The city of Los Algadones, Mexico is right across the border from Yuma, Arizona. During the winter season, hundreds of snowbirds from Canada and the US visit there for dental, eye glasses, to shop for souvenirs and eat.
Los Algadones has been called the 'city of the dentists' because there are so many dentists in town. There are also optical centers, pharmacies and little shops selling touristy goods such as shirts, bags, purses, ceramic wares, and food items like cinnamon, vanilla, honey and candy.
I enjoy going down once or twice a year. It's a fun to walk around and look at all the goods. I love the beautiful ceramics and, of course, I get a bit of candy. There are two restaurants that we have tried and really enjoyed. I met a guy in line who lives in Yuma who comes across just to buy tacos for his work. Wish I lived closer so I could do that! The Fish Veracruz and margaritas are amazing!
I recommend Los Algadones highly. It is a fun border town to visit. Just remember your passport if you plan to return to the US. read more
