A simple Tuesday night I was not expecting anything special but come on ! The things I ordered are super basic!! One star for service ,waiter was very attentive Half star for decor I thought it was nice. You might think something great could happen .And half star For chips and salsa they were perfect and I loved them. But unfortunately that was the end. The tacos nothing fancy (just beef tacos) bland as bland could be. Bean bland! . Rice just rice absolutely no flavor of any kind to this food whatsoever !! it's crazy that you could mess up something so basic. There wasn't a salt shaker in the world or a salsa bottle that could cover up the taste of this garbage not even hot sauce would help! Im very sorry I do not have a complicated pallet. This place is fabulous. The restaurant is clean and beautifully decorated. The staff were all terrific from the hostess to the servers and bar staff. We started with the drink special a hurricane margarita it was big tasty and Our food was just as delicious. The flavor was great the portion was large and the presentation was perfect. Very friendly service. Generous with refills on chips and salsa, which were both quite good. Chips tasted good, nice and crunchy. Salsa was flavorful with some pep without being very spicy so spice-adverse can still enjoy it. I had a ground beef taco and shredded chicken chalupa. Both were very good. Very tasty and juicy. Came with rice (pretty good) and refried beans (a little watery and runny, but tasted good). They also have horchata (sweet cinnamon rice drink) which I love. Decor was nice. Very pleasant arches. Saw the yelp reviews and gave it a shot. Would not go back. Salsa was merely average. Meal was not what was described on the menu. And then found a hair in my meal. They should have comped the whole meal- husband couldn't continue eating his meal after I pulled a hair from my mouth. They only comped the hairy dish. Geez. Extremely disappointed. Our food took forever to get to us and yes, they did have plenty of help and we were past the lunchtime rush, most of the tables were empty. We could tell our food sat in the warming station for quite a while as our rice was crispy from exposure to the heat lamp and the edges of our bean had also dried out. On a curve (the curve being that there is nothing decent to eat in Okeechobee), this place is okay. The chips tasted like they had been fried in old grease, the salsa was nothing to write home about, the queso wasn't great, the rice was dry and bland (I ended up pulling the tomatoes from my plate and out of the mild salsa to make the rice have some flavor). I had the chicken enchiladas suizas, and they were okay. Chicken was a little dry and slightly bland, but the green sauce was redeeming. The service was just fine as well. It's in a strip mall, but they've done okay with the decor, and I really liked the wood stuff all around that looked hand carved (but I'm sure wasn't). It was mostly clean, but the floor could have stood a bit of attention. Price-wise, it was cheaper than most Mexican food I've had, but... yeah, you get what you pay for. Meh. read more

We just moved to Okeechobee and have been trying out the different restaurants in town. I love Mexican food and this place is by far the best we have come across in the area. The staff is friendly and keeps refills coming, the food is always fresh and has a ton of flavor. My personal favorite is the Fajita Chimi! Oh and their chips and salsa are wonderful!! read more

Rode to Okeechobee yesterday with the family and stopped for lunch here. First time. Salsa & chips very good. Chips were fresh and not oily. Salsa had lots of flavor and mildly chunky with vegetables like I like it. All of our entrees were delicious. I ordered the build your platter with the pork tamale and shredded beef enchilada. The beans and rice were flavorful as well. My husband also ordered the build your platter and got the chalupa and burrito. He said that it was very good. My son ordered the fajita steak chimichanga, again very good. If we lived in Okeechobee this would be a regular spot for us. Good job Pueblo Viejo! Best Mexican restaurant in Okeechobee and even the Treasure Coast. I used to go to this restaurant in Fort Pierce till they moved to Okeechobee a few years ago. If you looking for more than your regular burritos, tacos etc. this is the place to try out their pretty expansive menu. My favorite dishes happen to be the Fish Cancun, the Machaca Con Huevos (beef /scrambled egg) and the Chicken Mexican (red salsa gravy). Add the really spicy green salsa on any of these dishes along with tortillas. Like their horchata too. read more

Bring your appetite because you will be well fed. The food is always good the restaurant is spacious and decorated with a traditional Mexican theme. Food is fine for Americanized mexican food. I found the plates to be small portions compared to the money spent. As far as flavor I felt the dishes were bland missing the spices and slight heat expected in Latin dishes. The most flavor found in my trip to this restaurant was in the complimentary salsa and nacho, I would definitely visit again for those. read more

The tortillas are an embarrassment to every Spanish culture and the service was equivalent to your typical McDonald's experience. We went here when visiting Okeechobee and asking for recommendations for Mexican food. It was unanimous that this was the best. Poor Okeechobians! I can't speak for the rest of my party, but my food was lackluster at best. The salsa was no better than what I could buy at the grocery store. I ordered the combo fajitas - chicken and beef. I have never seen fajitas like this. Instead of being little pieces that you could mix with the vegetables and put in the tortillas, they were lazy and just sliced it into big strips. Like an inch wide and 5 inches long. I've never seen such a thing in fajitas. The meat quality was good but the flavor just wasn't there. There was no flavor other than meat and vegetables. The rice and beans were also just rice and beans. I added salt so at least they were salty. The service was adequate but not welcoming or especially accommodating. It made me want to get back home to good Mexican food! I really expected better considering the considerable Hispanic population there. read more

Went with a party of six for dinner. Two for one cocktails for happy hour. Salsa was good but variable, as both mild and 'muy picante' were on the table. Had plenty of chips and salsa without having to order more, which is an additional cost. Had 3 item combo, tamale, chile relleno and chicken enchilada came with rice and refried beans. The chile relleno was particularly well done with an egg batter coating. Plenty of food for lunch the next day. Five out of the six of us were happy with the fare. The service was a little spotty. The server did not get the guacamole and sour cream I had ordered with the entre. The server was gone for long periods. Appeared to be running tables in two different rooms so maybe they were understaffed. Overall would try it again. Place was very clean. read more

My daughter and I went to this restaurant yesterday around 2:00 for lunch. We were seated and someone came to the table to ask what we would like to drink while leaving warm tortilla chips and two types of salsa. We gave them our drink order and proceeded to look over the menu. The menu is quite extensive and when we finally decided on what we wanted we waited a good while until I stopped someone and asked where our server was. He said that he would check and came back a minute later saying she was busy and that he would be glad to take our order. I asked his name and he said Carlos then proceeded to take our order. He was professional, pleasant and for some unknown reason became our server! Out of the blue when we were almost finished a young woman came over and asked if we wanted dessert and could she take the plates away. I have no idea who she was and when we paid for the meal I personally gave Carlos, who deserved it, the tip. The restaurant wasn't that busy so that whoever was our original server could have come over and said something like, "sorry to keep you waiting" or "did someone take your order". 1st time for us! Very nice presentation and decorations. Very friendly staff, very welcoming. Manager came by at end to make sure everyone was happy. Haven't been to a restaurant that has follow-up like that in awhile! Chips, salsa great. When we asked for dinner recommendations, an excellent dish was mentioned Asado & Poblano.
