Dr. Balfour is a careful, practiced pediatrician with years of experience and the old-school style that goes along with it. Dr. Balfour may be considered too cautious by some, and make no mistakes, he will order tests for just about everything, but he is genuinely concerned about the health and well being of his patients. His cautiousness most likely stems from the fact that he got his MD in 1950s Argentina where he had much more to worry about than sniffles and strep throat. Dr. Balfour runs a very efficient office, and I have never had to wait longer than a few minutes. He also has separate waiting rooms for contaigious patients and patients that are just there for a checkup or diagnostic, which is such a good idea that it makes me wonder why it is not standard practice in every doctor's office. My only bad experience with him involved him refusing to sign a permission slip to participate in a scuba diving class at Montgomery College when he asked if I enjoyed a certain plant of dubious legal standing, but like I said, he is old school.

They have a primary care physician assigned - Dr. Sexter - but they have at some point or another been seen by all of their physicians. Every one of them are great: kind, compassionate, attentive, and responsive. You will feel heard and they will address your concerns. Their knowledge and expertise is extraordinary. The office - staff and doctors - are also super responsive. If you have a pressing question, someone will get back to you that day. If it's an after hours emergency, there is always a doctor on call and they will respond within 30 minutes. The doctors hold daily office hours but it can be tricky to get a hold of them if they're experiencing a volume of calls. An extra perk I like is that they keep appointments available daily for those common but unplanned for illnesses, and they have a separate waiting room for sick vs not sick. It just runs so well you wonder why more doctors' offices don't do the same. Now of course, the one downside is they are out of network. It's not cheap. I think it's worth it if you can, but financially it can hurt if your kids have a lot of illnesses or shots in a limited period of time. They do at least submit the insurance forms for you, and that helps some. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice and all the doctors in it, and have a deep appreciation for how Dr. Sexter and Nurse Jennifer have taken care of our girls.

My 2 year old is highly afraid of Shots AND doctors, but Dr. Lamson was able to entertain the little guy enough where he allowed him to pull his pant leg up so that he could administer the vaccine on his thigh, he cried a bit, but after that, he wanted Dr. Lamson to play with him. My 4 year old, on the other hand, loved how Dr. Lamson installed a video game system in the waiting lobby and he also enjoyed the decorations that were put up in the patient room. He asked me if he could come here for his future wellness visits and we just might schedule both of their wellness visits here and just leave emergency and sick visits for our local pediatrics!

I also love the way the office is set up and it is so convenient that she is the only doctor that works in the building so the wait time for being seen is very quick. The physical site is gorgeous, parking is nearby (not free though) and it's metro accessible. It's clean, the staff are friendly and professional and they have an in-house lab which saves a trip to Lab Corp. Additionally, they now offer mental health services which is a nice bonus. If you need a prescription called in to your local pharmacy, you can request via their app or website. If you have a non-urgent issue and need advice, you can message a nurse or doctor for help. If you have an urgent (non-emergency) issue, you can usually get an appointment relatively quickly; scheduling through the app is very easy. The user interface is easy to navigate. Also, the staff don't try to "upsell" you in any way or pressure you to get an unnecessary vaccine or test. In closing, I highly recommend OneMedical. It's worth the annual fee (which isn't that pricey IMHO). There are locations throughout the country - and the network of providers at every location is superb.

I am supposed to get "walk-in" lab work periodically, and almost every time I go to this office to do it, they are not available, even though I only go during their published lab hours. They allow no contact directly to the office, so there is no way to check and see if their lab has randomly decided not to work today. My attempts have come at various days and times and missing them two out of three times tells me they take off work more than they work. I used to use the Metro Center location, but have to use this one now because it is the only one close enough to my work. Because of the incompetence of this office, I canceled my One Medical membership. Do NOT use One Medical and certainly not the Rosslyn location. All they do is take your membership fee and do NOTHING for you.
