I feel the need to warn other parents about this really sub-par pediatric office. We went to Dr. Evans there, who we love, and she's no longer at the practice so I feel comfortable writing this review for the overall practice. Operations: Start counting the hours of your time that this practice will waste. 98% of the time when you call them, there is an automated message that just says "please call back later" and hangs up on you without being able to leave a message. If you choose any of the menu options where you can leave a message (e.g., billing department), the message becomes "this mailbox is not monitored, please call the main office number". I feel like I'm being punked. They also charge you $25 for calling the on-call service with more urgent questions. When we finally did switch to another practice, they only sent over half my son's records and I had to call back a thousand times through their ridiculous system once again. Medical care: At our son's 1-year appointment, we made our next appointment at the front desk which they made for when he was 18 months. We did not question this. When we came back at 18 months, we were chided by the medical staff for "missing his 15 month appointment and so he's behind on his vaccines, which is very dangerous in this time period of increased respiratory illnesses". We also asked at every visit if we could receive a COVID vaccine for him, and were told we'd be put on a wait list and it would be available by the next visit, but it never was. Doomed before it started. Unprofessional. Neglectful. We had to change pediatricians for our 2yr simply because our employer switched insurance providers. Needless to say this was stressful enough. After researching pediatricians in the city that were accepting new patients, I reached out to Pullman & Associates. After an initial phone call, we felt good moving fwd with starting the process on switching to Pullman & Associates. We were given the list of items we needed to provide, all was standard, and everything was provided within a couple of days. I emailed to confirm they had received everything they need in order to register our 2yr old. I was told everything was set. I reached out a few days later to discuss scheduling their 3rd old appointment/check up, which wasn't for a few months, but wanted to be proactive. Again I was confirmed that registration was all set, and the appointment would be scheduled 2 months prior to turning 3. Up to this point, based on my communications I was under the impression my child was a registered patient as Pullman & Associates. Not ONCE was I told there was anything missing, etc. Fast fwd. a few weeks and my child develops an ear infection. They've had ear infections in the past and has needed tubes put in, so we were pretty certain this was the case again. I reach out to schedule an appointment the next day at 9am and initially i'm told the appointment is set for 1pm, I am relieved knowing that they'll be seen the same day. I'm suddenly asked to hold, a couple minutes they come back and they tell me: "i'm sorry but your child is not a registered patient here, something was entered incorrectly. They're not going to be able to be seen today" HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? After doing everything that was asked After providing everything that was required & getting confirmation that everything was good to go After FOLLOWING up and asking if everything was completed & getting confirmation that everything was good to go The day my child needed medical attention, they were denied healthcare. I hope no one else has a such a horrible experience. Fortunately our pediatrician/new insurance are compatible now so we don't have to deal with this negligence again. read more

I do not recommend choosing Dr. Pullman as your pediatrician. We went to two appointments at this office before we decided to move on. On our first visit, our newborn child was four days old, there for her first checkup. This was in the middle of a pandemic, and this office had zero Covid protocols. No temperature checks or screening prior to arrival, nor did the desk staff bother to wear the mask that was draped over one ear. Ah yes, the front desk staff. I interrupted her game of candy crush to check in for my appointment, and I think that got me on her bad side. After I checked in, she directed us to exam room #2, whose "#2" sign had actually fallen off the door many years ago. "Please undress your child," she said, "the doctor will be right in." Five minutes later, the entire office departed for a lunch break for the better part of the afternoon. The clock on the wall, neglected for years, was frozen at 11:45am, having ticked its last tock sometime in the late 1980's. We waited for an hour and a half holding our naked newborn child, eventually re-dressing her, before Dr. Pullman graced us with her presence. I don't want to be "that parent" that thinks his kid deserves special treatment, but you don't keep the four-day old baby waiting 90 minutes. She's got a schedule to keep. It's just not a recipe for success for anybody involved in the situation. The visit was haphazard and without clear purpose - no notes or take-home instructions; we were prescribed an antibiotic without any guidance on how long to use it. After asking three times for a copy of what was done at our first visit ("what would you need that for?" she said), we were begrudgingly given a photocopy of handwritten notes to take home that were not legible. Yup, a paper records system. Erin, the NP, we saw on our second visit and was a refreshing change of pace. She was super helpful and clear with her guidance. We have seen her many times for many years for many complicated (and not complicated) health problems, and she is super-smart and is connected with superb specialists if the situation requires it. Dr. Pullman, nurse Erin, and nurse Asha have provided our three kids with exceptional care for the last five years. We appreciate early morning walk-in hours when the kids are sick and have never had difficulty scheduling regular appointments. During one very busy period at the practice, Dr. Pullman saw our infant and our toddler outside regular hours to ensure they got their recommended well-child visits and associated vaccinations without delay. Dr. Pullman has consistently been there for us and our kids when we have needed her, calling back to answer questions and supporting two of our children during their NICU days. In our experience, the office thoroughly follows COVID-19 protocols and the current administrative staff is friendly and efficient. read more

