honestly it just wasn't my favorite spot. The food was decent, but nothing really stood out or made me feel like it was worth going out of my way for. The service was fine, everyone was polite enough, but it wasn't anything memorable. The biggest downside for me was the overall atmosphere. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but neither area has AC, which made it pretty uncomfortable while trying to enjoy the meal. The place felt a little underwhelming compared to other restaurants we visited on the island. We were actually surprised at how cheap and good the food was. The service was sweet and pleasant as many of PRs eateries are full of joy and kindness. We ordered a chicken soup, pulpo (octopus) con tostones and chuleta frita con mofongo. My mom loved her pulpo and she remarked how well it was done. She's picky so I trust her. Though, in my opinion eating octopus is forbidden for me. Just no. But she loved it. My sister said her soup was really good. I loved my chuletas (well cooked and seasoned) and my mofongo was super soft and well done. I love that in PR mofongo is always a side dish as regular as rice in in the inner states. We ate good and the bill was super cheap for the portions we received. Id recommend this spot if you're getting ready for one of the boat tours. read more

We came to this downtown area and needed to eat quickly before our bioluminescence excursion. We were attracted to this place because it was open and well lit. The menu also had things that we thought would be ready quickly. We asked how long it would take to order a few things and they said 10-15 minutes so we went for it. Twenty minutes later we got our pizza, beef, and lobster empanadas. They were priced right and were really hot, so we know they were made to order (and also because of how long it took). There was a lot of dough, but it did hit the spot. The sauce on the beef wasn't my favorite, and the beef was not what I was expecting- tasted like a roast with some sauce. The rice was flavorless. The salad was typical of other salads I've had. This business is a scam and thieves. I visited them on July 5th and they over charged me $800 for my bill. I have been trying to contact them since July and the phone number listed is no good and they have refused to engage with me via Facebook. The waitress tossed our food at us, and was extremely rude. She wasn't attentive and neglected our table. She never brought us our bill so we had to go to the register ourselves and ask for it. Yesterday we went to take part in some activities in the area, and we thought this place would have good food, as the dining area seemed busy. We sat down and looked at the menu and it was very expensive compared to what prices usually are for food on the island. The appetizer we got with shrimp tasted like rubber, and as for the empanadas I ordered... the dough was raw. We ordered little pieces of fried chicken to share, and when it came we all tried it and it was gross. I don't know how you could mess up fried chicken, but they did. Folks at paradise snorkelling suggested grabibg lunch here. In the afternoon the hustle bustle is yet to pick up at la pareguera and this is probably the only option. The folks here are so warm and they seem genuinely concerned with the diners experience. I ordered for the house blue mojito. Apart from the color, I could not really tell the difference in flavor. Nevertheless, it had fresh mint and was a refreshing drink. My wife got the virgin pina colada. She lived it , especially the whipped cream on top. For entrees I got the fish aesopos. Its a rice soup with the right spices and is definitely a great meal by itself. The place has nothing to offer for vegetarians apart from tostones - beware it has a strong oil smell. We finished with a papaya cheese dessert. Its slices of papaya soaked in sugar syrup with blocks of cheese. I could manage fibishing half the portion but it did have a strange after taste. How to make it, what to eat with it and how to enjoy it. When the order did come out...what an amazing mofongo! Without a doubt the best restaurant mofongo I've ever had. It was moist, warm and deliciously served with a side of caldo that was equally awesome. Washing it down with an ice cold Medalla was heavenly! I watched other tourists come in and have the same reaction to the food. They offer a full menu but the star by far is the mofongo. Don't miss this spot when you come here! I've been to the island at least a dozen times and live with a Puerto Rican and this place SUCKS. Starting off, the service was awful. They came to take our order about 1 minute after we sat down, and we when asked for a few more minutes, we didn't see them again for 20. Out of 7 people, we ordered 1 kid's meal, and received it in 3 minutes....only to wait for the other 6 adult meals for about 30 minutes longer. Needless to say our youngest daughter had finished her plate by then. Then, we got our food, only to discover everything was horribly bland, and asked for salt and pepper...20 minutes later we reminded them again. Let's talk food; the most important part. My fiancé, from Puerto Rico, was appalled by his dish, and was embarrass by ours as well. He ordered the snapper fillet, and the waitress brought him the fish fillet, not snapper, but basa; a disgusting, smushy bland mess no human being should ever eat. Two of our daughters ordered Bistec Encebollado (steak with onions) and it was DRY, tough and again, bland. Seems to be the theme here. My dish, along with my sister-in-law's was mofongo. Dear God, I have eaten my weight in mofongo and can honestly say this was the worst I've ever had. My SisIL is also from Puerto Rico, and thought it to taste like boiled smushed plantains, BLAND. This dish should be garlicky, with small pieces of fried pork and some kind of seasoning. It was so bad I couldn't eat it. And trust me when I say I've had mediocre mofongo and still plow my way through it. BOTTOM LINE: if you want Puerto Rican food, don't eat here.
