I ordered the tenderloin filete mofongo mixto (tenderloin steak, mushrooms, onions, red peppers and green peas over mofongo in a brown gravy). Truly delicious!! My husband got the Pechuga Rellena (chicken cordon bleu) and it was the best one we have ever had. The place was packed! But they had lots of servers and they were attentive. The place was recommended by my brother who comes here regularly and always has a good experience. We had an assortment of appetizers (all fried but hey, it's Puerto Rico and we fry a lot of things) The temperature of the restaurant was a little too warm for my liking. Several different search engines recommended this place and they were right on the money. A fantastic meal in Ponce! I love being a tourist in Puerto Rico; you never know when something amazing is about to happen. This restaurant is unassuming, in the parking lot of a strip mall anchored by a Marshall's. The parking lot is essentially gravel. The door was locked and we were buzzed on. The building looks like it started life as a Pizza Hut. Inside, the place is efforting towards higher end, with lovely dressed staff and a rack of wine bottles. The server knew the menu and was happy to give recommendations. A solid mojito. Very good escargot, which I didn't anticipate in Puerto Rico. Our best dinner in Puerto Rico! Staff was incredible; One of the few restaurants in PR that didn't make us feel hunted as tourists. Someone in reviews described the service level as Michelin star; as someone who has a hobby in collecting stars, I think that's crazy... but, for what you will get compared to elsewhere on the island-- yes, this is great service. I ordered the fish stuffed with lobster- yum. But what truly was THE dish of all dishes was what my husband ordered... I am so sorry to have forgotten the Spanish name, but it was a steak with a lot of onions (photo attached!). SO much flavor, cooked perfectly, a must try! If you go to Ponce, this is a MUST stop for dinner. A word of warning: it is located in a VERY sketchy parking lot. You have to be buzzed in to enter the restaurant, and buzzed out to leave. Upon departure, we were approached by a very intoxicated woman who was waiting for a customer to leave the restaurant and harassed us for money. La Casa Del Chef has some great seafood dishes. I had the Conch Salad ($28.95) and Lobster Mofongo ($29.95). The lobster mofongo comes with a choice of tomato sauce or garlic sauce. I chose the garlic sauce and I loved the strong garlic taste to the lobster - my only warning woeuld be that the garlic sauce those have a lot of butter in it. The conch salad was incredibly refreshing and a must try! The conch was so tender and the dressing had a perfect balance of acidity and spice! The pina coladas were $5.50 each and tasted great. The serve you complimentary garlic bread as you sit down, which i wish I cold have more of. I got the sweet plantains (amrillos) and tostones as a side. The amarillos were delicious. The tostones was a bit dry, but I dipped them in the garlic-butter sauce from the lobster mofongo and it was the perfect accompaniment. My favorite meal I had while visiting Puerto Rico. It had me wishing we were closer to Ponce so we could have dined here multiple times. The service was on point and the pina coladas were **mixologist's kiss**. We ordered the shrimp mofongo, black bean soup, empanadas, and shredded fried plantains (forgot the name). The shrimp mofongo was a generous portion and enough for my husband and I to share- it was absolutely delicious and the best mofongo we had on the island. The black bean soup was equally packed with flavor and made for a good comfort food after a long rainy day. The empanadas were large and packed with lots of well-seasoned beef. I wish we had ordered another shrimp mofongo to go since were staying 1.5 hours outside of Ponce, but it is okay. After a nice Don Q rum tour, this is the spot to go to! read more

Hugely recommend La Casa del Chef. The o my downside was the loudness of the customers themselves -- couldn't hear a thing the waiter was saying. We had the monfongo de pollo, a pescado dorado, rice and beans (I don't recall what the proper name is) and an order of beef turnovers. Wow... Just wow. Food was INCREDIBLE. My future wife and I started with Maduros as an appetizer for our main courses, we got the garlic grilled chicken and the steak with onions and garlic. We also added a side order of Mofongo for good measure. Everything just melts in your mouth... I absolutely loved our experience there, and the dining vibe reminds me of being at one of those hidden Italian restaurants you see in Manhattan all the time. Very dim, soft lighting, cozy. At first, the service started off OK with the first server, then a second server who was taking over, came over to the table, and that didn't go so well, but the third server who came over to take care of us got everything right and on point. Not sure what happened whether was a shift change, but next time I'm in Ponce, I'm definitely coming back. Oh yeah, and we ran into four horses in the parking lot, which was pretty cool! Like another reviewer wrote, we wound up at Casa del Chef accidentally when lost, trying to find a different restaurant that turned out to be in someone's garage. Arriving, I didn't expect to be as impressed as I was: the restaurant is in a strip mall. Upon walking in, the entire restaurant is WOW, gorgeous inside, and very upscale. We definitely felt underdressed in jeans and t-shirts. But, the staff is very friendly and grounded, and that did not seem to be an issue! The food was amazing. Located in the South Pearl (Ponce), this place is a true gem. Earned several awards as well decorated and elegant location or something like that. From the minute you walked in you notice the nice paintings which by the way are for sale. Service is very attentive but in rush hour just be patient. The bread with butter and garlic "on the house" were just the tip of the iceberg. We were a large family group and 90% were more than pleased with their orders. Obviously, grandma is hard to be pleased. My fish in guava sauce was delicious and the "arrańitas" which translate to little spiders were as crunchy as I dreamed with no/zero/nada of an oily taste, just perfect. The tres leches "3 milks" dessert was ok and although from a visual perspective it looked pretty nice, I have had way better ones (sorry). Dinner portions were appropriate as well as the price. This place was a little hard to find when following Apple Maps, but it was worth figuring out. I had the halibut and it was perfectly cooked. The cilantro sauce was recommended and I've only ever had cilantro as an add on in guacamole or pico, I knew I liked it but as a sauce on the halibut it was a profound discovery that it could stand alone in a sauce! I love tostones so I went with it as my side. Kinda boring but it's what I like. Staff is super friendly and welcoming, the inside of the building looks new and is very well kept.