Before the review, let me say the nurses at this practice are fantastic! But that is where any positive review ends. Prepare to be put on hold for at least 3-5 min every call. Prepare to wait at least 30 minutes for the doctor. And prepare to be treated like you truly don't matter by the staff constantly. Can't explain how many times lack of care and miscommunications by the staff at this office happened. They do not care to call to let you know that the reason for them not sending much needed forms to another doctor or daycare (which has still yet to happen to date!) is a small fee they never told you about over many phone calls, yet still treat you as if you are at fault. They do not care about your time or your child's need for care enough to even simply follow up after an ER visit in the age of COVID And your child has nearly a 106 fever. I love this office. Dr. Grace was our pediatrician but went on maternity leave. We've been seeing Erin, the NP since then. She is warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and great with our son. We've only seen Dr. Pullman once (when Erin wasn't available). Dr. Pullman is fantastic too. The medical staff is great! They're so friendly and playful with my son and make giving him his shots a better experience. The front desk staff has gotten better too. There's been some changeover recently and I find them to be friendly, nice and helpful. read more

Awful. Terrible. Where do I start? 2 hour waits to see someone or being forgotten about entirely until you stick your head out the door to remind them you are still there. Nurse practitioners and doctors telling me to undress my child in their freezing consult rooms then having to wait through the entire consultation with the child wrapped in nothing but a blanket for them to do the physical examination. Being given formula despite telling them repeatly I wanted to exclusively breastfeed - no other options were discussed. Having to tell the nurse practitioner basic information about my daughter at every visit even though it should have already been on file. The rudest front office staff ever who tried to blame me for not turning up to an appointment that was clearly scheduled incorrectly. A doctor who would only look at my husband during consultations - even when talking about breastfeeding. There is nothing good about this practice other than its location in downtown DC. read more

We are new to DC from NYC, and read a few recommendations on mommy blogs. Nowhere does it state on their website that they only accept newborns. I was immediately placed on hold for 10 minutes before I was more or less abruptly informed that my 2 1/2 year old could or would not be taken. Including Googling due diligence, and then the obligatory visit to United Healthcare site to determine their "in-network" status... what a waste of my time. How on earth does this practice show up as 4 stars based on ONE review? I think it's bloody ridiculous that Yelp has hidden TWELVE filtered reviews that would have reduced this practice to 1 or 2 stars at best. Discounting the single-review users, that's a 2, a 2, a 1 and a 1. I believe that's called consensus: P&A is at the very least a poorly run practice. read more

Our family has been a part of the Pullman practice for over 11 years and I have been extremely pleased with the level and care that has been provided by her and by her staff. We have 2 children and they actually never complain about going to the doctor. They know they will see friendly faces who explain clearly what is going on. I feel very lucky for their open office hours in the morning for sick visits and I find that I can call during the day and have questions answered/calls returned the same day. We must be naive, easy to please, or just super lucky, because I honestly don't think P&A is all that bad. Then again, we've only been twice, and the only doctor we've seen is Dr. Anderson, so take this review for what it's worth. Some background: we used to go to Capitol Medical Group (see that review) and absolutely adore the doctors there. Alas, CMG doesn't take our new insurance, and hence our move to P&A. Dr. Anderson may not be warm and fuzzy, but I found her to be perfectly pleasant. (Besides, I'm looking for a doctor, not a BFF.) She was also thorough, patient, generous with advice without being pushy or condescending, and last, but not least, prompt! The admin staff could be friendlier, but no one's been rude or curt. The nurse we saw on our sick visit last week was very sweet and got a huge smile out of my son, despite the fact that he was getting really antsy from the wait. Another nurse did leave us waiting for 45 minutes in the exam room for a test result (we left after telling the front desk to call us with the information), but at least she apologized profusely when she called us later. They have sick hour from 8 to 9 every morning, i.e., a sick child can be seen during that time without an appointment. The wait can be long, though -- I think we showed up at 8:30 but weren't seen until 9:30. Hmmm, should have gone around the corner to Trade Joes. Thai Lime & Chile Peanuts!! read more

