The vegetable selection was interesting. This so called salsa tasted like straight up tomato sauce and was very weird to dip chips in. What can I possibly say about Rio Bravo Mexican Restaurant? THE GOOD: -They were open on 4th of July. -Staff was very nice. -The menu is a book, full of options. THE BAD: -A bit difficult to find. The GPS led us to the plaza but not the restaurant itself. -The restaurant was a ghost town upon arrival. It took a bit to find an employee to take our order. -The restaurant looks worn down and could benefit from some new and updated furniture. THE UGLY: -Possibly the best tortillas I've ever had, the vegetables also were so fresh, the rice flavorful. So what's the issue then? The meat was cheap, bland, and horrible given that everything else was A+. Consequently, four stars might be rather kind given how disappointing that meat was. We was looking for a Mexican breakfast and the wife was already wanting to try this place. We stopped in and the first impression is the place is clean but a bit on the dark side. Not hide and go seek dark but it's a little bit dark. There isn't a breakfast section on the menu but there are two breakfast plates on the menu. I had the shrimp devils it was very good. I don't usually give a bad review, but this one deserves one! I ordered the bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños. They looked delicious. When I went to cut off a piece, some white stuff with the consistency of Elmer's glue squirted out. Meh. Hot jalapeño, not much other flavor. The carne asada was incredibly chewy and hard to cut with a knife It was served with sautéed onions (tasted good), refried beans, tortillas, and guacamole. The plate was so hot, it was too hot to move without a bunched up napkin. I'm wondering if the meat wasn't cooked, just heated on the plate until it was almost crispy. Hubby doesn't like a lot of spice, but his burrito was even too bland for him. That's saying something!! We were charged for pop refills! We haven't been charged for pop refills in years! The service was awful. We were constantly waiting and had to flag down the waitress for anything we needed. She was too busy chatting up her coworkers near the front. The lack of decent restaurants in this town is shocking! Okeechobee is known for its bass fishing, but there doesn't seem to be anything else of interest!! It's sort of in an industrial area, but don't be discouraged. Go eat there now. It looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, but a few of us said it was the best Mexican restaurant we have ever eaten at. We had the Ceviche Royale. It was top notch. Nicely done, shrimp, fish, and scallops in tomatoes, red onions, cilantro, avocado, etc. Very good. Squeeze some lime over it. I also had the chicken Tortilla soup. Best decision I've ever made in my entire life. It was to die for. I want to pump this stuff into my veins it's so good. My daughter had the chicken quesadilla. It was literally the best chicken quesadilla we have ever tried. And she's an expert. Super tasty and the cheese had this taste to it that made it addicting. So flavorful. The rest of my party had burritos and fajitas and they made similar, "best Mexican food I've ever had" comments. We will literally come back to Florida and drive two hours to come back here. Congratulations to Rio Bravo. Very, very nicely done. We could tell that the kitchen takes a lot of pride in their food. On January 9,2020,my husband and I had another opportunity to eAt lunch at Rio Bravo. Again the food is the freshest prepared. Pollo con cream was deliciously prepared.
