So if you do not know, I love pupusas and when I saw there was a Pupuseria less than 2 miles away I…read moreknew I had to swing by and when I saw no one had reviewed them yet, I knew I had to let you guys know the tea. A Pupusa is an El Salvadorian fried hoe cake basically. It's made with the same masa as a tamale but typically has meats, cheeses, and/or veggies stuffed inside, then grilled on a flat top to perfection. A lot of times, this causes for some of the cheese to ooze out and create an amazing crust. It's becoming more common for pupusas to have chicken and I first checked their menu to make sure this was an option and to my surprise, found out they had them it in someone's review so I definitely knew I was going. I went in and as you can see it's a small door next to a seafood, soul food and barber shop spots. There was one gentleman sitting inside awaiting his food at a table but all other tables were unoccupied. A small location but definitely has seating for at least 50 people. I looked at the menu on the counter and saw chicken as an option and ordered two chicken pupusas. I looked over the menu to see if there was anything else that I wanted to try and since most of it was in Spanish, I couldn't understand all but decided to just stick with those two because three might be too much. As I waited for my food to be done, I looked over the menu from the QR code on the table and noticed that they actually did have horchata and mangonada but decided to just keep it simple and only order the pupusas. I love curtido and have made it before at home however the curtido that came with my pupusas was different. It was more sweet than I had ever had before and I didn't get a lot of the vinegar I've come to enjoy and pair as well I guess the cheese. Y'all should know I'm never trying that orange stuff ever again so I didn't even attempt it to see if my taste buds had changed. I was good. I like that the cheese and chicken pupusa had either squash or sweet potato inside as well. I think that is what those orange pieces were and the pupusa wasn't overcooked. There also wasn't any cheese oozing out this time to make that perfect crust on the outside but that was okay. I love piping hot food so this was definitely speaking to me. It wasn't very flavorful and none of them really are and that was okay. I did appreciate it being freshly prepared I could hear the chef slapping it together before grilling. I would definitely come back here to possibly try some of the other pupusas however since chicken and cheese is my favorite, I'll stick with that. They did have a jalapeno pupusa . . . . I believe that the perfect pupusa would be the jalapeno and chicken together. So maybe that's what I'll try next time. Let me know what you'd try.

La Barrita was an AMAZING experience. The food was sooo good from start to finish. This is a small,…read moreintimate Argentinian spot in Baltimore, and the quality of the food really speaks for itself. We ordered the Fettuccine Con Tuco, made with their house-made pasta and short rib ragu. The short rib was incredibly tender, and they definitely did not skimp on the meat. Every bite was rich and flavorful. We also had the Ojo De Bife (ribeye), and OMG. The steak was succulent, juicy, and cooked perfectly. Exactly how a ribeye should be. Between the fresh pasta and the steak, I honestly don't know which dish I liked more. This is one of those restaurants where I'm already thinking about what I'm ordering when I come back. HIGHLY recommend.

I recently returned to La Barrita to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The bartender, Alec,…read moreremembered us from our previous visit and really made this a special meal for us. We enjoyed the brussels sprouts to start which were a new menu item to us. They were perfectly cooked with a nice amount of crunch and a simple yet flavorful marinade. We then opted for the parrillada for two once again. It came out just as expected with a large house salad, heaping pile of hand cut fries, and a delicious selection of meats. My one complaint is some of the meat was a little undercooked for my preference but luckily, it's enough to share for two so my boyfriend got to enjoy those cuts. For $120, the parrillada for two is a generous serving of food. We had leftovers for days! It went perfectly with a South African red wine from the menu. We finished the meal off with their flan which was absolutely delicious (and came with a birthday candle and was taken off the check as a very generous birthday present!). I highly recommend adding La Barrita to your rotation of special occasion spots. The ambiance might be a little more laidback compared to other steakhouses in the area, but the neighborhood feel only makes the place more special IMO.

Now I am wishing I would have grabbed more stuff to reheat and have the next day and/or gotten there with time to sit and enjoy the food but life, so here we are. Also ordered their fanesca as it is Holy Week... I will update when I warm that up and have it for lunch or dinner. One point on the fanesca they do not serve it with the little empanadas unfortunately or at least not with a to go order. Update: so I did have half of the fanesca for lunch, popped it in the microwave for 2:30 and it was piping hot and delicious! Had the 12 grains, cod, and came with the typical garnishes that I added to the top as I plated it at home. Fanesca!! Really good and with most of the typical garnishes: parsley, cheese, boiled egg, maduro (fried sweet plantain) and avocado. Just missing the small cheese flour empanadas as a garnish, but still amazing flavor! 10/10 The portion is plenty I am having the rest of it for dinner! Definitely give this place a shot if for nothing else the food as a to go option if you don't have the time or patience to look for parking.