Our three year old has been a patient of Dr. Pullman since he was an infant. We find her pleasant and very professional. We had some issues when our child was an infant and Dr. Pullman spent hours (yes hours) working with us to resolve them and reassure us, even going so far as to call us in the evening to check on progress. She's been pediatrician for decades and a senior pediatrician at Children's Hospital so I trust her judgment. She gives practical advice and really pays attention. She's patient and kind and our son feels very comfortable with her. We've also seen Dr. Ariza and also think she is a very good pediatrician. We plan to continue to use this practice and highly recommend it. I love that they have a walk-in hour from 8-9 each morning and I'm surprised that the reviewer below criticized how long it took to see the doctor - of course if you show up to a walk-in towards the middle or end there are going to be lots of other kids ahead of yours. When we had our first child, Dr. Pullman was recommended to us by friends who had three children in her practice. We are continually thankful for that recommendation! Dr. Pullman is very attentive and her depth of experience is comforting to a new parent. She really gets to know families and has gone the extra mile for us more than a handful of times (after-hours calls, urgent school forms, researching special conditions, etc). She understands that each child and family are different and she makes thoughtful, practical recommendations for strategies and treatments within that context. I also cannot say enough good things about Asha and Erin. Asha is absolutely magical when it comes to giving shots or taking swabs, and she always greets kids like family, which makes them feel welcome and comfortable. And Erin has impressed me with her ability to make a tricky diagnosis with complete assurance (more than twice!), even over the phone. She's friendly and unflappable, and her confidence is both comforting and contagious. I am exceedingly, obnoxiously, particular about medical professionals. I want them to be competent, engaging, and thoughtful with a good bedside manner. The best review I can give this practice is that they have earned our trust and loyalty through many trials and visits over the past 6 years. Kids are thoughtfully cared for and parents are supported. Added bonus: I love that there are two doors to the practice, with separate waiting areas and exam rooms for sick kids who may be contagious! read more

My 3 kids, including the oldest (now 10) went through Dr. Pullman and I have to say we have complete trust in her diagnosis. I value her experience and knowledge the most. My parents took me to Dr. Pullman for years. She is a bully, plain and simple. She would harass me about my weight (very normal for a young girl but I went through puberty early) and about my genetic conditions. She instilled in me a fear and hate of doctors. I will give a 3 star only because the Doctors are nice and thorough, however they nickel and dime you and the office furniture is disgusting. It is literally the SAME furniture, toys and books they had when I started bringing my daughter there 18yrs ago. That is a nice area, nice building with a low income looking office. I feel they can do better and should want to do better. Also, the wait times are not desireable. That to mean is unprofessional to have your patients waiting in the waiting room for 30-45 mins and then often times another 20-30 mins in the exam room. Schedule accordingly. read more

We love Dr. Pullman. She has a no nonsense approach but is also very kind and gentle. We only met Dr. Ariza once at the hospital but she was very personable. The review would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the receptionists, who are rude and/or incompetent. Update: lowering amount of stars because of yet another terrible experience with office staff. They took a message of mine last week, told me they would have someone call me back, and have yet to do so. I found this Office when I was pregnant with my son, whose now 4. Our doctor is Dr. Ariza (although we have seen Dr. Grace and Dr. Pullman). I would not trade Dr. Ariza for anything. We love her and she's been exceptional to our son, Nico. Both Dr. Pullman and Dr. Ariza came to see us at Sibley when I gave birth and we have continued to get exceptional care. My son always looks forward to going for his visits, EVEN after getting shots. That says a lot! I do think they could use more competent administrative support, but I am not rating their administrative support. I would deal with any administrative support so long as the doctors were amazing, and they are. read more

I contacted P&A before giving birth and they told me that one of their med staff would come and visit me at the hospital after my son was born in order to do the first check up. No one came, despite numerous efforts by the hospital staff to contact them. At the two-week check-up, the first thing Dr Pullman said to me was "mom, you look tired, you should get more sleep". Thank you, I have a newborn baby. She then proceeded to man-handle my son in the freezing cold exam room while he was screaming like crazy with no kind words or efforts to soothe him -- very little compassion for a children's doctor. The last straw was when they gave me Metabolic Screening results for the wrong child, telling me that my child had a genetic disorder "that was the best of genetic disorders, so no need to worry". Not until I got home and looked over the paperwork on my own did I realize the results were for another child! On multiple fronts, this peds service was below average. The one exception was Dr Grace --she was lovely, a great communicator, and very compassionate!! But these experiences as a whole made it impossible for us to stay. read more

