can imagine. Since this is an Amish market, there were sample of a lot of Amish products, like chips, pretzels, and much more. After you check out there is a little stand where you can buy soup, coffee ice cream all at a very good price! The front of the store was loaded with families having lunch and ice cream. I have to make sure that my eyes aren't bigger than my stomach lol! We loaded up our goodies in refrigerated bags with ice and headed home! What a great experience! read more

Not a lot of people in green uniforms all over the place being completely useless. No workers at the butcher's case, not knowing how much is half a pound. Looking at the labels on things, they REALLY do a good job of creating CLEAN FOOD, not full of preservatives and bad ingredients! Helpful staff! The bakery worker told me that their pastas are made locally by a guy and very good, so I bought some gnocchi and OMG it was so good, with the ground sirloin/brisket & ground pork mixed together with some Knorr onion soup and an egg (meatballs), and some pasta sauce from Aldi's ($1.99 ) and SO good! Throw on some Parmesan and it is incredible!!!! Meats are about 30 less than say, Fresh Market, which I used to shop at. Once filet mignon was something like $33-$35 a pound, they priced me out of being willing to go there. A Duroc gorgeous pork chop was around $3 and it's huge! INCREDIBLE! I bought a couple pounds of HAKE fish, which seems to be seasonal, and fried it up and it was INCREDIBLE! And it's cheap as well! Detwiler's does business ETHICALLY, in all areas. It's damn refreshing, compared to CORPORATE stores that do business badly on all levels. It feels like COMMUNITY, and it feels like the wholesomeness of a farm community! read more

I no longer purchase produce at the usual supermarkets. At Detwiler's I like choosing all the pieces I want from the open bins of fresh, unpackaged vegetables and fruits. I live alone and can't use the amounts that usually come in the packaging. Also, it's not fresh! The meat is Amish raised; not only so good but reasonably priced; and so is the fish. Also a deli counter and bakery section is there plus many non mainstream brands, some of them specialty items, like fresh, not dried, gluten free spaghetti. On the way out buy an ice cream cone at the ice cream counter. After reading this you are imagining a large market. The ONLY negative thing I can say is that it's small and I've never been there when it wasn't mobbed. Guess it's the price of being so good. read more

Ahh Detwiler's. There is no place quite like it. From fresh local farmed produce, prepared food and bakery items, to sandwich station and variety of meats and seafoods, Detwilers has a great assortment of foods to meet your grocery needs. This is their newest store I believe but they are studded around the sun coast and each store has their own set up and feel. My favorite places to shop are the produce---they even have organic as well as hard to find items like exotic (tropical) fruits as well as the seafood section which is phenomenal and stocked with fresh, wild caught seafood (yes, wild caught is superior). My family is a big fan of their lobster rolls although a bit untraditional for this NE native with the addition of celery but it adds a nice crunch and the meat is fresh and delicious. The rolls can come toasted or not and with the roll stuffed or with the salad on the side or even sans roll. Check them out for yourself. read more

Went for the nice produce selection and decided to try the bakery. big mistake. hard to get any service, a young woman did acknowledge me, then kept working on something and wouldnt give me service. waited 3 minites. that seems like a lot when she wouldn't do anything but stand there sorting instead of helping. I am disappointed today in Detweilers on Clark road today. This has nothing to do with the food. This has to do with how you treat your employees. I was at a register #6 today making small talk with the cashier and she told me she feels so sick: aches, chills, fever, etc. how dare you have an employee on a register that has told you they don't feel good! She said the manager is aware she's sick but they are short staffed. I don't care you take better care of your employees. God forbid she gets someone sick especially the elderly and she is handling everyone's food! This makes me so mad! Treat your workers better. read more

I have a mild obsession with this place. The produce section is top notch. Fresh fruits and veggies for a great price. The butcher section is also very good. Great cuts of all types of meats. The fish section is also very good. Fresh fish for excellent prices. Do you like desserts/baked goods? Well look no further. You'll take this home and lover every bite. And when you're done shopping, you have to get a scoop of ice cream. It's yummy and the price is also terrific. Lastly, when you buy your pineapple here, they have a machine that will peel and core it and drop it into your container. That is worth the trip. read more

Detwiler's is a regional supermarket chain with a few stores around the Sarasota area that elevates the food shopping experience by offering a superior product at a great price point. So enamored with this place! Amazing grocery choices with many from local suppliers. They cover all of the bases here and the taste and quality of the food is top notch. Pretty good! Bigger than Trader Joe's and with more fresh meat items, but smaller and more manageable than a Publix. Great produce selection overall (they had bok choy! And heirloom tomatoes! And fresh turmeric, and other items I had never seen before!) And yet the broccoli was disappointing, with small tops and long, thick stalks. There's a pineapple corer you can operate. Natural peanut butters, and whole coffee beans to grind. Good meat and seafood selection with reasonable prices. Impressive deli. And a scoop shop with creamy ice cream. The cons: lacklustre bakery items, floor space randomly devoted to a couple racks of random books, staff not wearing masks properly.
