In 2021, after 3 summers in a row of wildfire smoke in Seattle, we made a decision to remove our chimneys and let go of the nostalgia of a wood fire. By removing two chimneys, we created space for 10 more panels, added an electric induction stove, a heat pump, and closed our account with the gas company. With net metering by Seattle City Light, various state and federal tax incentives, the entire installation has nearly paid for itself. I've been waiting to write a review to see how they performed through the year to validate the promises made when we signed the agreement. I'm not the least bit disappointed. My experience with PSS is that they were transparent and honest every step of the way, with every person I spoke to being highly professional. It was easy to get a quote, and then to get scheduled, and to pay my invoice at the end. A friction free customer experience. I reached out to PSS while looking for competing quotes after first being approached by door knockers for one of the larger national solar installers. The difference in experience between these two companies was night and day. Puget Sound Solar provided a quote in writing and assured me that the price I was quoted is what I would pay. Could not be happier. Our installation was completed 2 weeks ago and everyone we dealt with at Puget Sound Solar was completely professional, efficient, and informative at every step. This was really important because we really knew very little about solar going in to the process and we feel very comfortable now as custodians of the system. I was especially apprehensive going in, because we thought the tax incentives were expiring and the company that had the best reviews on line was no longer booking projects due to excess demand, so Puget Sound Solar was our "second choice" in order to get the work done in time. Now the incentives have been extended (and Puget Sound Solar was well informed about what was going on tax-wise) and I don't see any reason why Puget Sound Solar would be anyone's second choice. I hired these folks to install a Tesla Wall Charger after reaching out to around a half dozen companies. They were the first to get back to me with a clear, itemized bid. The electrician they sent out (Ryan) was punctual, communicative, professional, friendly, was able to answer nearly all my questions, and didn't BS me when I asked him something he didn't know the answer to (regarding the specifics of the Tesla charger I purchased). Their price was a little on the high side compared to other bids I received, but I'd say the clarity and professionalism was well worth it. I'd rather pay a bit more for a job by a company that communicates and makes expectations clear from the get-go than save money working with folks who are less organized. The charger also works better than expected. I have no complaints at all about the entire process and would certainly hire these folks and recommend them in the future. read more

In addition to the panels themselves, we had PSS upgrade our electrical panel to handle the additional load. We worked with Bill as the Project Manager for the solar install and Nick, Paul, and RJ did the solar install. Everyone was highly responsive, quick to answer any questions, extremely helpful in designing the system and pointing us in the right direction for our needs. They never tried to upsell us (they actually told us we were going too big and should downsize) and were extremely professional throughout the entire process. There was even a bit of a payment snafu and they were understanding and patient while it was addressed. Their bid came in towards the lower end of all the bids we received and we are very happy we went with PSS. We are in the middle of working with Andrew on the EV wall unit install and he too has been super responsive and helpful in addressing a myriad of questions. I have been thinking for days about how best to express my experiences with this business. It's hard to know how to say all the good things I have to say, and still keep a review short enough to be of reasonable length for the Internet. And I may have failed on the "short enough" metric. That said... If you read no further, know this much: every business should aspire to be the kind of business Puget Sound Solar is: the customer comes first, and the employees have the technical know-how to make that happen easily. I first came across PSS years ago, when we purchased an electric car. A friend of mine had installed solar panels, but had also used their "EV Support" division to handle the hookup for their own electric car's charging station. They had nothing but great things to say about PSS, so we called them to do the charging station at our house for our new car. They provided a ton of personalized support while I was researching products (the charging station), and trying to figure out exactly what configuration would work best for us. I had a laundry list of detailed questions, and they fielded them handily and with the patience of a saint. Eventually, we figured out exactly what we wanted to install, they handled all of that, and we were super happy with the results. A few years later, we had a problem with the charging station, where it was tripping the circuit breaker. I found that the plug for the charging station was very warm. I contacted PSS late that day; their president/CEO Jeremy came out personally first thing the next morning, found that the plug hadn't quite been installed correctly, and repaired it. The service call was at no charge to us, and could not have been any more responsive. This is exactly how every single business should treat their customers, but sadly PSS is the only one I can even think of that, in my experience, does this, never mind every time. Naturally, with their track record with us, when it came time to look at solar panels for a new home construction project, they were the first company we called. This was a couple of years later, but the standard of service hadn't changed one iota. Again, I had a laundry list of questions, and again they answered every single one, patiently, accurately, and completely. Their sales process for the panels is thorough, and provides the homeowner with every detail they need to understand the full economic implications of the purchase, with