My older daughter has been seeing Dr Ariza since we moved to DC nearly three years ago. She LOVES Dr Ariza. We recently had a new baby. She was born a few days after Christmas and Dr Ariza was on vacation so we saw Dr Pullman, who has also been fantastic. I can't say enough wonderful things about these doctors. We love Dr. Pullman. We transferred to her office more than 12 years ago from another practice. Our kids are now in college and high school. She's been a trusted partner to both us as parents and to the children throughout their adolescence. She is warm, kind, and has a deep understanding of the physician and emotional changes and challenges of childhood. Her advice is practical and actionable, her instincts are spot on, and, most importantly, it works! Even in college my daughter still asks to see Dr. Pullman when home. Horribly managed pediatrics office. As a physician who manages healthcare facilities, I know that it is patient abandonment when newborn twins, who are established with the practice, cannot be seen within one month. The excuse: The doctors are on vacation and we are seeing who will be covering. Sorry, but that is inexcusable. A pediatrics practice MUST have covering providers available for routine and urgent appointments. This practice does not. It verges on malpractice. We have been going to Pullman & Ariza since my first son's birth in 2013. Sometimes there is a long wait, but I CANNOT say enough about the care both of my kids received. Our favorite go to care provider is Erin Crone. She is AWESOME--kind, patient and great care provider. We've also had Dr. Grace and Dr. Pullman--both of whom were also great doctors. We are super happy here and highly recommend the office. Negatives: Sometimes there are long waits. Positives: GREAT care and will always see us even on short notice!!! read more

We have been taking our son to Dr. Pullman for 16 years. I can't imagine a more caring, thoughtful, and knowledge professional. Yes, we've waited awhile at times, but it's been worth it since Dr. Pullman isn't on a 10 minute clock. When its your turn, you get her complete attention for as long as it takes.. Through the years, we've confronted several medical issues, and she has always been there for us and our child. And so has Dr. Ariza, and the Nurse Practitioners. The front office staff has been fine, not great, but better than the average doctor's office. Neither my wife nor I can understand some of the comments posted her. Why does it seem like everyone is miserable at Pullman and Ariza? My son is 10 months old and is on the "alternative" vaccination schedule (meaning he gets his vaccines spread across the year rather than lumping them all together) so I go in at least once a month + for any other ailments. The front office staff leaves much to be desired. The new-ish girl in the OR scrubs and ponytail couldn't be less friendly. It confuses me greatly because I could not be a more upbeat friendly new mom. I WANT to LOVE my pediatrician but the front office never cracks a smile. This is a CHILDREN'S doctor's office. Why the long face? Then there's Dr. Pullman and Dr. Ariza. I've seen both doctors a number of times and both have very different personalities. Pullman is a bit gruff, but that's ok because I like straight-shooter doctors. Dr. Ariza has a tribute to her mother (who was a doctor) in the front office detailing how her mother inspired her to be a doctor and how passionate she is -- and yet, when I see her, she's in the biggest hurry to the point where I am stressed out trying to remember all of the questions I need to go over. Pullman and Ariza's motto "Our mission is to provide state of the art pediatric care in a pleasant, child-friendly and trusting environment." The pleasant and child-friendly part need to be re-addressed. I will say Erin the nurse practitioner is so sweet and knowledgeable. The nurses are all very sweet too. Sue, the main nurse is amazing. But because the front office is the first to greet me and the last to snarl as I leave, I always walk out of the office fuming. read more

INdeed, Dr. Anderson is very good. To us, what really threatens this practice is the Admin staff they have. IN particular, a young lady speaking spanish. Calling for an appointment and being asked "What do you want?" is quite something... Or putting you to wait over an hour in one of the offices...not nice. Particularly when babies are small. I understand babies can be sick and need full attention of the Dr., I would like this if mine is ever sick. BUT, the support staff could tell you something like "today there are many sick babies and waiting time is long, if it is not urgent, maybe you would like to re-schedule?"...or??? Every time we get there is at least 1,5hrs...plus time getting there plus time back...=entire morning. I would be fine with it id the staff there would be nice. But they are not. At the end of the day no harm was done, but what if she had given her an adult dose... what if she had given her the wrong medicine... a tired, hungry and overworked (I am not going to say incompetent since I don't think I am qualified to make that judgement) nurse could have really hurt our child through simple carelessness. Mere mention of this office conjures up such unpleasant feelings that even writing this review is something I've been trying to stay away from. It is incumbent upon me, though, to warn other young parents of the danger to your mental health that this office poses. In contrast with others, we didn't have too many issues with the wait times. More problematic, though, was the fact that records of vaccinations done in their office were mishandled, resulting in the practice not being able to tell us whether in fact our children had received their required immunizations. This then led to blood tests. For that, we were then billed $50 (on top of whatever they billed our insurance). Apparently, we could have avoided this expense by going down the hall to Quest Diagnostics, but of course the nurses weren't interested in apprising us of this. A combination of incompetence and penny-pinching is nothing something that any parent needs in their pediatric practice-of-choice, so we've since found another provider. read more