several different options to allow the homeowner to understand what trade-offs are possible in terms of up-front cost vs long-term benefit. Granted, it's to their benefit to educate the customer, since it's only by doing so that the customer can really see how sinking money into the panels up front can reap rewards later down the road. But still, the way that they handle all of this, providing answers to all the questions one asks, promptly, accurately, and happily, is something that I find is rare, if not unique. Ultimately, the panel package we selected, of the ones that they proposed, fit our needs very well and was competitively priced. It's been producing power for almost six months now, and so far has met our expectations. The PSS staff has been excellent at helping guide us through every little detail; the installation of a grid-tied solar system in WA is no small feat, what with all the various paperwork for the different agencies one has to deal with, and PSS ensured that all of this was as painless as possible. They handled every single detail that they could; all we had to do was provide them information about our Puget Sound Energy account, and sign the various forms. The professionalism from PSS has been unparalleled. For our panel installation, beyond just the initial consultation, there is of course the actual work. Electrical prep, the physical installation, final hook-up, and of course all the coordination with PSE. The installation took place in the middle of other construction activities, and the PSS team was superb in their accommodation of and coordination with the rest of the construction crew. I can't imagine any person faking the kind of sincerity in caring about the customer's needs that we received from every person working for PSS. It's so refreshing to work with people who genuinely have my best interests in mind, and who put the effort in to make sure they are met. If my own experience is any indication, PSS will take you from knowing nothing at all about solar panels, to having a solar panel system installed on your house that meets your needs as well as any system could, while ensuring that every step of the way is a breeze. You might find it suspicious a company has nothing but five star reviews on Yelp. But, this is no joke. This company is the real deal, and deserves every single star. We're repeat customers. On the recommendation of a solar design consultant [Chris Herman of Winter Sun Design] we hired them in 2008 to install a solar hot water system. Installation was quick and efficient, and we immediately noticed a drastic drop in our gas bill, especially in the summer. So when we had to replace our gas furnace this fall, we thought of moving away from frack-happy natural gas to a system that could employ solar energy. Our gas heating company offered a hybrid system that required gas furnace backup and so did two others--all smelled of corporate slickness. But we remembered the folks at Puget Sound Solar and called them. Hah! Lower prices, better guarantees, and seamless interaction with other needed upgrades made the choice an easy one. Unfortunately for us, PSS has become so successful that they were booking dates 8 to 10 weeks out, so we had to wait a few weeks for our new heaters to be installed, and the solar panels had to wait until we could finish insulating the attic. But now the system is complete and working very well. I love watching the electric meter spin backward on sunny days! Aside from doing high-quality work, these people deserve a lot of credit for tirelessly and selflessly promoting solar energy throughout the region. I recently purchased a new home in Seattle's Arboretum neighborhood and my real estate agent, who'd previously installed solar at her own home, recommend Puget Sound Solar (PSS) as an alternative to another local outfit.  Subsequently, I thoroughly reviewed PSS's website and read their online reviews before deciding to contact them.  Shortly thereafter I received an email including a  preliminary solar proposal from Julie (sales manager and design engineer).  We scheduled a site visit during which Julie inspected my property, inquired as to my anticipated electric power needs, explained solar technology, discussed possible configurations, and outlined PSS's installation timeline.  She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient and she promptly followed up her visit with a revised solar quote proposing six options based on detailed shade reports which she provided me.  We discussed the various alternatives in detail before settling on a clever solution which would allow me to have panels installed on both east and west facing roofs.  After scheduling an installation date, Julie introduced me to Lyudmila (permit technician) and Bill (project manager).  Lyudmila provided detailed datasheets and took care of the extensive paperwork/permits associated with installation so that I didn't have to directly interact with Seattle City Light.  Bill visited the property a few days before the installation to inspect the electrical panel and to develop an optimal wiring strategy.  He discussed all aspects of the installation, answered any questions I had, and assured me that there'd be no disruption of electrical service throughout the installation.  The installation itself progressed very smoothly and took three days due to the extreme steepness of my metal roof.  The installers and electrician were industrious, efficient, friendly, and courteous.  I was very impressed with the quality of their workmanship and their ability to install the hardware while maintaining the architectural integrity of the property.  Immediately following the installation and after overseeing the inspection, Bill reviewed the hardware setup, attached the unit to my WiFi network, described the web-based monitoring app, and discussed the service/warranty policies.  Since installation, the system's been operating flawlessly and I'm generating more than adequate power to fulfill my needs.  I was impressed by the professionalism of the PSS employees I interacted with and I was pleased that all aspects of the installation, from start to finish, progressed smoothly.  Without reservation, I strongly recommend Puget Sound Solar for your residential solar energy needs. read more
